The Frogs welcomed an influx 16 newcomers in the fall that will have a chance to make an immediate impact. The lineup suffered the biggest loss with the departure of five everyday starters. The Frogs will have to replace 55 percent of their offense from a year ago. Gone are 270 hits, 21 home runs and 167 RBIs. The returners combined to hit.241 with 18 home runs and 123 RBIs. On the mound, while only one starter and three relievers have departed, they took with them 124 innings of work and six saves. The returning group boasts a 3.49 ERA with 398 strikeouts and a record. PRESEASON RESPECT The last 15 seasons have seen the Horned Frogs gradually imprint themselves on the national scene. No stranger to the rankings, the Frogs find themselves in the preseason polls for the 10th consecutive season. TCU is a consensus No. 25 team in five major polls. The Frogs are ranked as high as No. 16 (Perfect Game) and as low as No. 21 (National Collegiate Baseball Writer s Association Poll). Additionally, Nick Lodolo has earned a spot on various preseason All-American teams. It marks the ninth straight season the Horned Frogs have had at least one player recognized on a preseason All-America team. AMONG THE BEST IN THE COUNTRY Since taking over the program in 2004, head coach Jim Schlossnagle has done nothing but win. In 15 years under his guidance, the Horned Frogs are TCU has posted 11 seasons with at least 40 wins and three of 50+ wins. The Horned Frogs have appeared in 13 NCAA Regionals. The 648 victories are tops among Division I programs in the state of Texas as is the.687 winnings percentage. Since the start of the 2010 campaign, the Frogs boast the seventh-best winning percentage (.694) and the seventh-most wins (397) in the nation. ELITE COMPANY Despite missing the postseason for just the second time in Schlossnagle s tenure, TCU is still among the nation s elite. The Frogs are one of just 16 programs to have appeared in 13 of the last 15 NCAA postseasons. Additionally, TCU s five appearances in the CWS since 2010 are the second-most in the NCAA. SCORING IN BUNCHES In two of the last three years, TCU has ranked in top 50 in scoring and near the bottom nationally in sac bunts. TCU has averaged 6.5 runs the last three seasons, while tallying just 20 sacrifices. Over the last five years, TCU has scored multiple runs in 477 innings. In 139 innings, TCU has produced four or more runs. TCU has scored 10 or more runs 60 times over the last five seasons and tallied 108 wins of 5+ runs. Conversely, the Frogs have lost just 26 games by five or more runs since SPEED FACTOR TCU continues to be one of the most prolific base-stealing teams in the nation. The Frogs ranked second in the Big 12 and 37th nationally with 83 stolen bases in The Frogs are one of just 10 teams to have stolen at least 475 bases over the last five years. The 499 stolen bases rank seventh in the nation and second among Power 5 teams. STINGY STAFF The Frogs 3.02 ERA since 2014 is fifth nationally. TCU led the nation with a 2.22 ERA in 2014 and ranked second in 2015 with a 2.45 ERA. Additionally, the TCU pitching staff has tossed the second-most shutouts (43) nationally over the last five years. TCU has limited opponents to two or fewer runs 150 times over the last 323 games played. The staff has surrendered 5+ runs just 104 times. THE K-ZONE The Frogs set a school and Big 12 record in 2017 with 643 strikeouts. CHASING ANOTHER MILESTONE In a career that has been marked by milestones each and every year, the 2019 season will be no different. Last season, Schlossnagle notched his 700th career win. Already the all-time winningest coach in TCU history (648), Schlossnagle will be chasing his 650th victory at TCU and his 750th career win when the season begins. In 17 seasons as a head coach, Schlossnagle has a.681 ( ) winning percentage. He ranks sixth in winning percentage among active coaches with at least five years of experience. His 725 wins rank 32nd nationally among active coaches. EXTRA, EXTRA TCU has played 62 extra inning games since 2004 and holds a mark in those games. The Frogs went to extra innings for the fourth time in 2018 against Abilene Christian. TCU dropped a 4-2 decision in 11 innings, giving them a 9-3 record in extra innings dating back to the 2015 campaign. The 13-innings played against Minnesota is the longest game this season.
