1 September 2015 ATV Maine News Alliance for Trail Vehicles of Maine Maine All-Terrain Trail System I N S I D E T H I S I S S U E : ATV Maine signs and renews their Motorsports Commercial General Liability policy, making liability coverage available from September 3, 2015 to September 3, 2016 to our affiliated ATV club members. Marking Trails for Difficulty 3 Irving Woodlands Recognized ATV Clubs Touch-A-Truck 6 ATV Maine Affiliated Members 8 Message Board 9 ATV Club Business Members Landowner Appreciation Clean Up Remember, all activities and/or events are expected to be chemical-free 4 19 ATV Maine offers a Motorsports Commercial General Liability (CGL) policy, covering ATV Maine member clubs activities/events and includes Bodily Injury to Participants - also known as Participant Legal Liability coverage - with a requirement being a program in place to obtain Release and Waiver of Liability forms dated and signed by all participants. More landowners are requesting ATV clubs to provide proof of insurance to have trails on their property. Landowners are automatically included as an additional insured within ATV Maine s policy. If a landowner requests a Certificate of Insurance as an additional insured, we can certainly do this. Clubs will receive a letter of explanation from ATV Maine of their coverage. ATV Maine recognizes there are other options for insurance but we remind our members this policy is not an event-only liability policy, this is an annual Motorsports Commercial General Liability policy and covers more than one event a year. This policy is in compliance with the Irving Woodlands LLC contract, such that an event-only policy would not be allowed. We are also within the expectations of the Division of Parks and Public Lands requirements with respect to grant reimbursement for a Motorsports Commercial General Liability (CGL) policy. Hosting an ATV Maine meeting ATV Maine pays the hosting ATV club $200 Clubs usually try to get a local town building at no cost to hold the meeting.

2 P a g e 2 Pine Grove Program is having their free annual ATV ride on September 20th with Moose Alley Riders; starting at Pine Grove Lodge and ride to Breezy Acres Camps in Solon for lunch, and then back to Pine Grove Lodge again for dinner. Any veteran that would like a ride with someone can sign up and we'll match him or her with a volunteer driver. We also have veterans with their own machine ride along with us. Hosting an ATV Maine meeting ATV Maine pays the hosting ATV club $200 Clubs usually try to get a local town building at no cost to hold the meeting. Average number of people to expect is 55 Morning snacks and/or drinks are optional. Club provides lunch typically the food is prepared by the members of the hosting club. Hosting club provides door prizes, a 50-50, and sells club items if desired. Provide ATV Maine with directions to the meeting location and accommodations in the area at least one month prior to the meeting.

Things have improved with trail numbers and maps; still, trail difficulty is not known or marked anywhere on a trail sign, with few exceptions. Like ATV trails, ski trails are also a combination of things. Would trail difficulty markers make any difference to ATVing? It would to a reasonably new rider; to an experienced rider, it might not. To any rider, it would be a piece of quick information to help with the decision concerning difficulty, along with the easiest or fastest route of travel. Especially at the end of a long day of riding and a tired rider wants to get safely back to their starting point. Marking Trails for Levels of Difficulty By Terry Sinclair The current effort to make sure all ATV trails have assigned trail numbers, with destination information, is a great step forward in improving how to get there from here. Could the adding of a trail difficulty marker be the logical next step? I do like the safety aspect of the idea. All ATV ers are required to follow a trail. Most do not review a topographical map before their ride. Maybe someone has been on that trail previously remembering whether it had sections that were difficult. When unfamiliar with a trail, any information one can gather ahead of time will make that days ride more enjoyable. For all who use Maine s recreational trails, this would be good customer service and help ensure return visits. Please remember to tread lightly, respect all landowners, and ride with safety in mind! 5 P a g e 5 Pot-Of-Gold Bombardier Pot-of-Gold Bombardier (BRP) will donate $50 to a club at every scheduled meeting. The club will be chosen through a drawing during the scheduled meeting All clubs in good standing are eligible for the drawing. A Director, Alternate Director, or primary member from a club in good standing must be present in order for the club to win the monies in the pot. The membership will be verified by the business manager prior to issuing the winnings. If no member of the club is present, then the $50 will be rolled over to the next scheduled meeting and another $50 will be added to the amount. The pot will continue to grow until a winner is drawn and then the pot will start over again at $50 Maximum payout is $ The club s name that is drawn will be posted on the website.
