3 Preamble European Universities Championships badminton that will take place in Nancy is fully in the development of this discipline in France will be the year of the WBF World Championships organization in Paris on August. University Sport wish to join in this event by providing, with all partners the 7th European Universities Championship. Based on the experience gained during the organization of the French University Championship on April 2005 in the same gymnasium where we received 24 teams and around 300 French students, we pledge to make every effort to provide each delegation very high quality benefits. 3

4 1 General organization 1.1 Organizing committee The organizing committee will be composed of communities that have welcomed the project with enthusiasm and local representatives from the French Federation of Badminton. The President of the Comité Régional du Sport Universitaire, Professor Etienne Criqui, will be chairman of the organizing committee. Universities will join the event, particularly the University Henri Poincaré of Nancy, ones of whom are students of the industry "Sports Management" of the Faculty of Sport. 1.2 Budget The Local Organizing Committee has estimated the budget for the event at 150,000. We are expecting responses from the different structures contacted for accommodation and catering. With a flat rate per person of 45, the specification will be fully implemented (shuttle, hotels, restaurants, cultural activities). 2 Program We propose to organize the competition from the 21st to the 25th of June The delegations would be arriving 2 days before on Saturday 19th and leave between the 26th the 27th of June Detailed program The program would be: 14/15 June: Arrival of delegations June 16: Opening Ceremony - Competitions June 17: Competitions June 18: Competitions June 20: Competitions 21 June: Competition - Closing Ceremony 22/23 June: Departure of delegations 4

5 3 Competition format 3.1 Gymnasium The Palais des sports de Nancy Vandoeuvre managed by the Communauté Urbaine du Grand Nancy is pre-booked. A warm-up room is adjacent to the competition s room. This equipment was totally renovated during 2006 and is now set with stands on each side of the game. No more light from outside enters the room. This infrastructure in which 2 professional teams (volleyball female and handball male) play during the sports season, can accommodate 2000 people seated and has modern rooms and annexes that offer a guarantee of success in the organization, on an administrative and medical point of view. This venue of the competition where we are able to install seven carpets will receive: 16 teams for the team competition 64 girls and 64 boys for simple tables 32 pairs for each double tables 3.2 Accommodation For the accommodation and catering, we are studying 2 solutions: The first is related to the Social Services of the University (student). The second, more costly but closer, are the nearest Accor Group s hostels. Officials of the EUSA will be housed in a 3 star hotel close to the place of competition. Shuttles will also be scheduled between the places of accommodation and competition. It will allow each delegation to adapt their movement to the constraints of the competition. An evening gala will be held on Friday evening on the Place Stanislas in Nancy in partnership with the municipality. 4 Teams support 4.1 Language English and French are the official languages of the championship and each delegation will be accompanied during his stay by a volunteer student interpreter who will relay the information perfectly. 5

6 4.2 Transportation Each delegation will be taking over from 2 places: Nancy train station located in the heart of the city and 1h30 from Paris Est (Gare de Paris) Louvigny Airport (located 45 minutes from Nancy) Shuttles will be available to all delegations who will formally demand.
