Image was taken last Friday, 30th October so progress is continuing ABOVE LEFT: The building going up at Bava Mini Stadium With less than 50 days to the go the Local Organising Committee are working around the clock as the date for the FIFA U -20 Women s World Cup nears. 4pm on Friday, 23rd September marked 50 days to go before the first match kick-off at the Sir John Guise Stadium between Sweden and Korea DPR. The two mini stadiums that are being built have made progress in the last couple of weeks since the 50 days countdown. LOC chief executive officer, Seamus Marten said a lot has been happening behind the scenes since the 100 days countdown leading up to the 50 days countdown. The infrastructure development led by the Government s sporting agency, National Sports Foundation has picked up ABOVE RIGHT: The seats and grass at the PNG Football Stadium with PNG Football Stadium taking shape. The stands and seats have already been put in while the two storey building to house the team s change rooms and VIP rooms is going up. We have been advised that work on the Bava Park is in progress and it will be ready for the tournament. Seats have already been placed at the PNG Football stadium with grass already growing. Grass at the Bava park has been planted and the buildings are already taking shape and we re excited, he said. 2 NEWS Telikom comes onboard as National Supporter Telikom PNG have been announced as National Supporters of the FIFA U-20 Women s World Cup, which will be held this coming November and December. As a National Supporter of the competition, Telikom PNG builds on its strong foundations of supporting football in Papua New Guinea, having actively supported the country s national football league since its inception in Telikom PNG will provide facilities and support to FIFA for the broadcasting of the competition, which will see the FIFA U-20 Women s World Cup reach over 200 million people around the world. The company will also provide phone lines and internet services for the four stadiums hosting matches throughout the three-week tournament. Following the announcement, Papua New Guinea Football Association President David Chung highlighted that the inclusion of the two nationally owned companies as National Supporters for the FIFA U-20 Women s World Cup was a boost to the tournament. He said: Their partnership with FIFA and the Local Organising Committee will bring some local flavour to the tournament and create a buzz around this great event which Papua New Guineans are following closely. There was also the official announcement of Air Niugini as the first nationally owned company to come on board as a National Supporter of the FIFA U-20 Women s World Cup. Air Niugini plays a crucial role in Papua New Guinea s economy and provides vital air transport services for local communities and the tourist industry. The airline operates a domestic network from Port Moresby and Lae, in addition to international services covering Australia, Oceania and Asia. As a National Supporter of the FIFA U-20 Women s World Cup, Air Niugini will provide in-kind assistance comprising air travel discounts and other promotional activities. During the Team workshop, the winner s trophy was also revealed by the Sports Minister Justin Tkatchenko. He said awareness of the tournament is also being carried out with Susa participating in the Independence celebrations at the Paga Ringroad. Susa will be making a number of visits to schools and the communities in the lead up to the tournament. The ticketing team has commenced the sale of the Corporate Box packages and there has been overwhelming support from the business community resulting in all the Corporate Box packages being sold out. Online accreditation for everyone participating in the tournament is also now open. Both the international and local media have until October 7th to have themselves accredited while the registration deadline for the whole workforce is October 28. The online accreditation or registration is for the workforce that have an operational role to play during the tournament. Those eligible to apply for the online accreditation are our partner agencies, venue owners, service providers and the general workforce, Seamus said. With less than 50 days to go, the different functional areas of the LOC have continued to ensure that their operational areas are ready before November 13. 2

3 Awareness of the U20WWC gears up Awareness about the FIFA U-20 Women s World Cup is gaining momentum with the residents of Port Moresby. Awareness about the tournament is being carried out with the tournament mascot Susa making appearances around the city. During the Independence celebrations, Susa made an appearance at the Paga Ringroad meeting and greeting city residents. Last week, Susa was at the Vision City mall with the staff of the LOC to hand out pamphlets and information about the tournament. Susa also showed up at the Koki Market where she met and greeted the locals there. Susa has become a hit with the children who are very eager to have their pictures taken with her. Susa will be making a number of visits to schools and the community in the lead up to the tournament. NEWS Corporate Boxes & Ultimate Ticket Packages go on sale LOC CEO Seamus Marten with POMCCI CEO, David Conn. POMCCI is assisting LOC in spreading the word about the corporate box to the business community in Port Moresby. The residents of Koki were overjoyed to have the U-20 Women s World Cup mascot, Susa visit them over the weekend. Pictured is Susa with the locals at Koki Market ABOVE: Susa with the women and children at the Koki Market The upcoming FIFA U-20 Women s World Cup Papua New Guinea 2016 officially started the sale of its Corporate boxes to both the private and public sector on 19 th September. The Corporate boxes will be available at the Sir John Guise Stadium and the National Football stadium only. The prices for the Corporate boxes are in ascending order from the Group Matches to the Final. There are packages on sale starting with the Ultimate package that went on sale along with the Corporate boxes. This package will allow the ticket holder VIP parking, designated prime seating, food & beverage and selected Tournament merchandise. The Ultimate package is priced at K10,000 per package. CEO of the Local Organising Committee, Seamus Marten, said that by having the tickets go on sale early, the private and public sector have ample time to purchase and plan their corporate hospitality for their clients or for their staff. The Corporate boxes at both the Sir John Guise Stadium and the NFS are very well set up and gives the opportunity to companies to entertain their guests while watching double header matches. Our Ultimate Package gives great value to senior management and boards to utilise amongst themselves since it s transferable. There are limited boxes and packages available so we urge all the Corporates and Public sector to book their spaces now. More limited packages as well as tickets were released to the Public and Private sector on October 1 while the public will have the greatest opportunity to purchase packages and tickets come November 1 when sales will be open to all. The FIFA U-20 Women s World Cup Papua New Guinea 2016 kicks off on November 13 and ends on December 3. 3

4 NEWS Workforce Accreditation goes live online Accreditation for the FIFA U-20 Women s World Cup is now open for the workforce. The online accreditation or registration is for workforce that have an operational role to play during the tournament. Those eligible to apply for the online accreditation are our partner agencies, venue owners, service providers and the general workforce. Those who will be working at the stadiums with LOC to run the tournament will have to register online and be accredited with passes to allow them to move around within the venues. During the tournament, the stadiums will be zoned and accreditation will be issued to the workforce according to their operational areas. There will be nine zones, Broadcast, Competition, VIP, Public, Media Tribune, Operations, Media Centre, Field of Play and Hospitality, During the tournament, FIFA s strict requirement of having accreditation passes will be policed by the security team. Accreditation deadline for the general workforce is October 28, all partners and stakeholders are urged to apply for their accreditation before the deadline. John Loien Security Japan has always been my favourite country. Looking back at history, they have risen above all odds after the World War. Despite the setbacks, Japanese people have challenged themselves to work hard and to rebuild their country. These efforts has seen Japan become a member country of the United Nations in 1956, and consequently the second largest economic power of the world in In sports, Japan has become the first country in the Asian Continent to host the Summer Olympics in These events have inspired Japan to seriously partake in sporting activities which saw the Japanese team become part of the world of football. This year will be Japan s 5 th appearance in the FIFA U-20 Women s World Cup. After failing to qualify for Canada in 2014 and positioned on the 9 th spot in the all-time ranking of FIFA U- 20 women world cups, Japan bounced back in style to win the AFC U-19 women s championships in Again the tri-nations friendly recently held in PNG between US/JPN and PNG has seen Japan too strong and powerful when they won all their matches. Therefore, the current build-up has put Japan in a more comfortable position with a great chance of winning the FIFA U-20 Women s World Cup Papua New Guinea Lorraine Vagi CCW I m really not a soccer follower, but I am going to be supporting all the teams and EVEN the referees because this is a Women s tournament and all the officials are women. It s all about empowering women.
