ACU has lost six straight games against the Red Raiders with the Wildcats last win in the series coming on April 20, 1976, when ACU beat Tech, 4-3, in Abilene.... ACU s last win in Lubbock was on April 29, 1967, when Bill Gilbreth fired a no-hitter against the Red Raiders in a 1-0 win.... The last time ACU and Texas Tech m et on the baseball field was on March 11, 2014, with the Red Raiders taking a weather-shortened 6-2 win over the Wildcats.... Texas Tech scored five runs in the first inning en route to the win, which was stopped after the top of the seventh inning because of a severe wind / dust storm that blew into Lubbock, leaving players and umpires alike blinded by the blowing dust. Freshman third baseman Brandon Grudzielanek has taken over the lead in hitting in the Southland Conference as he carries a.400 batting average into Tuesday s game at Texas Tech.... Grudzielanek who moved to third base after former starter Kyle Giusti was injured in ACU s 6-1 win over Texas College on March 25 is hitting.455 (10 for 22) with one run scored and five RBI in the six games since he took over for Giusti.... Grudzielanek is 38 for 95 (.400) with a team-leading 22 RBI on the season, but, amazingly, has just one extra-base hit on the season: a double in Saturday s 5-4 loss to Lamar.... However, he s also drawn seven walks and has a sparkling.429 on-base percentage in the cleanup spot in the Wildcats lineup. Senior catcher Seth Spivey has seen his average fall from a season-high.600 on March 1 down to.387 entering Tuesday night s game.... That average, however, is still good enough for second in the Southland Conference.... Spivey is fourth in the league in runs scored (29), first in triples (three) and second in total bases (65). ACU continues to lead the Southland in hitting with a.301 team batting average, but is 13th in pitching (5.34 ERA) and last (14th place) in defense (.952 fielding percentage).... ACU has been uncharacteristically poor defensively in 2014 with 50 errors in just 28 games. In 17 years at the helm of ACU baseball, he took the Wildcats from a middle-of-the-road into a perennial contender for conference, regional and national titles at the NCAA division II level. Now in his 18th season as the helm of the program, he s charged with leading the Wildcats into a new era at the NCAA Division I level. Before Bonneau joined the ACU baseball program, the Wildcats had won one conference championship and had never made an NCAA post-season appearance in more than 30 years. Since his arrival as an assistant coach in 1996, ACU fielded one of the most successful baseball programs in NCAA Division II. Bonneau who became the Wildcats head coach at the age of 26 in 1997 has led ACU to new heights in his 17 seasons as head coach. From , the Wildcats captured eight LSC South Division titles ( , , 2007, 2009 and 2010), two regular season championships (2008 and 2010) and five LSC Post-Season Tournament titles ( , 2009, and 2010). Bonneau s teams were also invited to nine of the last 13 NCAA Division II South Central region tournaments. The 2003 Wildcats won the regional title for the first time in school history, enabling ACU to make its first appearance in the NCAA Division II College World Series. All of the Wildcats success has helped make Bonneau the winningest coach in school history with a record of His 671 wins left ACU as one of the winningest baseball programs in NCAA Division II over the past two decades. To those who have followed his career, it should come as no surprise that Bonneau has turned ACU into a big winner. And now Bonneau takes on the challenge of leading the Wildcats into a new era as ACU moves up to NCAA Division I affiliation and back to the Southland Conference, which it helped to establish in But this new level to ACU is not new to Bonneau, who played collegiately at Lubbock Christian before spending one season at Oklahoma where he helped the Sooners earn a berth in the College World Series in In more than 20 years as a player, assistant coach and head coach at the college level, Bonneau has gone to one NCAA Division I College World Series, one NCAA Division II College World Series, one NAIA College World Series. As a standout centerfielder at Lubbock Christian ( ), he helped lead LCU to the 1991 NAIA World Series and was named Rawlings Region IV Player of the Year and first team all-america. He led the nation in hits (111), runs scored (109), RBI (98) and was third in home runs (19). In 1992 he played right field for Oklahoma and helped lead it to the Big Eight regular season title, a NCAA South Central region championship and a fifth-place finish at the College World Series in Omaha, Neb. Bonneau was named to the Big Eight all- Tournament team and the American Airlines/National Baseball Congress all-america team. Following college, Bonneau went on to a brief professional career with the Chicago Cubs organization and in the Texas-Louisiana League with the Tyler Wildcatters and the Lubbock Crickets, whom he helped lead to a league crown. He began his coaching career as an assistant at the University of Texas-San Antonio in 1993 before moving to LCU in 1994 and then ACU in Bonneau, 43, received his B.S. in kinesiology in 1994 from LCU. He and his wife, Cari, have four daughters, Jaci, Mati, Scotlyn and Landry.
