Austin Texas Texas Tech UC Irvine UCLA USC UT Arlington UT Rio Grande Valley Vanderbilt West Virginia DOWN BUT NOT OUT One of the trademarks of the 2017 squad was its ability to comeback when trailing at some point in a contest. The Frogs rallied from a deficit 21 times en route to winning 50 contests. In five of the 18 losses, TCU battled back to tie the game at some point before eventually losing the contest. That trait has continued this season. Twice this season, the Frogs have rallied from an eighth inning deficit to win. In two of the three losses, the Frogs have battled back to tie the game before eventually losing the game. COMING OUT SWINGING Josh Watson has been on a tear since the season opened three weeks ago. The junior has hit safely in all 10 games, registering multi-hits in six of those contests. He boasts a.457 average, a mark that ranks fourth in the Big 12. His team-leading four doubles are sixth in the league. In Thursday s win over UTA, he hit his second home run of the season, surpassing his total from FINDING HIS GROOVE Graduate transfer A.J. Balta has fit right into the TCU lineup this season. He has started every game this year, two in right field and eight in center field. He has reached base safely in nine straight games and tallied a hit in seven. After going 0-for-4 in his first game, Balta is hitting.333 (11- for-33) in the last nine games with a team-leading four doubles and nine RBIs. EXPERIENCE SHINES THROUGH While the lineup featured at times five new faces, the experience of the upper classmen has been evident over the first two weekends. Luken Baker, Zach Humphreys, Michael Landestoy, Connor Wanhanen and Josh Watson combined to hit.343 (58-for-169) with 37 RBIs. Additionally, they connected on eight doubles, three triples and four home runs. FRESH FACES Over the first two weeks of the season, 12 newcomers made their TCU debut. Seven of them made their first collegiate start, while one saw time off the bench and four others toed the rubber for the first time. Adam Oviedo, Coby Boulware, Conner Shepherd, A.J. Balta, Danny Crews, Colton Parrish and Tristan Hanoian have all collected their first career hits, while James Notary tallied his first career save and Russell Smith earned his first career win. SCORING IN BUNCHES Over the last four-plus years, TCU has scored multiple runs in 409 innings. In 125 innings, TCU has produced four or more runs. So far this season, TCU has scored multiple runs 18 times, including five of four or more runs. TCU has scored 11 or more runs 52 times over the last four-plus seasons and tallied 96 wins of 5+ runs. Conversely, the Frogs have lost just 22 games by five or more runs since A RARITY In a rare occurrence, TCU allowed 15 runs to UC Irvine. Since Kirk Saarloos took over as pitching coach in 2013, TCU boasts a 2.86 ERA in over 3,000 innings pitched. TCU has limited opponents to two or fewer runs 158 times over the last 334 games played. The staff has surrendered 10+ runs just 17 times. THE K-ZONE The Frogs set a school and Big 12 record in 2017 with 643 strikeouts. TCU ranked 10th in K/9 at 9.5 in Since 2014, the Frogs has twice ranked in the top 10 in K/9 (2014, 8.4). The pitching staff picked up where it left off last season, registering 91 strikeouts in the first 10 games of the season. The Frogs have fanned 10 or more batters four times this season including a season-high 15 in Game 3 at Grand Canyon. THE STOPPER In 2017 Durbin Feltman set the school record and finished second in the NCAA with 17 saves. It was just the sixth time in program history a pitcher has recorded double-digit saves in a season. Feltman pitched around a trio of hits in the ninth on Sunday to pick up his second save of the season and the 28th of his career. The junior needs just five saves this year to break Riley Ferrell s career mark of 32 set from WALK THIS WAY TCU was one of the most patient teams in the NCAA last year ranking fourth nationally with 355 walks drawn. This season has seen the Frogs continue the trend with 43 walks in the first seven games. TCU is averaging 6.1 walks per game. Josh Watson leads the way with eight this year.
