Both series sweeps have come in the state of Oklahoma. For the seventh time this season, the Frogs had to shuffle their schedule due to weather. TCU fell to 3-4 in games decided by one run this year. TCU ranks fifth in the Big 12 in batting average (.266), third in ERA (3.52) and third in fielding percentage (.974). Johnny Rizer joined the home run hitter s club with his first of the year on Saturday. Seven Frogs have hit a home run this season. TCU was a perfect 12-for-12 in stolen bases over the weekend. Since the start of conference play, Shepherd has hit safely in six straight, boasting a.480 (12-for-25) average. He s raised his average 131 points over the last six games thanks to a quartet of multi-hit games. WELCOME ADDITION A.J. Balta transferred in after spending four seasons at Oregon. His versatility has been a welcomed addition as he s made starts in both right and center field. Against Oklahoma State, Balta hit.455 (5-for- 11) with two doubles and three RBIs. Additionally, he swiped four bases to give him 10 on the season. In 24 games played this season, Balta has hit safely in 16 and reached base in 20. He leads the team with eight doubles and is tied for the team lead with 18 RBIs. ON THE RUN After registering just 14 stolen bases through the first 17 games of the season, the Horned Frogs have found their groove on the bases. They have stolen a base in each of the last seven games. Over that stretch, they have tallied 19 stolen bases in 20 attempts. The Frogs stole 12 of the 19 in the three game series at Oklahoma State. TCU has been successful in each of its last 16 attempts dating back to the March 20 game against UAPB. A.J. Balta leads the way this season with 10 stolen bases, a mark that is tied for fifth-most in the Big 12. Nine Horned Frogs have contributed to the 33 stolen bases. STRANDED One of the key components in the sweep at Oklahoma State was the inability to drive in runs. The Frogs stranded a combined 37 runners in the three games, including 18 in Friday s extra-inning loss. On the year, the Frogs have stranded 10 or more runners in a game eight times. They are 3-5 in those contests. As a team, TCU is hitting just.258 with runners on base and.230 with runners in scoring position. THE K-ZONE After recording a Big 12 record 643 strikeouts in 2017, the pitching staff has picked up where it left off last season. TCU ranks fourth in the Big 12 with 243 strikeouts and second in K/9 (9.88). The Frogs have fanned 10 or more batters in eight of the last 10 games and a total of 14 times this season. TCU currently ranks 13th in the NCAA with a K:BB ratio of The 81 walks issued by the Frogs are far and away the fewest in the Big 12. STINGY STAFF TCU has limited opponents to two or fewer runs 142 times over the last 291 games played. The staff has surrendered 5+ runs just 93 times. SCORING IN BUNCHES Over the last four-plus years, TCU has scored multiple runs in 431 innings. In 130 innings, TCU has produced four or more runs. So far this year, TCU has scored multiple runs 40 times, including 10 of four or more runs. TCU has scored 10 or more runs 54 times over the last four-plus seasons and tallied 100 wins of 5+ runs. Conversely, the Frogs have lost just 24 games by five or more runs since WALK THIS WAY TCU was one of the most patient teams in the NCAA last year ranking fourth nationally with 355 walks drawn. This season has seen the Frogs continue the trend with 133 walks in the first 24 games. TCU is averaging 5.5 walks per game. Josh Watson leads the way with 21 this year. Four times this season, the Horned Frogs have draw 10 or more walks. Five Frogs (Watson, Zach Humphreys, Luken Baker, A.J. Balta and Tristan Hanoian) have drawn more walks than they have strikeouts. THE STOPPER In 2017 Durbin Feltman set the school record and finished second in the NCAA with 17 saves. It was just the sixth time in program history a pitcher has recorded double-digit saves in a season. Feltman has three saves this season and 29 in his career. The junior needs just four saves this year to break Riley Ferrell s career mark of 32 set from FRESH FACES This season, 12 newcomers have made their TCU debut. Eight have made their first career start in the field, while four others toed the rubber for the first time. Adam Oviedo, Coby Boulware, Conner Shepherd, A.J. Balta, Danny Crews, Colton Parrish and Tristan Hanoian have all collected their first career hits, while James Notary tallied his first career save and Russell Smith earned his first career win. EXTRA, EXTRA TCU has played 59 extra inning games since 2004 and holds a mark in those games. The Frogs went to extra innings for the third time in 2018 in Game 1 at Oklahoma State. TCU dropped a 7-6 decision in 11 innings, giving them a 9-2 record in extra innings dating back to the 2015 campaign. The 13-innings played against Minnesota is the longest game this season. It is the most played since TCU defeated Texas A&M in 15 innings on March 4, 2016.
