Our 2011 year ended at a very good place. Our membership was at a high point, our car show was a success, we were financially solid and were in the hands of great leadership. JANUARY. As we do each year, we start off with our Awards Banquet. Our points winners were announced and Bart McNail was the recipient of the Neal Ketchum Memorial Award for coming in 1st place. Other winners listed from 2nd to 10th place included Bob Layton, Jim Biermann, Ron Schodroski, Jeff Hohl, Bill Bufka, Ken Farrar, Jack Greiwe, Ken Farrar, Jim Kinzel, Dale Wojtkowski, and Terry Koch. The new board of directors was introduced that included Syl Biermann, Mark Carey, Bill Giese, Trenton Kreder, and Kenny Simms. FEBRUARY. The board of directors was busy planning club events for the upcoming year. Our late winter tour was a trip to Gateway Classic Cars followed by a trip to Ravanelli s for a great lunch. However, the day featured a mixture of light rain and a few snow flakes. MARCH. On a cold and rainy night, our month started with a vigorous night of Demo Ball in St. Charles followed by a pizza buffet. This is always a fun event but some of us came home with various bruises. APRIL. On the third, we attended the Museum of Transport Car Show. This was an all Ford display with no trophies. We had a great turnout for this event and were blessed with unusually warm spring temps. This was also the start of our new website, thanks to club member, Scott Lewis. Dale Wojtkowski was thanked for his work on our first website. MAY. A first time event for our club was the ShelbyFest held in Hermann Missouri. The following weekend we made our annual cruise to Elsberry Missouri for the 11th annual Classics on Wheels Car Show. The Show-Me Mustang Club held their Ford Fest at Pundmann Ford in St. Charles. Unfortunately, Mother Nature did not cooperate as it was an all day rain. JUNE. We started the month with a trip to Grand Prix Karting in Boschertown, Missouri and were awed by the antics of Spinout Bufka and Crash Sutorius. With the drizzle fading, we then headed to JJ s restaurant in St. Charles to be part of their monthly cruise. The Mustang Club of St. Louis Car Show was held on the 18th. The weather was threatening but it stayed nice but the attendance was down due to the forecast. We did manage to win the club participation award but donated the $50 back to their club to be donated to The Back- Stoppers. On the last weekend of the month, we were part of a Classic Cars and Warbirds, a car display that was held at Smartt Field in St. Charles and was sponsored by the Commemorative Air Force. JULY. Our Blue Cruise, sponsored by our club and the Show-Me Mustang Club was held on the 9th. Although the turnout was somewhat smaller that the previous year, the participants were quite generous and we were able to donate over $2,500 to The BackStoppers. Our busy month continued on the following weekend with a trip to Alton Illinois for the Southern Illinois Mustang Association's all Ford Car Show. As usual, it was HOT and we did not draw enough member cars to win the club participation. On the 30th, we held our pre-car show BBQ. That night we stuffed goody bags and then stuffed ourselves with hamburgers and hot dogs. We also pre-registered our cars and set show assignments. The 31st. was the 25th anniversary of our annual car show. Each year, our Muscle Mustang classes expand and this year was no exception. With the expansion of those classes, we moved the FTA classes up to the hill and all

went very well. It was not our largest show, but with the excessive heat, we were well pleased with the 229 entries. We also jobbed out snow cones this year and this proved to be financially successful. Show chairman, Jim Biermann and his crew did their usual outstanding job and the concessions were handled in their usual professional manner by Mark and Angie Lazzareschi. AUGUST. Things always slow down for our club in August as we always need a break after our car show. The only car show event planned was trip to Sullivan Missouri for the St. Anthony s Route 66 car show. We enjoy the show but the highlight of the day is the roast beef and chicken dinners that are served. SEPTEMBER. Things got busier again as several events were planned. Another first time event was the Troy First Baptist Car Show. This is a free event with few trophies but was is a big draw as there were 243 cars in attendance. Our club did manage to take home the club participation award which was a cooler stuffed with many goodies which will were used at our awards banquet. The following weekend, we attended the Wheels in Motion Day at Westport Plaza which is a car display to benefit the National Children s Cancer Society and is sponsored by several local car clubs. All of the profits go to this worthy organization and our club donated another $100 from our treasury. The third weekend had us attending the Show-Me Mustang s annual car show held at Crestwood Court in Crestwood. Our attending members were able to take home the $50 club participation money on a day that proved to be a rainy day. This month we started raising funds for our toy drive to benefit the Marines Toys for Tots campaign. For the rest of the year, the club s half of the membership meetings s will be donated to this fund and our members will also donate toys and cash. OCTOBER. One of our most popular events of the year is our annual Fall Color Tour. This year, we viewed the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers from the banks on both sides. From there we headed north to Pere Marquette State Park for our good old fashion pig-out. As usual, our members outdid themselves with the side dishes and desserts and the grilled pork and chicken provided by our club. We thank Syl Biermann for the planning of this event. This is also nomination month for our club. With the November board of director elections coming up, this is an important time for our club. We were continuing to collect funds for our toy drive. With this economy, this event is more important than usual. NOVEMBER. This month was the celebration of the 25th anniversary of our club s founding. We worked all year trying to come up with something special to do on that important day and always seemed to draw a blank. Someone suggested that we head over to Collinsville for another great meal at Ravanelli s which we did preceded by a visit to Cahokia Mounds. The visit and meal were great but were outdone by our tour of beautiful downtown Washington Park and Caseyville on our way to the Mounds. Exotic sights such as Pinks and Dolly s Playhouse were viewed as car doors were locked securely. Later in the month, we held our board of directors elections. We had three members running for the two open positions. With our 2012 board set, we were ready for another successful year. DECEMBER. With the holidays coming up, December is a slow month for our club but we finish the year on a high note with our toy drive for needy kids. A week before Christmas, club members met at the South County K-Mart to shop for toys. On the 17th, we were able to donate $1, to the Marines Toys for Tots. It had been announced earlier in the fall that McDonnell Park, along with other county parks, would be closing, leaving us nowhere to have our car show. Fortunately, that did not happen and we were back in business for our 26th annual car show. Another successful year was in the books.

O n December 17th, members of our club gathered at the South County K-Mart to purchase toys for our annual toy drive. Between our generous members, 4 months of the clubs half of the 50-50, a donation from our treasury, a donation from the St. Peters Lions Club, and donated toys, we were able to give the Marines Corp Reserves $1, worth of toys. We were helped by an employee discount of 10% and a generous donation of $100 from K-Mart. This year, the toys were picked up by the Marines at the store. It was truly a good feeling way to go into the holiday season. Thanks go out to all who helped and to our chairpersons, Cindy Ahrens and Jim Biermann.

New member, Jason Peters submitted his Galaxie to be featured this month. Jason is our long distant member who resides in Kansas City. I purchased the my 1969 Galaxie 500 in 2004 after seeing it listed in the St. Louis Post Dispatch in the classified ads. I had been searching for some time and being a tall guy, knew I wanted something large and comfortable. Growing up in a GM family, I ended up switching over to Fords after falling head over heals for a new Crown Victoria. I had always been around vintage cars. First, my uncle with his 1948 Packard and mid-seventies Lincoln Town Cars, then my dad had a 1972 Chevelle. What can I say, it was contagious. I called the guy up, set a time to go look at it, take it for a drive, kick the tires. It was love at first turn! The size, the feel, and especially the style of the car appealed to me like no other. I also liked that Galaxie's seem to be almost non-existent. Most people remember them but you hardly ever see one at shows and especially not on the road. We made the deal and I drove her home a week later, after making room for it. The seller's uncle purchased it new from Dave Sinclair Ford in July of After a few years, be became ill and was no longer able to drive and shortly after, passed away. His aunt continued to drive the car for a couple of years until she too was no longer able to drive. At that time, she parked the car, outdoors, where it sat for several years until she too passed away. At the time, he was looking for a daily driver for work so he purchased the car from the estate, performed the required repairs and had a below average re-paint done in an awful shade of green. I think the years of sitting outside had not been kind but fortunately it was nearly rust free. What it lacked for in options, it more than made up for in potential. I loved that it was simple with few options. All of this, combined with a low, 41,600 miles on the odometer... made me feel as though I had something special. It left the factory in Black Jade with a black vinyl top, the Rim Blow steering wheel, white wall tires, full wheel covers and the barrel with singe exhaust. I knew right away that someday I would return it to how it looked on that July day in 1969 when it was brought home from the dealer. R&A Motorsports, a Mustang and Shelby restoration shop in Lee's Summit, MO performed nearly all of the work knowing it was going to be a challenge. They definitely weren't used to working on a car this large! Nearly eight years later, it was completed in the fall of 2011 and once again looks like new with a whopping 43,700 miles on it! I definitely purchased it to drive and show, so every beautiful day we have I try to get it out for a spin, besides... it helps keep my mind off what the final bill came to! 6 Club member, Rich Sutorius recently made an interesting trip and submitted this info. C arolyn and I went out to Miller Motorsports Park last week to attend our Boss Drivers school and it was a blast! There were nine boss 302's there, all stock except for a roll cage and some of the electronics were disconnected. The morning was spent in the class room and doing practice in the skid car, heel and toeing and then cornering practice. The afternoon was spent in "our" car doing practice following an instructor, then with an instructor in our car and finally just free to do hot laps as fast as we felt comfortable. I don't have any idea how fast we were going but I'm going to guess about 120 mph on the straights. Finally we went out with an instructor driving at race speeds. It was very kuhl! At the end of it they gave everybody a certificate and a trophy made up of a Boss piston and rod. Miller has a museum that has maybe 40 cars in it but what cars they are. There is one of every generation Ford GT40 including the Mk III (of which there were 6 built) the Mk II that finished second at Lemans and the Mk IV that won Sebring. There was an original Cobra Daytona coupe as well as a bunch of Cobra, Trans-Am cars and Shelby GT350's. The best part is that all we had to pay for was airfare and hotel! L isted on the next page are the revised points rules for For you newer members, this is a great time to get started. For the most part, you just need to be active to attain points that will accumulate at the end of the year. Even you can t do enough events or needed items to finish in first place, you may be able to place in the top ten places that we will award at the 2013 Awards Banquet. Remember, board of directors members are not allowed to compete.

The points competition was started many years ago to encourage our members to be more active and to award those who were. The Points rules and prizes are determined by the board of directors and the revised rules and prize list is usually ready for distribution by February. Board members will keep extra copies of the rules to give to new members as they come into the club during the year. The board with adjust the rules and prizes as needed. If our car show is successful, we will add gift certificates for the top ten finishers. This is in addition to the prizes listed for the top five finishers. The extra certificates are decided on later in the year, after the guidelines have already been distributed, depending on the financial success of our car show. One board member will be put in charge of the points. He or she will supply the book and distribute it at all board and general meetings. It will also be available at all club events. If the board member cannot be at an event, he or she will find a replacement who will be in attendance. New member sponsorship will be added each month. Car show sponsorship will not be added until all of the classes are sold. It saves confusion that way. Extra points can be given by the board for extra efforts by members. Each month, the person in charge of the points competition will supply the names of the leader and the points totals to the newsletter editor for publication. That way the members can keep track of where they are in the standings. Board members are not eligible. Unfortunately, it is the job of the board members to be at events and do much of the work needed. It would be unfair to the membership if the board members were eligible. All of the awards will be given at the Awards Banquet that is held in January. The 2012 points rules and prizes are listed below. Members are only allowed to win first place two years in a row. If a member comes in first place for the third year in a row, he or she will be named Points Winner Emeritus and will be awarded $50 in cash and have his or her dues paid for the following year. A. Attend monthly general membership meetings. B. Attend board of director meetings (non board member). C. Vehicle activity. Attend designated club activity (car show, car cruise, etc). D. Attend designated car show, car cruise etc without show vehicle. E. Member activity. (Awards Banquet, club picnic, color tour, etc). F. Recruit new member. G. Sponsor show class 15 points per class sponsored. H. Attain major sponsor for the car show. I. Organize club event. (late winter tour, banquet, Demo Ball, ballgame etc). J. Submit article for our newsletter. (article must be used in newsletter). K. Treasurer, secretary, newsletter editor, newsletter publisher, car show chair man, webmaster and outgoing board members. Points competition prizes 1st place. $50 cash, plaque and following years dues paid. (Total value over $120). 2nd place. Club shirt, certificate and following years dues paid. 3rd place. Club shirt and certificate. 4th place. Club shirt and certificate. 5th place. Club shirt and certificate. Points 15 each 10 each 20 each 10 each 10 each 10 each 15 each each person* 5 each 30 1st.-10 each additional *20 points if only one person organizes an event. If our car show is successful, more prizes may be added.

Info from KSDK, Channel 5 U. S. Army Captain Chris Nordin is stationed at Jefferson Barracks. His son, Jeramie, was paralyzed over the summer after a car accident in Texas. Since then, everyday tasks like getting around town have become difficult. Thanks to "Winning Technologies" and "Carson Natural Bridge Automotive," the family now has a van with wheelchair access. The two companies partnered to repair and modify the van. Last month, they donated it to Captain Nordin and his family. "Just knowing that people who barely know you will reach out and help tells you a lot about the people in this area. They really care," said Capt. Nordin. The owner of "Winning Technologies" said the van donation was the least he could do to assist soldiers who give so much of themselves. (Winning Technologies is our club s web provider). T his month we welcome three new members. Joining members include Jerry Grimmer who lives in Bridgeton and drives a 1989 Mustang LX convertible. Our second new member is Dan Kelly. Dan lives in Florissant and drives a 1988 Mustang LX convertible. Last but not least is new member is Paula Goodrich who owns a 2003 Mustang GT and a 2012 Shelby GT 500. All three members were sponsored by Rich Sutorius. Also joining was Lonnie Waller. Lonnie owns a 1968 Mustang coupe and resides in Warrenton. Welcome to all of our new members! A s most of you probably have heard, the St. County Parks will not be closing down any parks, including McDonnell park so all is back to normal for our car show. Thank goodness!!! The old Chuck-A-Burger facility in St. Charles has reopened as Reynolds Roadhouse. Our last of the year was won by Gary Burch. Gary s winning of $27 was then donated to our toy drive. Thanks Gary!
