It features our new tennis and basketball courts, a shelter house, restrooms, a beautiful walk-up water fountain (in memory of Sylvester Skoch), and plenty of open space for kids to run.. 5 With the forms set, the cables are ready to be set in place. Now that the cables are in place, the concrete is ready to be poured. Here you can see the concrete being placed with the laser screed. Because of the size of the pad, the concrete had to be pumped in from overhead Court Features & Installation Process The City of Seneca received a grant from the STEP Foundation in 2012 to build new tennis courts. Construction on the new tennis courts began October of 2013 and finished up in November of The courts are located at Skoch Park, just east of the Aquatic Center. The contractor for the project was Mid-American Courtworks, out of Wichita. The courts are 121 ft. x 108 ft. and have a post-tensioned concrete base. The courts feature two (2) full-sized tennis courts, an 8 ft. x 16 ft. fiberglass hitting wall, and two (2) basketball goals that are adjustable from 10 ft. down to 6 ft. The process began with Mark Feldkamp stripping the top-soil and grading the dirt to the desired slope. Mid-American Courtworks came in next to set the forms and place the cables (3 ft. spacing, running both directions). With the forms and cables set, the crew installed the 4-1/2 in. thick concrete pad. The concrete had to be pumped in and was placed with a laser screed. With the concrete finished, a hydro-cure curing compound was applied to the surface to help reduce cracking. The crew had to let the concrete cure for 30 days before applying the acrylic color system. There was still work to be done in the meantime such as, applying stress to each cable over the next couple days (puts stress on concrete to reduce cracking) and installing the 10 ft. high fencing. The crew was graced with a couple nice days in mid November and applied the blue and green color system, painted the tennis & basketball lines, put up the hitting wall, and installed the basketball goals along with the tennis nets. The courts are now open to the public. Winter Directory (785)
