The Frogs are ranked as high as No. 3 (Perfect Game) and as low as No. 9 (Collegiate Baseball). TCU was picked to finish second in the Big 12 this season. TCU has never been picked lower than second since joining the league in Over the last four seasons, TCU ranks second in the nation with 198 victories. The series at Grand Canyon will mark the fourth time under the guidance of Jim Schlossnagle the Frogs have opened on the road. In 2006, TCU opened the season against Tulane at the Houston College Classic. TCU is 1-2 in season-openers on the road under Schlossnagle and 2-2 in openers away from home. The 2018 season also marks the 15th year in Schlossnagle s tenure. TCU is 9-5 in season-openers under his guidance. GRAND CANYON NOTABLES Grand Canyon will be playing its first game at the newly renovated Brazell Field. Grand Canyon won the WAC regular season in 2017 and is picked to repeat again this year. The Lopes return 19 letterwinners, six field starters and four members of their rotation. Pitcher Jake Wong is projected to be the WAC Pitcher of the Year. Since the start of the 2010 campaign, the Frogs boast the fifth-best winning percentage (.705) and the seventh-most wins (364) in the nation. The 615 wins are tops among Division I programs in the state of Texas as is the.693 winnings percentage. TCU s 2,215 program victories in 120 years of existence rank 43rd all-time. UP FOR GRABS TCU bid adieu to six everyday field starters and two starting pitchers at the end of the 2017 campaign. The Frogs welcomed an influx 15 newcomers in the fall that will have a chance to make an immediate impact. The lineup suffered the biggest loss with the departure of six everyday starters. The Frogs will have to replace 70 percent of their offense from a year ago. Gone are 429 hits, 46 home runs and 288 RBIs. The returners combined to hit.265 with 12 home runs and 120 RBIs. On the mound, while only two starters and two relievers have departed, they took with them 170 1/3 innings of work and 50 percent of the games started. The returning group boasts a 3.72 ERA with 458 strikeouts and a record. SCORING IN BUNCHES Over the last two seasons, TCU has ranked in top 50 in scoring and dead last in the nation in sacrifice bunts. TCU has averaged 6.8 runs the last two seasons, while tallying just 10 total sacrifices. Over the last four years, TCU has scored multiple runs in 391 innings. In 120 innings, TCU has produced four or more runs. TCU has scored 10 or more runs 50 times over the last four seasons and tallied 93 wins of 5+ runs. Conversely, the Frogs have lost just 21 games by five or more runs since SPEED FACTOR TCU continues to be one of the most prolific base-stealing teams in the nation. The Frogs paced the Big 12 and ranked seventh nationally with 108 stolen bases in The Frogs are one of just seven teams to have stolen at least 400 bases over the last four years. The 416 stolen bases rank sixth in the nation. SWINGING FOR THE FENCES For the second straight season, the Frogs surpassed the 50-home run plateau. The 58 home runs hit in 2017 were the most home runs since the 2010 campaign when they hit 101. From , TCU totaled 54 home runs combined. The last two seasons have seen the Frogs hit a combined 113 long balls. STINGY STAFF The Frogs 2.93 ERA since 2014 is fifth nationally. TCU led the nation with a 2.22 ERA in 2014 and ranked second in 2015 with a 2.45 ERA. Additionally, the TCU pitching staff has tossed the second-most shutouts (38) nationally over the last four years. TCU has limited opponents to two or fewer runs 132 times over the last 267 games played. The staff has surrendered 5+ runs just 81 times. THE K-ZONE The Frogs set a school and Big 12 record in 2017 with 643 strikeouts. TCU ranked 10th in K/9 at 9.5 in Since 2014, the Frogs has twice ranked in the top 10 in K/9 (2014, 8.4). TCU also set a school record with 26 Ks against Texas A&M on March 4, tied for the third-most in NCAA history. THE STOPPER In 2017 Durbin Feltman set the school record and finished second in the NCAA with 17 saves. It was just the sixth time in program history a pitcher has recorded double-digit saves in a season. Combined with his nine saves as a freshman, Feltman has 26 to rank second all-time in program history. The junior needs just seven saves this year to break Riley Ferrell s career mark of 32 set from STREAKING Before an injury cut his season short, Luken Baker had been on a tear at the plate. He enters the season carrying a streak of 29 games in which he has reached base safely. Additionally, he owns a nine-game hitting streak. Baker has a hit in 27 of the 29 games. VACUUMS In two of the last four seasons, the Frogs have established a school-record fielding percentage. TCU has fielded.972 or better each of the last five years, including a school-record.979 in Over the last four seasons, the Frogs have produced a combined.977 fielding percentage. The Frogs have one or fewer errors in 200 of their last 267 games played. EXTRA, EXTRA TCU has played 56 extra inning games since 2004 and holds a mark in those games.
