1 IPPL FEVER! One has heard of cricket fever and hay fever. But for the first time, we had IPPL fever all across India! Over 150 plumbing professionals were exposed to modern plumbing codes and modern plumbing products now available in India. One of the aims of IPA is the dissemination of technical information relating to plumbing. This is regularly done to its members through the hosting of half day and full day seminars by the various Chapters and National IPC conferences. The audience for these events is mainly IPA members. The problem was how does IPA convince or encourage plumbing engineers to become IPA members? What value addition could IPA give to potential members? And, of course, how to make the whole exercise a no-loss event - in spite of the fact that participants paid only a fraction of the actual IPA membership fees? The concept of IPPL was well covered in May 2017 issue of IPT. It is the experience of the three chapters - Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai that we wish to share in this report - it would hopefully encourage other chapters who may wish to conduct this exciting and highly rewarding scheme called IPPL. Some of the difficulties experienced by the Chapters in organizing this event were: The logistics of fixing a date & time (every week) when majority of the committee members could meet to discuss details Keeping track of which committee member was following up with which developer (for sending a team) and which manufacturer for sponsorship Making updated excel sheets every few days giving details of confirmed and potential participants and sponsors Sending s to concerned people (about 500 s must have been send by a Chapter in the span of a month!) Registering relevant details of each participant Allocating a date and time for each sponsor to make the presentation Keeping track of confirmations Organizing the venue, food, experts to disseminate the knowledge about the UIPC-I codes MUMBAI CHAPTER Mumbai Chapter s IPPL was spread over 4 Saturdays - the 1 st day being July 15. On the 1 st day itself, it became evident that the participants were all highly qualified and experienced engineers. The questions they asked the manufacturers were very specific on technical details. It was for the first time that a large number of non- IPA members had got exposed to the UIPC-I and other codes developed jointly by IPA and IAPMO (India). The participants were exposed to concepts like back flow prevention, indirect traps, trap seals, principles of venting and plumbing terminology from UIPC-I. They were even exposed to subjects like hot water systems, rain water harvesting and waste water. The important parameters of WEP-I were explained. The activities of IPA and IAPMO (India) were also presented. During the three days of IPPL at Mumbai (July 15, July 22 and July 29) the following sponsors had made their presentations: 32

Corporation SEW Engineering [India] Tata Housing Developers Tata Projects Wadhwa Group Overall, it has been a very satisfying experience for IPA Mumbai Chapter as the feedback from both participants and sponsors was fantastic - participants were exposed to UIPC-I, became Life members of IPA and the sponsors interacted with a highly experienced group of plumbing engineers! Everyone also appreciated the choice of venue and facilities. It looked as if the hundreds of man hours spent by IPA MC Committee members were well spent! Amish Mehta was the Convener of IPPL, Mumbai and the members involved in planning IPPL were: (1) Sharat V Rao (2) Sudhir Shah (3) A V Hindocha (4) Haresh Ajmera (5) Sandeep Mendiratta (6) Asit Adalja. During the actual presentations, support was also received from Bharat Sanghavi, Vikas Shah and Kishore Merchant. The UIPC-I codes and other presentations were conducted by Sharat Rao and Asit Adalja. Mr. Dinesh Shah came especially from Pune to conduct the presentation on Hot Water Systems. IPA Mumbai Chapter was fortunate to have National President Mr. Gurmit Singh to give the welcome address on 15 th July. Also present was Mr. Praveen Bora, Chairman - IPA Pune Chapter. 3 Mr. Sharat Rao conducting UIPC-I awareness program Participants CHENNAI CHAPTER IPPL was a grand success at Chennai. There was tremendous and active interaction amongst the IPACC Team and the participants. In Chennai 19 teams participated. Sessions were conducted on July 15 th, 22 nd, 29 th and 5 th Aug The participants were from varied professions: architectural, developers, plumbing consultants, contractors, manufacturers and distributors. The whole event was possible solely due to the enthusiastic support of the 13 sponsors. Out of the 13 sponsors, 12 of these sponsors were kind enough to sponsor the IPPL events even at Bangalore and Mumbai. Chennai chapter had 4 sessions spread over a month. The syllabus was provided by IPA, HO and there were even 13 sponsorial presentations. Chennai Chapter also showed a video of Sangeeta Vyas on the truth of open defecation. This was an eye opener to many. Chennai Chapter has also completed the qualify round. The quiz was held over one day on 19 th August which reduced the successful teams from 19 to 13 in 1 st round, from 13 to 8 in 2 nd round and from 8 to 4 in the final round. The first two qualifying rounds was a written quiz of 30 minutes and 45 minutes. The final round was an open book quiz over 90 minutes. It was an incredible experience for the Committee members, the participants and even the sponsors. Prizes were announced for the three best teams from Chennai chapter. During the awareness sessions, the sponsors presented their products and explained technical points to the participants. Model quiz questions had been prepared and a mock up test was conducted by Dr. S. Virapan and Mr. Sivaprakash during the awareness sessions. The selection the four best teams from Chennai was done at Rani Meyyammai Towers. The National Anthem was followed by a welcome address by Chapter Chairman Mr. Abbas Lehry and Dr S. Virapan. Other committee members also greeted the participants with greetings and issued T-shirts to all the IPPL participants. The Event Managing Team welcomed the members and explained the quiz program. Past Chairman and Quiz leader Dr S Virapan had also gave a motivational speech to the participants. Mr Sivaprakash wished all the participations to get succeed in elimination round. Sponsors banners displayed in the IPPL program hall, and the event was attended by 19 teams. The elimination rounds/process conducted as mentioned below: Elimination round 1: 13 teams selected out of 19 teams Elimination round 2: 8 teams selected out of 13 teams Elimination round 3: 4 teams selected out of 8 teams and these 4 teams will go for Pre-finals The successful four teams were: 1. The final round of IPPL Chennai chapter will be held on September 9 th 2017 at Hotel Crowne Plaza, Chennai. BANGALORE CHAPTER IPPL Quiz at Bangalore started with a great bang with a total of 21 sponsors with 21 teams representing consultants, builders, contractors, manufacturers, dealers etc. The sponsors and teams are given below. The exposure to the Plumbing Codes covered all the major aspects of plumbing. This program was carried out over 5 weekends and was a full day program. The technical sessions were covered by the industry experts like Mr. Arun Shenoy (Coron India), Mr. Murali (Muralishesh Engineers), Mr. Dasha Murthy (Grundfos), Ms. Manjula (Adhithi ), Mr. HR Ranganath (Maple ), Mr. Kumar B (Shriya ), Mr. Prasanna Venkatesh (Sobha Group), 36

The first qualifier round of quiz was held on 26 th August A copy of UIPC-I, WEP-I code, GPC code and a T shirt with the IPA, IPPL and sponsors logos was also distributed to each participant. The next qualifying rounds and finals for Bangalore will be held on subsequent weekends. ipt Even though one of the aims of IPA is dissemination of technical information, the simultaneous exposure of over 150 professionals in the cities of Mumbai, Chennai & Bangalore was a new and exciting landmark for IPA. 38
