Many members enjoyed Ritzy s excellent food while other just partook from their large desert selection. In addition to the members usual conversation and exchange of ideas/comments we also had the pleasure of two speakers. The first speaker was Rob Lindgren of the Prairie Hills Motorsport Club (phmc). The phmc is the group that is building a new country club racetrack in Northern Indianan. The nearly six mile long track is being constructed on 872 acres, which are located approximately four miles west of Interstate 65 and twenty miles south of Interstate 80. It is a membership club with pre-construction memberships available at a discounted price. Information on the track can be viewed at the phmc website and Rob can be reached at ph (219) or lindgren@prairiehillsmc.com. As a side note, this maybe a very entertaining area for the track since it is very close to Roselawn, Indiana, the home of the Naked City Nudist Camp of 70 s and 80 s infamy. It is many years since I have traveled that area but it use to be a wellknown lunch stop for truckers that enjoyed the Camps home cooking in their restaurant while well-endowed waitresses were serving them. The second speaker was NSSCC member Paul Musschoot, the new owner of Blackhawk Farms Raceway. Paul spoke about the acquisition of the racetrack, his evaluation of its present status and needs and his immediate and long-term plans for its future and improvement. Paul is accomplishing repairs to the racing surface as needed for the completion of this seasons events and is planning the construction of new offices and registration facilities. In addition new washroom and shower facilities will be constructed which was a big crowd pleaser with the membership. We wish Paul well with his new venture and many years of good racing for and with NSSCC. 2- The next membership meeting, on Thursday the 18 th, will again be held at the Ritzy s Café and Backerei, 2765 Algonquin Road, Rolling Meadows. Ritzy s is an easy off-n-on from Rte.53/I The Board of Directors meeting will be held at 7:00 pm and followed by the members meeting at 7:45 pm. Our Meeting Chairman, Dave Bralich, has two very interesting speakers lined up for the meeting, one is a founding member of Midwestern Council and the other is a founding member of North Suburban. Both will speak to our clubs history and our racing heritage. All members are encouraged to attend the members meeting and also the BOD meeting if they so wish. 3- The annual NSSCC Awards Banquet is scheduled for November 10 th. It was a safe weekend with only some only sheet metal and egos hurt. The Saturday night BBQ and Fried Chicken dinner, plus a few adult beverages, plus the comradely and conversation was enjoyed by those that attended it. It was also an opportunity to help Gary Weis, our W2W Competition Director and Club Stewart, to celebrate his birthday. We wish you many more Gary. On Saturday there was a total of 188 cars attending and on Sunday the total was 145 cars attending. Our Race Chairman, Robert Dudek sends the following message to all members that helped to put on the event: I would like to extend, to all those members that provided their assistance at our Road America event, North Suburban s appreciation for your help to put on the typical great event that N.S. is noted for. Many would say that this was not possible. While many others would ask why? Please note that it did not even take a whole roll of racers tape Road America Season it was noted while at Road American that the AmericInn Motel in Plymouth is taking sign ups for the 2008 races at RA. They are compiling a first come first served list of people that would like to reserve rooms for all of the events at RA. A copy of the request form is published in this newsletter. It should be noted that the AmericInn is a small very nice motel, thirty rooms, and that the motel management will assign confirmed reservations when the 2008 RA racing schedule is published. You can complete the form and send it to the motel. On the Form Number line just entry NSSCC and you can call the motel manager, Mr. Kaushik Patel, for further information. VINTAGE RACING Dave Wilbert - Vintage Member At Large It has been three years since the big wreck at Road America. Since then, most Vintage racing organizations have been enforcing era correct rules and regulations. I myself spent two years putting my car back to period correct. Many of the rules I agree with 100% and some rules that I consider safety issues, I don t. I do support car minimum weight and motors meeting bore and stroke specifications. The interesting thing I found on the engine dyno, was no matter how I played with the rules as far as the motor components, with a spec dual plane manifold I was only able to produce 540-horse power and a maximum of 7000 RPM. All said and done, with a legal motor, legal brakes, legal rims and tires I can still turn the same times I did with If you are planning on attending any of the RA events and the AmericInn is fully subscribed to you may also want to try the Baymont Inn or the 52 Stafford Inn, both very nice motels and in Plymouth. 8- The Weather - If you think that we had a lot of rain in August take a look at the picture from Mid-Ohio s turn 11. Some disadvantages are that original brakes are only good for one race while Willwood brakes would last the entire season. An M22 transmission is good for about two races and a T101A has lasted me three seasons with no problems. With most organizations that have catastrophic events they seem to go from one end of the spectrum to the other with no compromise in between. Midwestern Council s Vintage program concentrates more on safety for the driver and the rules are mostly policed within the group. Out of all the groups I ve raced with, Midwestern Council is superior with teaching cars and personal gear. (M & 2 Boldt & Dudek) Stewarts Report John Boldt 1- The 08 racing schedule is being worked on with a look at the Michigan tracks now that the I-80/94 construction is completed. 2- The track damage insurance policy has a zero deductible except for damage to track vehicles for which it is $ 1, We should expect an increase in Council dues next year since Councils per member expenses are outstripping its income. 4- Nominations are still open for Special Awards until mid-november. Keep you recommendation short and either or fax it to Sue Boldt. 5- The Council has over 6000 photos on it from events. 6- Council is looking to update and improve it s website. 7- The Council awards banquet will be held on January 26 th at the Clock Tower Inn in Rockford. A special room rate has been negotiated with the Inn for Council members. Let them know that you are with Council when you make your reservation. 8- A head for HSAX Tech and a compiler of HSAX Points are still needed. Here is a chance for an HSAX member to help the group and pass his knowledge on. 9- Thee was no Race Staff report. 10- The Rule-A-Thon was held on August 25 th at Blackhawk Farms. Piquet, one of just three Brazilians to win the Formula One world championship, lost his license in June after receiving a slew of speeding and parking tickets. His wife, Viviane, also had her license taken away for bad driving and joined her husband in the mandatory driver awareness course. "I think we have to pay for our mistakes," Piquet, 54, told local news agency G1. "It's not even just a speeding problem. I got tickets for all kinds of reasons, for things like parking where I shouldn't." Piquet and his wife, whose 21-year-old son is an up-andcoming test car driver for the Renault Formula One team, will have to attend 30 hours of classes over eight days and pass an exam before regaining their licenses.
