This will be the 59th meeting between the Crusaders and the Black Knights on the hardwood, with Holy Cross leading the all-time series, Army West Point swept the season series last year with wins in on Jan. 14 at West Point (67-53) and on Feb. 11 in Worcester (53-51). The Black Knights have won five of the last six games played, with Holy Cross last victory coming on Feb. 12, 2014 in West Point (92-85). In games played at Army, Holy Cross leads the series, 15-13, but the Black Knights have won two straight at West Point. Holy Cross won 27 of the first 34 games played between these two schools from its first meeting on Jan. 23, 1991 to Feb. 26, The Crusaders, however, have only won seven of the last 18 matchups against Army. These two teams met in the 2014 Patriot League Tournament championship game on March 15, 2014 at West Point, with the Black Knights earning the victory. There have been no overtime games in this series. LAST TIME OUT VS. LEHIGH Senior Lisa Mifsud totaled 20 points including a 4-of-9 clip from behind the arc but the Crusaders were defeated by Lehigh, 61-58, in Patriot League women s basketball action on Jan. 18 at Stabler Arena. After it made an 11-point comeback in the third quarter, Holy Cross held a lead with 9:00 minutes left in the fourth stanza. Lehigh, however, embarked on a 10-0 surge to gain a advantage with 5:34 on the clock. Holy Cross earned the lead back (58-56) with 1:48 left in regulation, but the Crusaders were held scoreless over the final minute-plus, as Lehigh went 5-of-8 from the charity stripe to ice the game and clinch the victory. In addition to Mifsud for Holy Cross, senior Molly Hourigan notched a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, while sophomore Katie Doherty posted 10 points and four rebounds. Sophomore Tricia Byrne tallied eight points and five rebounds, while classmate Infiniti Thomas-Waheed recorded four points, five rebounds and four steals. Holy Cross shot 32.8 percent from the field (22-67), while Lehigh hit on 19-of-59 from the floor (32.2%). The Crusaders canned 8-of-24 from behind the arc, while the Mountain Hawks drilled 28.6 percent from downtown (6-21). The game was won on the free-throw line, as Lehigh connected on 17-of-21 from the charity stripe (81.0%), and Holy Cross hit on 6-of-12 from the line (50.0%).

Holy Cross is tied for third in the Patriot League with Loyola Maryland at 4-2. Bucknell leads the conference with a 6-0 record, while Army West Point is 5-1. Senior guard Lisa Mifsud totaled a season-high 20 points (4-9 3FG), three rebounds and three assists at Lehigh. Mifsud averaged 18.0 points, 3.5 assists and 4.0 three-pointers per game last week against Lafayette and Lehigh. Mifsud is averaging 12.1 points and 4.3 assists per contest this year, while shooting 38.6 percent from downtown (34-88). Senior center Molly Hourigan recorded her third double-double of the season and the fourth of her career with 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds at Lehigh. Hourigan is averaging 8.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per game this year, while shooting 50.8 percent from the field (63-124). In Patriot League action, Hourigan is averaging 9.3 points, 12.0 rebounds and 4.0 blocked shots per game. Sophomore guard Infiniti Thomas-Waheed s double-digit scoring streak came to an end at 10 games, as she scored four at Lehigh. On the season, Thomas-Waheed is averaging 12.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game. Sophomore Katie Doherty totaled 10 points and four rebounds at Lehigh. She has started in all 49 games as a Crusader since her freshman season. Sophomore Tricia Byrne tallied eight points, five rebounds and three assists at Lehigh. Over the last five games, Byrne is averaging 10.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.0 steals per game off the bench. Junior Madelyn Ganser started in her 10th straight game and has averaged 7.0 rebounds per game over the last four contests. A CRUSADER WIN WOULD... Make Holy Cross 5-2 in the Patriot League for the first time since Snap a three-game losing streak to Army West Point and make Holy Cross all-time against the Black Knights. Improve their road record to 3-1 in Patriot League games and 3-6 overall this season. SCOUTING REPORT ON ARMY The Black Knights enter Wednesday s game with a 14-2 overall record and are currently in second place in the Patriot League at 5-1. Winners of four straight, Army has defeated Patriot League foes Lehigh (63-39), Lafayette (78-45), Loyola (70-37), Colgate (67-55) and American (52-42), while its lone loss came to Bucknell (79-69). The Black Knights are led by two-time Patriot League Player of the Year Kelsey Minato, who is averaging 23.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists, while shooting 48.3 percent from the field ( ) and 45.1 percent from downtown (46-102). Army leads the Patriot League in scoring offense (68.1 PPG), scoring defense (50.8 PPG), field-goal percentage (44.3%) and three-point percentage (39.5%). The Black Knights rank fifth in the nation in both scoring defense and three-point field-goal percentage, while they are 38th in field-goal percentage. Army is led by 10th year head coach Dave Magarity, who is at the helm of the Black Knights. Named the Patriot League Coach of the Year in , Magarity was the head coach of the Marist men s team ( ) and the St. Francis (Pa.) men s team ( ). UP NEXT... 3 MIFSUD SCORES -HIGH AT LEHIGH Holy Cross senior guard Lisa Mifsud had her best offensive performance of the year at Lehigh on Sunday, Jan. 17. Mifsud totaled 20 points, including a 4-of-9 clip from behind the arc. Prior to Lehigh, she totaled 16 points (4-7 3FG) and four assists against Lafayette, as well as 18 points and a team-best six assists at Colgate. DOUBLE-DOUBLE AT LEHIGH Senior center Molly Hourigan posted her third double-double of the season and the fourth of her career with 12 points and 14 rebounds at Lehigh. She is tied with classmate Raquel Scott for the team lead this season. Hourigan s other double-doubles this year came at UMass Lowell (12pts/10reb) and versus Navy (10pts/17reb). HOURIGAN VERSATILE AGAINST LAFAYETTE Senior center Molly Hourigan showed off her diverse game on Jan. 13 in the win over Lafayette. The 6-4 center recorded eight points, 12 rebounds, five blocked shots, four assists and a career-high four steals against the Leopards. She posted game-highs in assists and blocked shots, while she posted team-highs in rebounds and steals. BYRNE BABY BYRNE Sophomore guard Tricia Byrne has played extremely well off the bench for the Crusaders over the past five games. She scored a career-high 13 points (3-3 3PM) against Navy, including back-to-back three pointers late in the fourth quarter to give Holy Cross the four point (48-44) and seven point leads (51-44). HC OFF TO HOT START IN PATRIOT LEAGUE Holy Cross is off to a 4-2 start in the Patriot League, which ties it with Loyola Maryland for third place. This is the only the fourth time since that Holy Cross has started the Patriot League slate with a 4-2 record. With its first three-game winning streak of the season to begin the conference schedule, the Crusaders began the Patriot League regular season 3-0 for the third time in the last 11 seasons. THOMAS-WAHEED KEEPS SCORING Sophomore guard Infiniti Thomas-Waheed has been a key offensive threat so far to begin the Patriot League slate. In the opener at Boston University, she totaled 20 points and a career-high five steals, while against Navy she recorded a personal-best 21 points (5-6 3PM). At Colgate, she amassed 19 points, eight rebounds and four assists, while she scored 10 points against Bucknell and tallied 16 points and six boards in the win over Lafayette. Her 10-game double-digit scoring streak came to an end at Lehigh, as she totaled four points, five rebounds and four steals. In Patriot League action, Thomas-Waheed is averaging 14.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 2.5 steals per contest. She has led Holy Cross in scoring six times this season and has recorded double-digit points in a team-high 14 contests this year. Postgame Procedures Holy Cross head coach Bill Gibbons and players will be available following a brief cooling off period. For home games, press conferences will be held in the Bud Ryan Room room located on the second floor of the Hart Center. Holy Cross Hall of Famer Bob Fouracre is in his 29th season calling the play-by-play, while Adam Giardino and Brendan Glasheen are in their first seasons and will handle play-by-play duties for the WEEI games. On Television The Crusaders are scheduled to have three games shown on live television during the season. Charter TV3 The Holy Cross Coaches Show The Holy Cross Coaches Show will air every other week during the season, beginning on Oct. 6. Featuring Holy Cross head coaches and student-athletes, the show will air live on WEEI 1440 AM from the Compass Tavern in Worcester beginning at 7:00 p.m. Dick Lutsk will serve as the show s host. PATRIOT LEAGUE BLOCK PARTY Holy Cross senior Molly Hourigan and Colgate s Josie Stockill are two of the top 13 shot blockers in the nation. Hourigan ranks 13th in the NCAA with 2.9 blocks per game, while Stockill is the national leader with 4.3 blocked shots per contest. In the matchup between these two players on Jan. 6 at Colgate, Hourigan posted a career-high 16 points, seven rebounds and eight blocked shots, while Stockill had 19 points, six rebounds and zero blocks. The eight blocks for Hourigan tied a career-high and were the third-most all-time by a Crusader in a single-game. DOHERTY A MAINSTAY IN CRUSADER STARTING 5 Sophomore Katie Doherty has started in all 49 games for the Crusaders over the past two seasons. Through 17 games this year, Doherty is averaging 8.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game, while shooting 37.8 percent from the field (54-143). At Lehigh, she totaled 10 points and four rebounds, while in the win over Boston University, Doherty recorded 11 points and tied a season-high with six rebounds. Against UMass Lowell, she scored a season-high 16 points, while she had eight points and six boards at Pittsburgh. Doherty began the season with three consecutive double-digit scoring games against Penn State (11), UMass (10) and Boston College (13). GANSER PUTTING IN THE MINUTES A starter for Holy Cross in the past 10 games, junior Madelyn Ganser has played well so far this season. With a total of 11 starts under her belt this year, Ganser is averaging 4.4 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. Over the past four games, Ganser has hauled in 7.0 rebounds per game, including a career-high nine boards against Bucknell. She scored a personal-best 11 points versus Dartmouth earlier this season. SCOTT TO MISS REMAINDER OF Holy Cross senior forward Raquel Scott will miss the rest of the season with a right knee injury. A two-time first-team All-Patriot League selection in 2014 and 2015, Scott has compiled 1,240 points, 818 rebounds, 204 assists and 117 steals, while shooting 46.5 percent from the field ( ) and 32.9 percent from beyond the arc (23-70). She currently stands 14th in Holy Cross history in scoring, fourth in rebounding and is tied for third in career double-doubles (35). #3 Infiniti Thomas-Waheed GoHolyCross.com Crusader of the Week (1/4) Holy Cross Notables This season, she set a career-high with 36 points scored against Penn State. OFF THE BENCH Several other Crusaders have seen key minutes this season for Holy Cross. Senior Kate Gillespie has played in every game this year and is averaging 3.1 points per contest. Sophomores Shannon Druck and Amy Hasenauer, as well as freshmen Maggie Locke and Miranda Nixon have all seen minutes this season for the Crusaders. At Colgate, Hasenauer hauled in a team and career-high eight rebounds. SCOTT A NOMINEE FOR GOOD WORKS TEAM The Women s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and Allstate Insurance Company announced an all-time high 103 total nominees for the 2016 Allstate WBCA Good Works Team, which included Holy Cross senior women s basketball student-athlete Raquel Scott. Off the court, Scott is involved in many organizations and service groups within the Worcester community. Along with the rest of her teammates, Scott participates in Team Impact, Holy Cross Cares Day, the annual Mercy Center Basketball Game and the Walk to Cure Cancer. Scott is also the co-point person for the newly established Purple Goes Pink campaign within the women s basketball program. She was also a nominee for the WBCA Good Works Team. The Crusaders rank second in the Patriot League and 74th in the nation with 6.6 three-pointers made per game. Holy Cross also stands second in the conference and 94th in the NCAA in three-point fieldgoal percentage. Over the past eight games, Holy Cross is shooting 40.0 percent from behind the arc (60-150) and is averaging 7.5 treys per game. 5 CRUSADERS CHASING RECORDS Two Crusaders find themselves climbing the Holy Cross career record book. Molly Hourigan currently stands second on the all-time blocks list with 226 in her career. She is 83 away from the top spot in Holy Cross history held by Kathy Courtney. Lisa Mifsud has made 136 three-pointers in her career, which is eighth all-time in Holy Cross history. She is five shy of seventh place all-time. Mifsud is also 51 points away from becoming the 32nd player in Holy Cross program history with 1,000 career points. PURPLE GOES PINK The Holy Cross women s basketball team, in collaboration with the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, has announced its inaugural Purple Goes Pink initiative, to raise awareness and money for women s cancer. The campaign will culminate with the team s annual Play 4Kay game against Lehigh on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 1:00 p.m. Over the next few months, the Crusaders will be collecting donations at their games and online through their official Play 4Kay team page. GIBBONS IN 31ST AT THE HELM Bill Gibbons is in his 31st season as head coach of the Holy Cross women s basketball program in Over his 31 years of coaching, Gibbons holds a overall record and has guided the Crusaders to 13 postseason appearances (11 NCAA, 1 WNIT, 1 WBI) and 12 conference championships (11 Patriot League, 1 MAAC). He is the winningest coach in program history and ranks 40th all-time for wins by a Division I women s basketball coach. Currently, Gibbons stands 20th among active Division I coaches in victories. After achieving his 17th 20-win season in , Gibbons is now tied for 29th all-time in terms of 20-win seasons among all head coaches. He won his 250th Patriot League regular season game on Jan. 6 at Colgate. CRUSADERS GET FIT WITH WORCESTER YOUTH On Monday, Dec. 21, the Holy Cross women s basketball program hosted its fifth annual Get Fit With the Crusaders Game presented by Fallon Health. Over 2,800 Worcester public school children attended the game and learned about eating healthy and staying fit. The official attendance of 3,225 was the most for a Holy Cross women s basketball home game since the all-time record of 4,000 was set on Feb. Holy Cross Notables 11, 2006 versus Bucknell. It is also the highest attendance in the five-year history of the Get Fit Game. Holy Cross head strength and conditioning coach Jeff Olivier led a halftime presentation that taught the children about making good food choices and how to perform simple and safe exercises. HOLY CROSS PICKED SECOND IN PL The Holy Cross women s basketball team was picked to finish second in the Patriot League Preseason Poll, as voted on by the conference s head coaches and media relations directors. Army West Point was picked to finish first in the poll with 155 points and 13 first-place votes, as two-time Patriot League Player of the Year Kelsey Minato was voted as the Preseason Player of the Year. The Crusaders totaled 130 points and a pair of first-place votes, while Lehigh came in third with 127 points and three first-place votes. Bucknell finished fourth with 119 points and one first-place vote, while defending Patriot League champion American came in fifth with 111 points and one first-place vote. Rounding out the poll were Navy (sixth, 83 points), Colgate (seventh, 55 points), Loyola Maryland (eighth, 47 points), Lafayette (ninth, 43 points) and Boston University (tenth, 30 points). CRUSADERS AIM FOR BANNER #12 This year, Holy Cross will be looking to capture its 12th Patriot League Championship. The 11 conference title victories are the most in the history of the Patriot League. TURNING POINT: The Crusaders held the lead with 11:38 left in the second half, but Army went on an 11-4 spurt to gain the advantage at the 2:31-mark of the second half. Minato scored seven of the 11 points for the Black Knights during the stretch, as Holy Cross would not be able to retake the lead for the remainder of the contest. HOW IT HAPPENED: Holy Cross erupted out of the gate and took the 10-0 lead at the 17:33- mark of the first half. The Crusaders worked the margin to 11 points (18-7) with 13:46 on the clock, but the Black Knights countered with a 16-7 run to slice the deficit to (5:10). The two teams would trade buckets over the final five-plus minutes of the first half, as Holy Cross went into the locker room with the advantage. Army took its first lead of the game with a three-pointer by Daizjah Morris to start the second half and grab the edge (19:27). He is the winningest coach in the history of the program and enters the season ranked 20th among active Division I coaches and 39th all-time in NCAA history with 568 victories. On Dec. 3, 2011, Gibbons earned his 500th victory as Holy Cross head coach, becoming the 24th active Division I coach to reach 500 wins. He crossed the 550-win plateau on Feb. 19, He has led the Crusaders to 11 Patriot League Championships in his career as head coach. He has also made 13 postseason appearances (11 NCAA Tournaments, one WNIT and one WBI) in his 29 years. With seventeen 20-win seasons under his belt, Gibbons has cemented himself and the women s basketball program as one of the best in the East. The sixth coach of the women s program at Holy Cross, Gibbons has enjoyed the longest tenure in the position. He has led the Holy Cross women s basketball program to more victories than any other coach, and is the winningest coach in Holy Cross basketball history. With his 358th victory, he surpassed George Blaney (357 wins as head coach of the Holy Cross men s basketball program), who had hired him to be his assistant coach in Now with more than 550 wins under his belt, Gibbons is the second-winningest coach in Holy Cross Athletics history, behind legendary baseball coach Jack Barry, who totaled 616 wins from In 2006, Gibbons was named as a Russell Athletic / WBCA Victory Club Award recipient. The Russell Athletic / WBCA Victory Club Award is presented to each WBCA member head coach who achieves career wins of 200, 300, 400 and 500. Under his care and guidance, Holy Cross finished 25-6, setting a school record for victories. In addition, the squad earned an at-large invitation to the NCAA Tournament, upsetting Maryland, 81-74, at the Hart Center for the program s first-ever NCAA Tournament victory. Gibbons directed the Crusaders to a 22-7 overall mark and a Patriot League regular season title. His and squads also captured Patriot League championships, giving Holy Cross three titles in a span of four years. Gibbons earned his 200th career win on March 5, 1995, when the Crusaders upended Bucknell, in the semifinals of the Patriot League Tournament. In , Gibbons guided his squad to a 23-4 mark, matching the best winning percentage in school history. With a 12-0 mark in Patriot League play, Holy Cross became just the second team in league history to compile a perfect regular season record. For his efforts, Gibbons was honored as Patriot League Coach of the Year for the second time. The team compiled a 13-1 mark in Patriot League play (24-8 overall), earning its seventh-consecutive Patriot League regular season title. Gibbons was again named as the Patriot League Coach of the Year. After a disappointing mark in , the first sub-.500 season under Gibbons direction, the Crusaders came back to win 20 games in , while capturing both the Patriot League regular season (12-2) and tournament titles, and earning the program s 11th trip to the NCAA Tournament. The team (16-14 overall) compiled a 10-4 record in Patriot League play and won six of its last seven games going into the Patriot League championship game, but fell to Army, in the title contest, denying the program it s 10th postseason appearance in 12 years. The team (15-18 overall) finished third in the Patriot League but won the Patriot League Tournament title after defeating No. 4 seed American in the final. The Crusaders lost to Duke in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. During the season (19-13 overall) the Crusaders finished the season ranked second in the league with a 10-4 record and runner-up in the tournament, after hosting Bucknell in the Championship game. More recently, Gibbons teams have posted winning records in four of the last seven seasons, while making four more appearances in the Patriot League championship game (2008, 2012, 2013 and 2014). The 2012 team also advanced to the Women s Basketball Invitational, defeating New Hampshire in the first round for only the second postseason win in the program s history.
