The game is part of the Turnpike Trophy competition between Holy Cross and Boston University. Wednesday s matchup can be heard in the Worcester area on Emmanuel Radio 1230 AM or online at 1230radio.com. The contest will also be available on the Patriot League Network at PatriotLeague.tv. This is the 16th meeting between Holy Cross and Boston University and the fifth matchup between these two schools since the Terriers joined the Patriot League in The Crusaders lead the all-time series, 12-3, and have won three of the four matchups since Last season, Holy Cross swept the season series over BU, with wins on Dec. 31, 2014 in Boston (71-48) and on Feb. 28, 2015 in Worcester (76-62). The Terriers last victory against Holy Cross came on March 1, 2014 in Boston (67-65). Prior to BU s last win, Holy Cross had won nine straight games over the Terriers spanning from 1983 to In games played in Boston, Holy Cross holds the 4-2 series advantage, but is 1-1 since The schools first met in Worcester during the season, as Holy Cross won, LAST TIME OUT VS. DARTMOUTH... Senior Lisa Mifsud and sophomore Infiniti Thomas-Waheed each scored 12 points, but the Crusaders fell to Dartmouth, 60-54, on Dec. 21 at the Hart Center. In addition to the duo, senior Molly Hourigan chipped in with 11 points and nine rebounds, while junior Madelyn Ganser recorded career-highs of 11 points and four assists. With the game tied (35-35) with 6:45 left in the third quarter, Dartmouth used a 14-2 run to gain a lead at the 9:04-mark of the fourth stanza. Holy Cross would battle back and go on a 14-2 surge to cut the deficit to two points (53-51) with 2:36 left in regulation. Dartmouth hit a key bucket on the next possession to go ahead by four points (55-51) with just over two minutes left, as the Crusaders would not get any closer than four points for the remainder of the contest. Dartmouth hit on 46.2 percent of its shots from the field (24-52), while the Crusaders drained 44.9 percent from the floor (22-49). The Big Green canned 5-of-12 from behind the arc (41.7%), while Holy Cross connected on 7-of-20 from downtown (35.0%). The Big Green held the statistical edge in total rebounds (36-22), offensive rebounds (10-4), points off turnovers (20-16) and second-chance points (12-4). The Crusaders led in assists (16-13), points in the paint (26-16) and fast-break points (8-0).

The Crusaders posted a 3-8 record in non-conference action with wins over Bryant (65-64), Vermont (77-63) and Manhattan (58-44). Senior Lisa Mifsud totaled 12 points and five assists last time out versus Dartmouth. So far this season, she is averaging 11.6 points and 4.4 assists per game. Mifsud moved into a tie for eighth place in Holy Cross history with 122 career three-pointers made. Sophomore Infiniti Thomas-Waheed scored 12 points and had four swipes against Dartmouth. Thomas-Waheed is averaging 11.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game so far this season. Junior Madelyn Ganser posted career-highs with 11 points and four assists against Dartmouth. She is averaging 5.5 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. Junior Molly Hourigan recorded 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds last time out against Dartmouth. So far this season, Hourigan is averaging 8.0 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game. Hourigan hauled in her 500th career rebound versus Dartmouth and now has 508 caroms as a Crusader. Hourigan also moved to second place on the Holy Cross all-time career blocks list, as she has 202 blocked shots as a Crusader. Sophomore Katie Doherty started in her 43rd consecutive game against Dartmouth and dished out four assists. So far this season, Doherty is averaging 9.2 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. Sophomore Amy Hasenauer saw her first action of the season against Dartmouth, after missing the first 10 games of the campaign due to injury. She logged nine minutes and scored two points. Senior Raquel Scott has missed the last four games with a right knee injury. SCOUTING REPORT ON BOSTON U. The Terriers enter Wednesday s game with a 0-11 overall record and most recently lost to Vermont on Dec. 28, Boston University played five non-conference games this season against common opponents of Holy Cross. The Terriers lost to Boston College (58-37), Dartmouth (72-52), UMass Lowell (70-57), UMass (73-56) and Vermont (60-45). Boston University is led by Meghan Green, who is averaging 10.9 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. Troi Melton ranks second on the team in scoring with 9.5 points per contest, while she hauls in 5.3 rebounds per game. Boston University is piloted by second year head coach Katy Steding, who comes to BU after spending the past two seasons as an assistant coach at California. Steding was also an assistant at San Francisco and Columbia after serving as the head coach of Warner Pacific College of the NAIA. Steding is 5-36 in her two seasons at the helm of the Terriers. THE TURNPIKE TROPHY Throughout the academic year, Holy Cross and Boston University will be competing for the inaugural Turnpike Trophy. This athletic series between the in-state Patriot League rivals awards points for all head-to-head victories in both the regular season and postseason, with the Turnpike Trophy going to the school that accumulates the most points at the end of the year. Entering this week, the Terriers hold a 5-0 lead in the competition. In addition to the women s basketball game, the schools will also meet in men s basketball on Dec. 30 UP NEXT... 3 HOLY CROSS IN PATRIOT LEAGUE OPENERS Holy Cross is beginning its 26th season of play in the Patriot League with the contest at Boston University. During their first 25 years in the conference, the Crusaders have posted a 20-5 record in their first Patriot League game of the season. Over the last six Patriot League openers, however, Holy Cross is 3-3 with wins over Lafayette (72-67 in ) and Boston University (69-59 in ; in ) and losses to Lafayette (43-39 in ) and Lehigh (75-60 in ; in ). Holy Cross won 14 straight conference openers from to MIFSUD PLAYING WELL OVER LAST SIX GAMES Senior Lisa Mifsud has been a key contributor for Holy Cross over the past seven games. Over the seven-game stretch, Mifsud is averaging 13.4 points and 4.3 assists per game, while connecting on 18-of-37 from behind the arc (48.6%). Mifsud has scored double-digit points in each of the past seven games since missing two contests this season due to injury. She recorded 12 points and five assists against Dartmouth, while she posted 14 points and seven assists in the win over Vermont, and scored a season-high 17 points at UMass Lowell. In the win over Manhattan, Mifsud scored 14 points and drained 4-of-6 from downtown (66.7%). Named third team All-Patriot League in , she has compiled 871 points, 283 assists, 199 rebounds and 83 steals in her career. In the win over Manhattan, Hourigan totaled 10 points, five rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots, while she posted 11 points and nine rebounds last time out against Dartmouth. Over her career, she has recorded 531 points, 508 rebounds and 202 blocks, while shooting 51.2 percent from the floor ( ). THOMAS-WAHEED SHINES AS STARTER A starter in every game this season, sophomore Infiniti Thomas-Waheed has played a key role both on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. So far this year, Thomas-Waheed is averaging 11.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.4 steals and 1.8 assists per game, and has scored double-digit points in nine of the 11 games this season. Over the last five games, Thomas-Waheed has posted 12.8 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game. In the win over Vermont, she tied a career-high with 16 points and also hauled in a season-best six rebounds. Thomas-Waheed saw her consecutive freethrows made streak come to an end against Manhattan, as she had previously drilled 18 straight over the prior four games. In her two seasons at Holy Cross, she has recorded 299 points, 139 rebounds, 76 assists and 55 steals. Postgame Procedures Holy Cross head coach Bill Gibbons and players will be available following a brief cooling off period. For home games, press conferences will be held in the Bud Ryan Room room located on the second floor of the Hart Center. Media members should submit interview requests to Jim Sarkisian by the five minute mark of the fourth quarter. If requested, the visiting team will speak at the press conference first, followed by Holy Cross. Featuring Holy Cross head coaches and student-athletes, the show will air live on WEEI 1440 AM from the Compass Tavern in Worcester beginning at 7:00 p.m. Dick Lutsk will serve as the show s host. seasons. Through 11 games this year, Doherty is averaging 9.2 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game, while shooting 40.2 percent from the field (37-92). Against Pittsburgh, Doherty posted eight points and a season-best six rebounds, while she tied a career-high with 16 points at UMass Lowell. In the last game against Manhattan, she totaled six points and tied a season-high with five assists. Named to the Patriot League All-Rookie team in , she has recorded 309 points, 130 rebounds, 103 assists and 38 steals as a Crusader. GANSER PUTTING IN THE MINUTES A starter for Holy Cross in the past four games, junior Madelyn Ganser has played well so far this season. With five starts under her belt this year, Ganser is averaging 5.5 points and 3.1 rebounds per game, while shooting 44.9 percent from the field (22-49) and 83.3 percent from the charity stripe (15-18). In the past four games, she is averaging 6.8 points and 4.3 rebounds per contest. Ganser is coming off her best game as a Crusader with career highs of 11 points and four rebounds versus Dartmouth. Prior to that, she scored 10 points at Boston College, while she has hauled in a career-best five rebounds three times this season - most recently against UMass Lowell. OFF THE BENCH Several other Crusaders have seen key minutes this season for Holy Cross. Sophomore Tricia Byrne has played in 10 games this season and is averaging 4.9 points and 2.1 rebounds per contest. A starter in three games this year, Byrne posted 10 points and a career-high seven rebounds at Boston College, and a personal-best 12 points and seven assists at Quinnipiac. Senior Kate Gillespie has played in every game this year and is averaging 3.2 points per contest. Sophomores Shannon Druck and Amy Hasenauer, as well as freshmen Maggie Locke and Miranda Nixon have all seen minutes this season for the Crusaders. SCOTT DOMINATES PAINT FOR HOLY CROSS Holy Cross senior Raquel Scott has been a strong presence down low this season, but has missed the last three games due to injury. In seven games played this year, Scott is averaging 16.4 points and 8.9 rebounds per game, while shooting 48.4 percent from the field (46-95). At Penn State, she tallied a career-high 36 points (two shy of tying Holy Cross all-time record) and 11 rebounds, while she posted 26 points and a season-best 15 rebounds at Yale. In her last time out against Vermont, Scott scored 23 points. A two-time first-team All-Patriot League selection, Scott has compiled 1,240 points, 818 rebounds, 204 assists and 117 steals, while shooting 46.5 percent from the field ( ) and 32.9 percent from beyond the arc (23-70). She currently stands 14th in Holy Cross history in scoring, fourth in rebounding and is tied for third in career double-doubles (35). SCOTT A NOMINEE FOR GOOD WORKS TEAM The Women s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and Allstate Insurance Company announced an all-time high 103 total nominees for the 2016 Allstate WBCA Good Works Team, which included Holy Cross senior women s basketball student-athlete Raquel Scott. This distinguished award shines a spotlight on a select group of student-athletes who have shown dedication to service in their communities. Off the court, Scott is involved in many organizations and service groups within the Worcester community. Along with the rest of her teammates, Scott participates in Team Impact, Holy Cross Cares Day, the annual Mercy Center Basketball Game and the Walk to Cure Cancer. Scott is also the co-point person for the newly established Purple Goes Pink campaign within the women s basketball program. She was also a nominee for the WBCA Good Works Team. PURPLE GOES PINK The Holy Cross women s basketball team, in collaboration with the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, has announced its inaugural Purple Goes Pink initiative, to raise awareness and money for women s cancer. The campaign will culminate with the team s annual Play 4Kay game against Lehigh on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 1:00 p.m. Over the next few months, the Crusaders will be collecting donations at their games and online through their official Play 4Kay team page. Hourigan played in her 100th contest against UMass Lowell on Dec. 9 and has started in 53 games as a Crusader. Mifsud appeared in her 100th game on Dec. 12 versus Manhattan and has been a starter in 67 games over her career. CRUSADERS CHASING RECORDS Several Crusaders find themselves in or closing in on the Top-10 in the Holy Cross career record book. Raquel Scott is tied for third all-time in double-doubles with 35 and is fourth in total rebounds with 818. She is five double-doubles from second place and 145 rebounds from third place. Molly Hourigan currently stands second on the all-time blocks list with 202 in her career. She is 107 away from the top spot in Holy Cross history held by Kathy Courtney. Lisa Mifsud has made 122 three-pointers in her career, which is tied for eighth all-time in Holy Cross history. She is 19 shy of seventh place 4

OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN Holy Cross will be led this season by senior co-captains Kate Gillespie and Raquel Scott. These two players take over the leadership role from Emily Parker and Clare Sullivan, who served as captains for the season. GIBBONS IN 31ST AT THE HELM Bill Gibbons is in his 31st season as head coach of the Holy Cross women s basketball program in Over his 31 years of coaching, Gibbons holds a overall record and has guided the Crusaders to 13 postseason appearances (11 NCAA, 1 WNIT, 1 WBI) and 12 conference championships (11 Patriot League, 1 MAAC). He is the winningest coach in program history and ranks 40th all-time for wins by a Division I women s basketball coach. Currently, Gibbons stands 20th among active Division I coaches in victories. After achieving his 17th 20-win season in , Gibbons is now tied for 29th all-time in terms of 20-win seasons among all head coaches. CRUSADERS GET FIT WITH WORCESTER YOUTH On Monday, Dec. 21, the Holy Cross women s basketball program hosted its fifth annual Get Fit With the Crusaders Game presented by Fallon Health. Over 2,800 Worcester public school children attended the game and learned about eating healthy and staying fit. The official attendance of 3,225 was the most for a Holy Cross women s basketball home game since the all-time record of 4,000 was set on Feb. 11, 2006 versus Bucknell. It is also the highest attendance in the five-year history of the Get Fit Game. Holy Cross head strength and conditioning coach Jeff Olivier led a halftime presentation that taught the children about making good food choices and how to perform simple and safe exercises. HOME SWEET HOME In its 42nd campaign, the Holy Cross women s basketball team has enjoyed great success in home games played at the Hart Center, as it is (.730) all-time since the beginning of the program in So far this year, Holy Cross is 3- in the friendly confines of the Hart Center with wins over Bryant (65-64), Vermont (77-63) and Manhattan (58-44), and losses to UMass (74-60) and Dartmouth (60-54). Last year, Holy Cross went 6-7 at the Hart Center, but won four of its final six home games in Worcester. TURNING POINT: With the score knotted at at the 10:27-mark of the first half, the Crusaders embarked on a 10-0 surge to gain the lead (7:12). Boston University would get no closer than eight points for the remainder of the contest. HOW IT HAPPENED: The two teams traded possessions over the first 10 minutes of the opening stanza, as the score was tied at with 10:27 on the clock. The Crusaders, however, opened the game up with 10 straight points, including six coming from junior guard Lisa Mifsud to give Holy Cross the advantage (7:12). Boston University cut the margin to eight points (30-22) on the next possession, but a 10-4 spurt by Holy Cross to close out the half gave it the lead at intermission. Parker and freshman guard Infiniti Thomas-Waheed scored four points each for Holy Cross during the rally. The Crusaders increased their lead to 51-28, thanks to an 11-2 surge to start the second half (17:28). Freshman guard Katie Doherty scored five points in the second-half stretch, while Parker totaled four. He is the winningest coach in the history of the program and enters the season ranked 20th among active Division I coaches and 39th all-time in NCAA history with 568 victories. On Dec. 3, 2011, Gibbons earned his 500th victory as Holy Cross head coach, becoming the 24th active Division I coach to reach 500 wins. He crossed the 550-win plateau on Feb. 19, He has led the Crusaders to 11 Patriot League Championships in his career as head coach. He has also made 13 postseason appearances (11 NCAA Tournaments, one WNIT and one WBI) in his 29 years. With seventeen 20-win seasons under his belt, Gibbons has cemented himself and the women s basketball program as one of the best in the East. The sixth coach of the women s program at Holy Cross, Gibbons has enjoyed the longest tenure in the position. He has led the Holy Cross women s basketball program to more victories than any other coach, and is the winningest coach in Holy Cross basketball history. With his 358th victory, he surpassed George Blaney (357 wins as head coach of the Holy Cross men s basketball program), who had hired him to be his assistant coach in Now with more than 550 wins under his belt, Gibbons is the second-winningest coach in Holy Cross Athletics history, behind legendary baseball coach Jack Barry, who totaled 616 wins from In 2006, Gibbons was named as a Russell Athletic / WBCA Victory Club Award recipient. The Russell Athletic / WBCA Victory Club Award is presented to each WBCA member head coach who achieves career wins of 200, 300, 400 and 500. Gibbons made his way onto the prestigious list with a win over Army on January 12, Entering the season, Gibbons ranks in the top-25 on the list of winningest active Division I coaches. In 2003, he was inducted into the New England College Basketball Hall of Fame at the University of Rhode Island. SEVENTEEN 20-WIN S Gibbons has led the Crusaders to more victories than any other coach in Holy Cross history during his 29-year tenure. He has won 20 or more games in 11 of the last 20 seasons and in 17 seasons overall. His win seasons are tied for the 29th most by a Division I coach in NCAA history. For his career, Gibbons has averaged 18.9 wins per year. In his rookie campaign, Gibbons led his squad to an impressive 21-7 overall record and a third place finish in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The Crusaders finished with a overall mark and placed second in the MAAC. In , Holy Cross upped its ledger to 21-8 and took second place conference honors. Gibbons level of success reached new heights with a MAAC Tournament title and an NCAA Tournament appearance in In addition, the Crusaders finished the season overall and 10-2 in the MAAC. SUCCESS IN THE PATRIOT LEAGUE The campaign was a monumental season for Gibbons. Voted Patriot League Coach of the Year by his peers, he led the Crusaders to a 12-0 conference record and to the regular season and postseason league championships. Under his care and guidance, Holy Cross finished 25-6, setting a school record for victories. In addition, the squad earned an at-large invitation to the NCAA Tournament, upsetting Maryland, 81-74, at the Hart Center for the program s first-ever NCAA Tournament victory. Gibbons directed the Crusaders to a 22-7 overall mark and a Patriot League regular season title. His and squads also captured Patriot League championships, giving Holy Cross three titles in a span of four years. Gibbons earned his 200th career win on March 5, 1995, when the Crusaders upended Bucknell, in the semifinals of the Patriot League Tournament. In , Gibbons guided his squad to a 23-4 mark, matching the best winning percentage in school history. With a 12-0 mark in Patriot League play, Holy Cross became just the second team in league history to compile a perfect regular season record. For his efforts, Gibbons was honored as Patriot League Coach of the Year for the second time. The team compiled a 13-1 mark in Patriot League play (24-8 overall), earning its seventh-consecutive Patriot League regular season title. Gibbons was again named as the Patriot League Coach of the Year. After a disappointing mark in , the first sub-.500 season under Gibbons direction, the Crusaders came back to win 20 games in , while capturing both the Patriot League regular season (12-2) and tournament titles, and earning the program s 11th trip to the NCAA Tournament. The team (16-14 overall) compiled a 10-4 record in Patriot League play and won six of its last seven games going into the Patriot League championship game, but fell to Army, in the title contest, denying the program it s 10th postseason appearance in 12 years. The team (15-18 overall) finished third in the Patriot League but won the Patriot League Tournament title after defeating No. 4 seed American in the final. The Crusaders lost to Duke in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. During the season (19-13 overall) the Crusaders finished the season ranked second in the league with a 10-4 record and runner-up in the tournament, after hosting Bucknell in the Championship game. More recently, Gibbons teams have posted winning records in four of the last seven seasons, while making four more appearances in the Patriot League championship game (2008, 2012, 2013 and 2014).
