For a change of pace this year, we will have a Route 66 tour and end up at a location for a dinner buffet. This year, the event will be held on Sunday, October 19th. We took this tour four years ago and it s worth repeating. We will be meeting at the commuter parking lot located at the intersection of I-44 and Hwy 141. Since there are no facilities at that location be advised that you will need to grab breakfast and fill your tank elsewhere before arriving. Our schedule is; 1. Meet at the commuter parking lot at Hwy 141 and 9:30 am, leave 9:45 am. 2. Travel to exit 266, Lewis Road, tour the route W e will be taking nominations for new officers for the upcoming year at our meeting this month. Current members, Syl Biermann, Jack Greiwe and Dan Kelly will finish their term on December 31st. Members Paula Goodrich and Rich Sutorius will serve another year. The new board members will serve a two year term. We would like to have at least 66 museum. Leave the 10:45am. (15 minutes drive time to the museum and 45 minutes at the museum.) 3. Drive on old route 66 for approximately one hour, and break for 20 minutes for gas and restrooms. Leave this 12:05 pm 4. Drive on old route 66 to Cuba MO and visit the Crawford County History Museum, the Cuba Fest, and view the Murals in downtown Cuba. Leave the 1:50 pm and arrive at Bob's Gasoline 2:00 pm. We do need a headcount for the dinner. There will be a sign up sheet at this month s meeting or contact Syl Biermann if you plan to attend. The dinner cost is $11 per person and you must pay in advance. four members run for the three openings. This is not a difficult job and you won t be asked to do anything that you are not comfortable with. All nominations must be in by October with the election held in November. Leadership is essential for the success of our club.

2 T his is your second notice on dues. Dues are $20 per year and $10 for a second member with the same address and $5 for a third with only one newsletter per household. Please make your check out to Fords Unlimited and mail to Fords Unlimited, P.O. Box , Ballwin, Missouri You can also pay your dues at any meeting. See Cindy. W e will start selling chances for our club quilt at our meeting this month. You will be able to purchase chances until our December meeting. We will draw the winning ticket at that night. You do not have to be present to win. The profit from the raffle will be applied to our toy drive fund. Sandy Carey did the work on this and will be handling the chances that will cost $1.00 W a piece. There are eight car show shirts from various years wrapped around our club logo. The back is also all Ford. Club members, Duck and Brigitte Steavenson of our club are working this show. For those wanting to caravan as a group, we will be meeting at the Burger King in St. Peters located at the Mid-Rivers Drive exit and the North Service Road. We will be meeting at 7:45 am and leaving at 8 am SHARP!!! Come early if you plan to eat breakfast there. Breakfast is also available at the show. If you want to meet at the show, take I-70 West to exit 220 (between St. Peters and O'Fallon) Hwy. 79 North. Travel 28 miles to the heart of Elsberry. Turn left at the four-way, travel West on Hwy B, Broadway 4 blocks and the park is on the left. Show people will guide you in from the four-way. Park then register. This a club event for points. e have s t a r t e d our annual toy drive. Get into the holiday spirit by donating one or two unwrapped toys that will be donated to the Marines Toys for Tots campaign. If it would be easier, we will accept cash donations and do some serious Christmas shopping. We would like to have all donations in place by the December meeting at the latest as the Marines will want their donations in early December so they can get the toys distributed. All of the clubs half of the s from our membership meetings will be donated to our toy drive through December. Please contact Cindy Ahrens or Jim Biermann to make a cash or toy donation.

3 Burt Pennington Lynette Lewis F or what has become the norm this year, the Troy First Baptist Car Show had threatening weather. This kept the attendance down but it stayed dry all day. There were still plenty of nice entries to view. Our club had thirteen cars and trucks at the show and managed to take home the club participation trophy. 4 O n September 7th, our club participated in the 18th annual Wheels in Motion Day held at Westport Plaza. The event is really not a car show but more of a display that benefits children in their fight against cancer. All entry proceeds and the funds collected from the 50-50, raffles, and concessions go to The National Children s Cancer Society. The day is a cooperative event of several St. Louis area car clubs. Fords were a big part of the event as our friends from the Show-Me Mustang Club and the Mustang Club of St. Louis were also in attendance. Our club donated $200 from our treasury to the charity. Other than the kids who benefit, there are no show winners or losers that day but Dan Kelly did win a $50 gift certificate and Josh Johnson won a set of floor mats and some car cleaning products in the raffles. The show attendance was down a little, including our club, but we did enter fourteen cars and trucks on that beautiful falllike day. Bob & Donna Layton Beside U-turns, the one thing that we do well is eat and this event was no exception. Around noon, many of us headed to Patrick s for a great lunch and spirits.

6 Submitted by Jack Greiwe 1. Turn off engine. 2. Don t smoke. 3. Don t use your cell phone-leave it inside the vehicle or turn it off. 4. Don t re-enter your vehicle during fueling. Bob Renkes of the Petroleum Equipment Institute is working on a campaign to try to make people aware of fires as a result of static electricity at gas pumps. His company has researched 150 cases of these fires. His results were very surprising. 1. Out of 150 cases, almost all of the were women. 2. Almost all cases involved the person getting back in their vehicle while the muzzle was still pumping gas. When finished, they went back to pull the nozzle out and the fire started, as a result of static. 3. Most had on rubber-soled shoes. 4. Most men never get back in their vehicle until completely finished. This is why they are seldom involved in these types of fires. 5. Don t EVER use cell phones when pumping gas. 6. It is the vapors that come out of the gas that cause the fire, when connected with static charges. 7. There were 29 fires where the vehicle was reentered and the muzzle was touched during refueling from a variety of makes and models. Some resulted in extensive damage to the vehicle, to the station, and to the customer. 8. Seventeen fires occurred before, during or immediately after the gas cap was removed and before fueling began. Mr. Rankes stresses to NEVER get back into your vehicle while filling it with gas. If you absolutely have to get in your vehicle while the gas is pumping, make sure that you get out, close the door, TOUCHING THE METAL, before you ever pull the nozzle out. This way the static from your body will be discharged before you ever remove the nozzle. A new event for our club this year will be the EPC Classic Carfest that will be held on October 11th. Many of our members have attended this show for years and now it will be a club event for points. Also this year, we will act as judges. As we would like to park together, we will be meeting at the strip mall that is past EPC and will be leaving there at 8:30am. EPC is located at 3941 Truman Boulevard. ( ) Take I-70 to the Cave Springs exit and turn right. EPC will be to your left. There will be a judges meeting around 10am so if you are going to judge, arrive before that time. T hanks go out to Bill and Barb Giese for bailing out your editor who had the wrong meeting date on the mailed newsletter. They made the correction on the cover page. To keep things in suspense, we will not list the points leaders for the remainder of the year. The winners will be announced at our Awards Banquet that will be held on January 24th. We have received a thank you letter from The BackStoppers for our recent donation of $1,000. Our classified and events page will be dropped in the December newsletter. We will start anew in January. This show draws over 800 entries. Scott also won the Special Interest trophy at the Troy First Baptist Show with this 1971 Mustang. Our winner for September was your editor. The $38 was donated to our toy drive.

7 O n a recent trip to Florida, Board of Directors member Dan Kelly toured the Don Garlits Museum. Dan shared his adventure with a slide show at our September membership meeting. For those who missed this, Dan supplied a few photos to share. Seventy four to be exact. Here is a sampling. Reprinted from HotRod.com-submitted by Bill Bufka W hat we do know is that the 2015 Saleen 302 Mustang will sport a new front fascia that gives the car a wider, meaner look and puts it in line with the rest of the pony cars on the market by using a fullwidth grille that s not interrupted by any body colored bits between the headlights. No doubt it was influenced by the 69 Boss 302, and that s alright by us. By the looks of the rendering, the Saleen package will include a new hood with a wide, shallow scoop that continues the lines from the Mustang s factory hood bulge. Also in store is a lowered, track-focused suspension and, if Saleen s history with tuning Mustangs is any indicator, at least 450hp. Ford has already told us that the new 5.0L for the 2015 Mustang GT is much better than the already impressive 5.0L we all love, so our hopes are high. Expect supercharged versions as well.
