Glatton Mini Olympics 2012 - Results Wow! What a fantastic weekend of major sporting events for Britain.

1 Glatton Mini Olympics Results Wow! What a fantastic weekend of major sporting events for Britain. Firstly there was the Italian Grand Prix, won by Lewis Hamilton (a Brit), followed by the closing ceremony of the overwhelming and awe-inspiring Paralympics (held in Britain), and finally the Grand Slam in America, won by Andy Murray (a Brit). But against this backdrop of successful events there was one extra outstanding sporting achievement that the BBC and Channel 4 forgot to televise the Glatton Mini-Olympics Held annually on the village airfield, this has become a major event in the lives of the residents of our small village, and this year was no exception. High on the adrenalin, created by the somewhat larger sister event held in London and other parts of the UK, the attendance at this year s sports day exceeded all expectations. We were joined by members of the local aviation club who brought their fixed wing aircraft along for all to admire on the ground, and with the promise of flights around the local area, should the weather be suitable Biggles coming in to land The event was organised by the Glatton Village Hall Committee and was run, as usual, as a family day out with bring your own picnic and plenty of energy. The racing events got underway at 3 o clock, with the egg and spoon for the under 10 s being the first on the agenda. With their little hearts pounding and their legs going ten to the dozen, it was amazing to see the sheer concentration on their faces in trying to make sure the egg didn t come off the spoon. To a rapturous applause, little Ruth came home first followed by Shaynee and Polly. Paul giving encouragement at the starting line (or is it tips on how to cheat!)

This was a best out of three, with the team captained by Helen Ford being the overall winners with a convincing 2 out of 3 wins This would be much easier if the folks on the other end would just let go of this rope With all events now at a close, the medal awarding ceremony got under way under the watchful and caring eyes of Roy and Audrey, two of Glattons oldest residents and pillars of the community. The real winners of the day The main prize, an aerial photograph of the lucky winners house, was won by Steve Smith, who lives only a stones throw away from the airfield. As there were family friends from Darlington at the event, Mel (the pilot) was grateful that he only had to fly 400 metres and not 400 miles to take the photo. Our intrepid photographer looking for his next victim to shoot Getting Caroline to sing proved to be the best way to get rid of everyone The day s events closed with a thank-you to all that had attended and mention that the next village hall event is going to be a Halloween Themed Quiz, in the village hall, on October 27 th starting at 7.30pm. Teams of 6 adults will compete for the first prize of 200 with other prizes available on the night. The cost is 7.50 per adult (children free) and a finger buffet will be provided. Author- Bob Widd
