Sat. 2/24 Sun. 2/25 Sonoma State (0-5) 2:40 PM ET Series: IU, 5-0 #10 UC Davis (10-6) 8:00 PM ET Series: UCD, 5-4 WEEKEND PREVIEW The Hoosiers have set the stage for a big weekend in the Bay Area with a four-game slate at the Santa Clara Invitational. Following a two week stretch of training and recovery in the home pool, Indiana will meet a quartet of California programs at Sullivan Aquatic Center. That s headlined by a ranked showdown with UC Davis, their ninth top- 25 opponent of the year, on Saturday night. Although the weekend will be tough, the Hoosiers hope for a friendly crowd in Santa Clara as three players, including scoring leader Jennifer Beadle (15), make a homecoming return to the San Francisco Bay. These games are Indiana s last before kicking off the CWPA schedule next weekend. LAST ACTION: TRITON INVITE Indiana makes their first pool return in two weeks, having most recently competed at UC San Diego in the Triton Invitational. Their first game of the slate, a rematch with the hosting Tritons, delivered on the promise of a hard-fought contest but the Hoosiers fell in overtime, 9-8. Indiana finished the weekend with split results, going 2-2 with wins on each day. In their Triton Invite finale, against No. 11 Long Beach State, Jennifer Beadle found a hat trick in the first six minutes of the game to spark an 11-7 win over the 49ers. NEW YEAR, NEW PLAYMAKERS One of the takeaways from the Triton Invite was the effort Indiana saw from their freshman class in a hostile road environment. Juli Hilovsky tossed two assists, a career high, in IU s overtime contest with the Tritons before breaking that mark with three later that day against Iona. Jessica Rodriguez scored a careerhigh two goals versus the Gaels, along with one assist, and set another career mark with three assists against Long Beach State. Indiana s four-woman freshman class accounts for 18 goals, 16 assists, and 10 steals through their first 11 games of the year. SATURDAY SPLASH WITH AGGIES Indiana s lone top-20 battle of the weekend takes place on Saturday night, when they face No. 10 UC Davis for the first time since The Hoosiers hold a narrow 5-4 lead in the series and have won three of the last five meetings, but the Aggies took the most recent meeting with a 9-5 win. Saturday s game will be just their fourth against one another in a neutral pool. at Santa Clara (4-5) 12:20 PM ET Series: IU, 8-2 HOOSIER POLO NOTES CSU Monterey Bay (0-7) 5:0 PM ET Series: IU, 4-0 LEADING FROM THE FRONT The senior class is driving Indiana s success in the pool this season. Jennifer Beadle and Kelly Matthews are making plays on the offensive end and share the top spot on Indiana s goal leaderboard, scoring 15 apiece with six combined hat tricks. Sarah Myers is patrolling the defensive end, recording six games with more than one steal and a career-high six against McKendree earlier this season. Hoosier senior Jessica Gaudreault is holding the line between the pipes in her final season with the IU cap. She has 84 saves and four games with 10-plus blocks this season, rising to third on Indiana s all-time saves leaderboard (781). HOOSIERS BACK IN THE BAY This weekend is a special occasion for three Hoosiers, who return to play in front of friends and family in close proximity to their hometowns. Jennifer Beadle (Pleasanton) and Mackenzie Rosenthal (Saratoga) make their final career homecoming appearances, while Carlie Crumbaugh (Moraga) makes her first collegiate visit since joining the Hoosiers this year. Additionally, Sunday s game with CSU Monterey Bay will reunite the Hoosiers with current CSUMB head coach Emily Schmit (Indiana, 2001). Schmit, an Oakland native, won two letters as part of Indiana s inaugural water polo team. OF NOTE... Seniors Sarah Myers (94) and Sarah Young (89) are close to becoming the next Hoosiers to cross the 100- goal career milestone. Kelly Matthews (222) is two goals away from tying Krista Peterson (224, ) for the fourth-highest goal tally in program history.

3 Ryan Castle begins his second season as Indiana s head coach in the academic year. The Hoosiers underwent a transformational season in Ryan Castle s first year with the program. Not only did Indiana begin a season with a new head coach for the first time in 17 seasons; they had to do it with four players joining the team after the midway semester break. But Castle looked to his junior class a group including five players with two full years in the main rotation and a group of talented new additions to guide his first year as a collegiate head coach. The results speak for themselves. Castle s Hoosiers posted a record with 10 wins over nationally-ranked programs, and at one point uncorked a 12-game winning streak. That run began with a stunning upset in the opening weekend, an 8-5 win over No. 6 Hawaii marking Indiana s first win over the Wahine since 201. Castle saw two players Kelly Matthews and Mollie Williams receive ACWPC All- American honorable mention recognition and spots on the All-CWPA team. Nine of Castle s student-athletes collected academic honors from the CWPA, ACWPC, and Big Ten Conference. Sarah Myers and Sarah Young also received accolades as Big Ten Distinguished Scholars. Indiana University Vice President and Director of Athletics Fred Glass announced the hiring of Ryan Castle as the new head coach of the Indiana water polo program on Friday, July 15, Castle s experience includes a series of high-profile assistant coaching positions at the collegiate level, along with assistant and head coaching experience on the international stage. HEAD COACH RYAN CASTLE FIRST YEAR AT INDIANA THE CASTLE FILE - NCAA - Indiana University Head Coach (2017-pres.) University of Hawaii Associate Head Coach ( ) University of Michigan Assistant Coach (201-14) Hartwick College Assistant Coach ( ) Arizona State University Assistant Coach ( ) - International - Kazakhstan Senior Women s National Team - Head Coach New Zealand Video Analyst South Africa Senior Women s National Team - Assistant Coach Women s National B Team - Head Coach Women s Junior National Team - Head Coach United States Olympic Development Program - U-18 Zone Head Coach Castle comes to Indiana with nine years of collegiate coaching experience in NCAA Division-I water polo. Serving as the associate head coach for the University of Hawai i for the past two seasons, Castle helped guide the Rainbow Warriors to the 2015 Big West Tournament Championship and an appearance in the 2015 NCAA Championship. Castle served as an interim head coach during the 2016 season, and in that time Hawai i earned a 1-4 record with five wins over top 10 teams and two of those coming against No. 4 California. After a comprehensive national search, we are thrilled to have Ryan Castle as the new leader of Indiana water polo, Glass said. Ryan has a terrific record of player and team development at both the collegiate and international levels, is a tireless recruiter, a noted tactician and a person who values the tenets of the Spirit of Indiana. We are excited to have Ryan at IU. Castle accrued four years of experience in the CWPA prior to his tenure in Manoa, working with the University of Michigan from and, prior to that, a three-year stint as an assistant at Hartwick College. Before entering the CWPA, Castle found similar success during his time at Arizona State ( ), highlighted by the 2008 season, where the Sun Devils achieved their highest national ranking (#4) and their highest single-season win total (21) in program history. I would like to thank Indiana University and Director of Athletics Fred Glass for the opportunity to lead the Indiana water polo program, Castle said. I view Indiana as one of the top programs in the country and I am excited to get started and continue to push IU towards the top. And the 24 Sports, 1 Team mantra is one that I could not be happier to embrace and enhance as we move forward. Outside of the collegiate ranks, Castle has honed his craft with international teams, both at the junior and senior levels. Most recently, Castle held the reigns as the head coach of the Kazakhstan Women s Senior National Team, where he guided Kazakhstan to an appearance at the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China. Kazakhstan s 1th-place finish at the event was the fourth- highest in the country s history. During Castle s tenure, Kazakhstan was ranked as high as 10th in the world. Before Kazakhstan, Castle served as the Video Analyst for the New Zealand senior team at the 2009 FINA World Championships. From 2007 to 2009, Castle worked in the US Olympic Development Program by running one of the United States under-18 zone teams. Castle had the opportunity to coach for his home nation of South Africa from 2002 to 2005, and again in 2011, where he assisted with the Women s Senior National Team and served as head coach for the National B Team. In 200, Castle took charge of the South African Women s Junior National Team and assisted with the Men s Junior Team. A native of Cape Town, South Africa, Castle graduated from the University of Cape Town in 2001 with a bachelor s degree in information systems and earned a postgraduate credential in education in 200.
