Ramblings 1-3 BOD Minutes 3-5 Press Release... 5 Wagons 5 WD 40 6 Classifieds 7 Miscellaneous Ramblings - Joe Podsybochem 1- Membership Meeting the October BOD/Meeting was well attended with discussions on the results of the NSSCC Autobahn South event and the up coming 2009 race schedule. Items for the members to consider: a) are you going to attend the NSSC Awards Banquet on Saturday 11/15 at the Fishermen s Inn in Elburn (on the west side of Batavia)? Great food, great location and great company! b) - are you coming to the November meeting to discuss and vote on the clubs selection of race venues for 2009? The Council schedule offering should be finalized with the clubs selecting their venues at the December Council BOD meeting. If you have any thoughts or opinions on which race(s) the club should select for next year this is your chance to be heard. The tentative race dates as of early October were: Blackhawk April 18/19, May 23/24, July 18/19, August 8/9, September 19/20, October 24/25; Autobahn June 6/7, October 3/4; Road America July 25/26, August 22/23; Milwaukee Mile in discussion. c) are you planning to attend the November BOD meeting at which time club officers for 2009 will be nominated? Here is your chance to either volunteer your help or one of your friends help for the club. d) are you planning to come to the December BOD meeting so that you can vote for the clubs officers for 2009? All of these are the major decisions that will affect the club for Your presents are requested. 2- Autobahn South the event was well attended, the weather cooperated and, thanks to a safe race without any track damage, the club did realize a small profit, which will be used to assist with the Awards Banquet costs. Thanks to the many club members that helped out for the two-day event. A good time was had by all as indicated by the following note to Lynn from Rick Mastro: Thanks for your help. The boys had a BLAST directing the cars around in the grid! They don't ever get to tell adults what to do! They loved the up close contact with the racecars and the drivers. Phil was wonderful and patient showing them what to do and what to check for and he appreciated their energy running from spot to spot to get the cars in position. We had a great time and appreciate the opportunity to help and have fun! If you didn t have a chance to have the fun staffing the race, we can correct that next year. With the SCCA Run Offs coming to RA next year all race events will probably be well book by racers wishing to get some experience at the track. With this in mind we are again publishing the AmericInn s early room request. While this form does not guarantee you a room it does get you on the request list. 7- Council 2008 Awards Banquet The date is January 17 th and the place is the Cliffbreakers Suites and Conference Center in (Continued on page 3) 2

3 (Continued from page 2) Rockford. The dinner reservation and room forms are on the Council web site. Rooms are limited so make your reservations early. It would be nice, and very interesting to the members, to hear your stories, adventures and experiences from the 2008 race year whether they are from a racers perspective or a workers perspective. Don t be bashful, write them up and if you need some help let us know, we would be happy to do so. After all, this is your newsletter. NSSCC Home of the NSSCC Saturday Night Get Together NSSCC Board of Directors Meeting September 2008 The meeting was called to order by Serra at 7pm. Members Present Serra, Lagessie, Bralich, Dudek, Kollock, Legare, Marquardt, Mazzeo, Minor, Olsen R., Olsen R., Palmer, Saccameno, Wheeler, Wilbert, Porcelli, Murphy, Rodgers, Mikucki & Skweres Last month s minutes were approved. M&2 Murphy & Marquardt Serra reported that although the final figures are not yet in for ACCS NorthSub should have made money from the event. Stay tuned. The NorthSub booth at the MC 50 th Anniversary looked great. Thanks go out to Ross Fosbender, Matt Lagessie, John Salisbury, and Dan Daley for their assistance. The board is looking for someone to create a 50 th anniversary logo for the club for LeGare offered to put something together. No treasurer s report. Serra noted that Durbin should contact Bill Lymon regarding the sponsorship for ACCS. Steward s report was given by Saccameno. Points of interest were: Should both ACC dates next year be run on the South track? MC may still get 2 dates from Milwaukee Mile. Minor waivers are done. Please see the full report from the MC BOD on the MCSCC website. Rich Olsen and James Mikucki will write articles for the next Rod Knock. Our Membership Chairperson for 2009 is Jim Kane. Jim and his wife Barbara joined NorthSub after the last Indoor Racing School and have been active race staff this year. A hearty Thank You goes out to Lynn Waldman for all her hard work over the last few years. Saccameno gave a report on the Focus & Change Committee s actions/purpose. A lively discussion followed. Minor suggested that the meetings minutes be published in the Rod Knock. Nominations closed on the NSSCC Special Awards. The bylaws are done and have been reviewed by Logan and will also be reviewed by Jim Kane. The final product will be up for a vote at next month s BOD meeting. The NSSCC annual awards banquet will be November 15 th. Teresa Larsen is working feverishly on the event. M&2 Saccameno & Marquardt to donate 2K to off set the cost of the banquet for the attendees. We want a more casual dinner. We are looking for assistance in securing raffle prices. Rodgers offered to donate 3 DVDs. Please contact Serra with any donations. Lagessie reported that he received no requests for a mentor during the last month. He is still looking for help to fine tune the program and put in some workflows. No report from Toma on the website. 3 The tentative race dates for 2009 are out. There was a lively discussion about how many events, if any, that NSSCC should sponsor in light of the amount of volunteer work it entails. At next month s BOD the board will make decisions on race dates. There will be an Indoor School at ACC again next March.

6 WD-40 "I had a neighbor who had bought a new pickup. I got up very early one Sunday morning and saw that someone had spray painted red all around the sides of this beige truck (for some unknown reason). I went over, woke him up, and told him the bad news. He was very upset and was trying to figure out what to do. Probably nothing until Monday morning, since nothing was open. Another neighbor came out and told him to get hi WD- 40 and clean it off. It removed the unwanted paint beautifully and did not harm his paint job that was on the truck. I was impressed! WD-40-- who knew? Water Displacement #40. The product began from a search for a rust preventative solvent and degreaser to protect missile parts. WD-40 was created in 1953 by three technicians at the San Diego Rocket Chemical Company. Its name comes from the project that was to find a 'water displacement' compound. They were successful with the fortieth formulation; thus WD-40. The Corvair Company bought it in bulk to protect their atlas missile parts. Ken East (one of the original founders) says there is nothing in WD-40 that would hurt you...'it is made from fish oil.' When you read the 'shower door part, try it. It's the first thing that has ever cleaned that spotty shower door. If yours is plastic, it works just as well as glass. Then try it on your stovetop. It is now shinier than it has ever been before. 1) Protects silver from tarnishing. 2) Removes road tar and grime from cars. 3) Cleans and lubricates guitar strings. 4) Gives floors that "just-waxed" sheen without making it slippery. 5) Keeps flies off cows! 6) Restores and cleans chalkboards. 7) Removes lipstick stains. 8) Loosens stubborn zippers. 9) Untangles jewelry chains. 10) Removes stains from stainless steel sinks. 11) Removes dirt and grime from the barbecue grill. 12) Keeps ceramic/terra cotta garden pots from oxidizing. 13) Removes tomato stains from clothing. 14) Keeps glass shower doors free of water spots. 15) Camouflages scratches in ceramic and marble floors. 16) Keeps scissors working smoothly. 17) Lubricates noisy door hinges on vehicles and doors in homes. 18) It removes black scuffmarks from the kitchen floor! Open some windows if you have a lot of marks. 19) Bug guts will eat away the finish on your car. Spray a LITTLE on live bait or lures and you will be catching the big one in no time. 40) Fire ant bites. It takes the sting away immediately and stops the itch. 41) WD-40 is great for removing crayon from walls. Spray on the mark and wipe with a clean rag. 42) If you ve washed and dried a tube of lipstick with a load of laundry, saturate the lipstick spots with WD-40 and re-wash. Presto! Lipstick is gone! 43) If you spray WD-40 on the distributor cap, it will displace the moisture and allow the car to start. Keep a can of WD-40 in your kitchen cabinet over the stove. It is good for oven burns or any other type of burn. It takes the burned feeling away and heals with NO scarring. Remember, the basic ingredient is FISH OIL! 6
