June 2016 OFFICIAL PUBLICATION OF THE FORDS UNLIMITED CAR CLUB 2016 Board of Directors Syl Biermann Bill Bauer Paula Goodrich Dan Kelly Josh Johnson Secretary-Cindy Ahrens Editor Bob Layton or Publishers-Bill & Barb Giese Web Master-Scott Lewis Keirsten McDaniel P.O. Box Ballwin, MO O ur club will be part of a Ford display at Sinclair Ford that will be held on June 18th. Sinclair is our major sponsor and we need as many members rides in attendance as we can get. Club member, Ron Schodroski is our contact with Sinclair and would appreciate the help of our members to fill the lot. The event will benefit The BackStoppers. We will meet at Sinclair after 9 am. We will have more details available at our board and membership meetings this month. This is a club event for points. DAVE SINCLAIR B esides our BOD and membership meetings, we have another busy schedule this month. We start the month with MCSTL show that will be held at the Museum of Transport on the 4th. We will meet at the Des Peres medical complex which will be the first right after you exit Highway 270 to Dougherty Ferry Road. The street name is Highland. There is an Emergency Room sign at the entrance. We will be meeting at 9 am and we will be leaving at 9:15 am. If you prefer, you can go directly to the show. Of course, our Rascals Game fundraiser will be held on the 11th. Club members who plan to drive their cars around the park with the pregame festivities should meet at the Car Shield Field (formally T.R. Hughes Ball Park) parking lot at 5:30 pm. Otherwise, we will meet in the ballpark complex. The stadium is located at 900 T. R. Hughes, O Fallon, MO Game time is 7:05. For tickets, contact Dan Kelly at boardwlkr@aol.com or Our final event for the month will be the Rides for Guides car show that will be held at the Machinist s Hall located at St. Charles Rock Road in Bridgeton. The June 26th show benefits Guide Dogs of America. No caravan for this show as we will meet at the show location. Club member Burt Pennington would appreciate your support. These are all club events for points. Our club was well represented at the Valley of Flowers Parade. Representing our club were Dan Kelly, Jake Turnipseed, Josh Johnson, Jerry Grimmer, John Sullivan and it wouldn t be complete without the Mauzy s Raptor and their bubble machine. We thank those members who showed our club colors.
June 2016 Page 2 O n April 30th, our club headed to Cooper County to tour the Warm Springs Ranch. Warm Springs Ranch is a breeding farm for the Budweiser Clydesdales, resting on 300-plus acres of lush, rolling hills in the heart of Missouri. Established in 2008, it features a mare/ stallion and foaling barn, veterinary lab and 10 pastures, each with a customized, walk-in shelter. The facility is home to more than 70 Clydesdales ranging from foals to stallions. With some rain on the way to the Ranch, the day turned out reasonably dry, although a little cool. After the tour, most of our group headed to Columbia for some much needed lunch. We thank Paula Goodrich for arranging the tour. Photos by various club members
June 2016 Page 3 A lthough somewhat unusual, our club had two events planned on May 7th. Eight of our members headed to Elsberry for the Classics on Wheels car show. The turnout was somewhat smaller this year with 59 entrees. Five of our members did manage to take home a trophy. Members attending were Bill Bauer, John Sullivan, Ken Farrar and Sharon Apollo, Dale Scianko, Brigitte Steavenson, Mark Carey, Bob Layton and a welcome sight, Burt Pennington. As always, it s a nice spring ride in the country. Photos by Dan Kelly and Steve Schneider O ur second event on the 7th was the Valley of Flowers car s h o w h e l d i n Florissant. The show grows each year and had around 200 entries this year. We had a dozen cars in attendance. Showing their cars were Dan Kelly, Jake Turnipseed, Craig and Cally Brayton, Jim and Sharon Richardson, Steve Schneider, Josh Johnson, Steve Hendricks, Dennis and Deb McBee, Jim Gruver, Jerry Grimmer and Mike McCallister. Of our 12 cars entered, 10 of our members took home a trophy. Although the rain arrived later in the day, it held off long enough to have a great day for both of the shows that we attended.
June 2016 Page 4 O n May 21st, our club took another day trip. This time we headed to Fulton Missouri to tour the Auto World Museum and the National Churchill Museum. Mother nature made up for some of our poor weather days that we have had lately with lots of blue sky and very comfortable temps. In about an hour and a half after leaving Lake St. Louis, we arrived at the Auto World Museum. Also known as Backer Auto World, the museum houses a wide variety of automobiles with its nearly 80 vehicles from the Backer Family s larger collection. Not only were the cars interesting, the settings and murals were so authentic for the eras. From there we headed to the Brick District that featured many shops to do some browsing in. Then it was off to lunch at the Post Office Bar & Grill that was located, strangely enough, in the old Fulton Post Office. There, we do what we do best, eat. Our next stop was Westminster College to tour the National Churchill Museum. You could spend a whole day there if you wanted to see all that was available. It covered the history of Winston Churchill from his childhood through two world wars. We also viewed the Christopher Wren-designed Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Aldermanbury. Dating back to the 17th Century, the Church was painstakingly moved, brick by brick, from London to Fulton to the Westminster College campus. The Church now stands exactly as Wren s design envisaged in We finished with the day viewing a portion of the Berlin Wall. Special thanks go out to Debbie Peluso and Syl Biermann for setting up this great day and to Renee Graham from the Fulton Convention and Visitors Bureau for her help and to Jim Biermann who successfully guided our caravan.

June 2016 Page 6 O ur club again participated in a big way in support of the Salute to the Troops car show that was held at the VFW hall in O Fallon, Missouri on May 22nd. The beautiful day brought out 86 cars and our club had 25 of them. The show was chaired by Lynette and Scott Lewis. The show profits will benefit veterans. Our club did well with the 5 classes available. Burt Pennington won 3rd place, Jake Turnipseed took 1st place, Mike McCallister took 2nd place and Scott Lewis took Best of Show. Other members entering cars were Lynette Lewis, Mark Carey, John Sullivan, Tracy Meier, Craig Brayton, Josh Johnson (2 cars), Syl Biermann, Terry Koch, Jim Biermann, Dan Kelly, Paula Goodrich, Bart McNail, Brian and Donna Berger, Ken Farrar and Sharon Apollo, Dave Bauer, Bill Bauer, Dale Sciranko, John and Ramona Bonness, and Bob Layton. Also helping out that day were Kenny and Gwen Simms, Mark Carey, and Bart McNail.
June 2016 Page 7 T his month we welcome and welcome back 4 members. First, Harvey Hahn has joined. Harvey drives a 1979 Ranchero. Harvey and Eileen live in St. Louis. Rejoining is Mark Bay. Mark resides in Black Jack. Also rejoining are Rich and Tim Mitchell. Rich drives a 1990 Mustang GT convertible and Tim drive a 1966 Mustang. The Mitchells live in St. Charles. Welcome to all. C ar Show shirts. We will be ordering our car show shirts soon. The cost will be $10 for those who order in advance and $12 day of the show. XX and larger sizes are a little more. If you want to be assured of getting a shirt, contact Cindy Ahrens or Jim Biermann. Thanks to the hard and ongoing work of Ron Schodroski, we have again attained Dave Sinclair Ford to be our major sponsor again this year. They have been an important part of our show for many years. Just remember, when looking for a new or used car, please keep the Sinclair dealership first on your shopping list. Our members will be able to use the X plan for a better deal on your new Ford. Please see Ron Schodroski for more information. L isted below are the points standing as of the May 22nd Salute to the troops car show. The points for selling class sponsorships have not been added yet. 1. Bob Layton Jim Biermann Ken Farrar Mark Carey Jake Turnipseed Sharon Apollo-180 Mike McCallister Cindy Ahrens-165 Bill Bufka Bart McNail John Sullivan Bill Giese-135 Speaking of our car show, if you have not collected sponsorship money, you will need to do this before the show. It s difficult to collect after the show is over. Thanks go out to Sinclair Ford who purchased 25 tickets to our BackStoppers Rascals fundraiser. We will need our members to get their ticket money turned in soon. Our board of directors is in the process of forming a committee to get nominations for our 2017 BOD. This is the time to step up and add your ideas to the mix. If you are unhappy with the club policies, events or whatever, this is the time for action. You will serve a two year term, but you will also receive help from our veteran directors. We are up to about 70 members cars on our members rides section of our website. If you want to add you car or truck or replace your photo because you have made changes such as wheels etc., just submit a photo by or mail if necessary to mickie6t6@netzero.com or mail to our club address posted on the front of our newsletters. Remember, only hood down photos will be excepted. Please try to have the whole car in the photo. We have had some photos turned in with the top, bottom or sides cut off. Our winner for May was Rich Sutorius who took home an additional $50.
