In a tightly-contested fourth quarter, the Minutewomen finally pulled away for good when Bre Hampton-Bey dished a perfect pass to Maggie Mulligan in the post, setting up the game-winning basket with 1:06 on the clock. Hailey Leidel led all scorers with 20 points in the victory while Mulligan (16) and Paige McCormick (12) also cracked double figures. Mulligan added 14 boards to collect her second consecutive doubledouble and 31st of her career. Leidel is just one 3-point makes away from tying the UMass single-season record (78). Leidel first matched that figure as a freshman in , while Cerie Mosgrove was the first to accomplish the feat in Additionally, Mulligan now has 62 blocks on the season which is a career-high for the senior. That total ranks third all-time at UMass and is just six short of tying the program record (68). Head coach Tory Verdi logged his 96th career victory in the win over Davidson on Feb. 17. Prior to arriving at Massachusetts ahead of the campaign, Verdi earned 72 triumphs at the helm of Eastern Michigan ( ) and three as interim head coach at Columbia ( ). Richmond was last in action on Sun., Feb. 18, taking down VCU by a score. Led by 12 points apiece from Micaela Parson and Jaide Hinds-Clarke, the decision gave the Spiders their first twogame sweep of VCU since the season. Parson has also scored in double figures each game this season. She averages a team-high 18 points per game, while her younger sister, Alex, boasts 10.7 in the scoring column. Micaela also leads the Spiders in rebounds (6.0 rpg). As a team Richmond has emerged as one of the top squads in terms of taking care of the basketball. The Spiders average 12.2 turnovers per game which ranks second in the A-10 and No. 18 in the country. George Washington (11.3) and Mercer (9.5) lead the conference and nation, respectively. Senior Day is next for the Minutewomen as the squad wraps up the regular season on Sat., Feb. 24 against Rhode Island. All Truth, No Lies After tying the UMass single-season record for made three-point baskets (78) in , sophomore Hailey Leidel is just one triple short of matching that mark with two games remaining. Leidel s 77 makes would hypothetically lead 14 other Division I conferences, including the Big 12 and SEC. She continues to pace the Minutewomen offensively with a team-high 15.7 points per game which is 10th in the A-10. In addition, she is on pace to surpass Katie Nelson ( ) for the highest number of made 3-pointers at UMass. Leidel has drained 155 baskets from downtown in less than two seasons, while Nelson put down 191 in her career. Verdi Approaching 100 Career Wins Massachusetts head coach Tory Verdi logged his 96th career victory at the collegiate level in the win over Davidson on Feb. 17. Prior to arriving at UMass ahead of the campaign, Verdi earned 72 triumphs at the helm of Eastern Michigan ( ) and three as interim head coach at Columbia ( ). Climbing The Record Book Senior Leah McDerment is leaving a mark in the UMass record book as her time with the Maroon and White winds down. The native of Stockport, England has earned time in 117 games during her career, just two short of tying former Minutewoman Kim Benton ( ) for the all-time program record. McDerment can match that figure if she appears in both remaining regular season contests. Take It Away! Massachusetts now has logged 221 steals on the season, averaging 8.2 per game, both of which are among the top three in the Atlantic 10. Individually, freshman Bre Hampton-Bey boasts 2.23 takeaways per game which is third in the conference and eighth nationally among rookies. Hi, How May We Assist You Today? UMass has dished out a total of 396 assists this season, the fourth-best figure in the A-10 and No. 85 among the Division I ranks. Breaking that down to a per-game figure, the Minutewomen are averaging 14.7 dimes. Saint Louis leads the conference in both the total (453) and per game (16.8) areas. Nah, Nah, Nah...Not In My House With two blocks against Davidson on Sat., Feb. 17, Maggie Mulligan has now registered a total of 62 on the season, a career-high that also ranks third alltime at Massachusetts for one campaign. Former Minutewoman Kate Mills holds both the top (68, ) and second (64, ) positions in the UMass record book. Hampton-Bey Collects A-10 Recognition After averaging 19 points, nine rebounds and six assists at Saint Louis (Jan. 18) and against VCU (Jan. 21), Bre Hampton-Bey was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week on Mon., Jan. 22. The Toledo, Ohio native was clutch for UMass down the stretch as the Minutewomen entered the bonus with over six minutes left. In the stretch that followed, Hampton-Bey seven of nine free throws. Her 31 points against VCU were the most by a UMass rookie since Melissa Gurile drained 34 at Northeastern on Dec. 1, Earlier in the week at Saint Louis (Jan. 18), she dropped seven points and grabbed a career-best 13 rebounds. 5

6 UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS WOMEN S BASKETBALL GAME NOTES I Palumbo, You Palumbo, He She Me...Palumbo Maggie Mulligan s 22 rebounds on Sun., Dec. 31 at Duquesne were the most ever recorded by any Dukes opponent in a single game as well as the top figure in a contest played at the Palumbo Center, which opened in Both previous marks (21) were held by former Minutewoman Jennifer Butler and recorded in a game played on Jan. 17, Pair of Incoming Freshmen Tabbed McDonald s All- American Nominees Incoming UMass freshmen Alexa Kellner and Destiny Philoxy were named McDonald s All-American Game nominees on Wed., Jan. 10. Although Kellner and Philoxy did not make the final rosters for the March 28 contest, the showcase is widely regarded as one of the best in the United States, nominating the nation s top high school players. Both Kellner and Philoxy submitted National Letters of Intent in November 2017 as early signees and will officially join UMass beginning in Money! Dinero! Genesis Rivera went a perfect 6-of-6 from downtown in the first quarter on Sat., Dec. 2 against Mississippi Valley State, a feat not previously accomplished at UMass. Of all players across the Atlantic 10, none prior to Rivera have hit six in a single quarter this season. The previous top conference mark in was held by La Salle s Amy Griffin, who went 5-of-5 in the third period against Lafayette on Fri., Nov. 10. Record-Breaking Effort A number of single-game UMass records were broken on Thurs., Dec. 7 against Fisher College, notably Hailey Leidel s 10-of-10 performance from three-point land, surpassing the previous top figure of seven triples made. That clip also tied the NCAA Division I singlegame record for consecutive makes from beyond the arc. In addition, the Minutewomen set new team highs in three-pointers made (17), points in a quarter (39, 1st), points in a half (70, 1st), total points (121), assists (34), and largest margin of victory (83). Over The Century Mark UMass has surpassed 100-points twice this season, eclipsing that figure against Maine-Fort Kent on Nov. 10 (111-45) and Fisher on Dec. 7 (121-38). In recording that triumph over UMFK, the Minutewomen crossed the century mark for the first time since Dec. 13, 1980 when the squad defeated Vermont,

7 UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS WOMEN S BASKETBALL GAME NOTES Last Time Out Feb. 17 vs. Davidson Mulligan s Late Basket Gives Minutewomen Victory Over Davidson AMHERST, Mass. University of Massachusetts women s basketball defeated Davidson, 70-68, on Saturday in the team s annual Play4Kay Game at the Mullins Center. To commemorate the game, UMass wore special pink uniforms to support the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and raise awareness for cancer research efforts. Maggie Mulligan posted her second consecutive double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Hailey Leidel put down 20 points to lead all scorers. Leidel is now one three-point basket away from tying the single season UMass record for triples made (78). In addition, Mulligan now has 62 blocks on the year a career-high that also ranks third in UMass history. Leah McDerment had eight assists, just one dime short of the senior s single game season-high (9), set on Feb. 4 against La Salle. As a team UMass dished out 21 assists on 24 total field goals. The game-winning basket was set up with just over one minute remaining in regulation. After both sides ran into difficulty holding on to the basketball, Bre Hampton-Bey found Mulligan in the post with a perfectly-timed pass for a layup with 1:06 on the clock. It was Hampton-Bey s fourth assist of the afternoon. Leidel came up with a huge steal with just four seconds left. After the Wildcats took possession with a chance to tie the game, a frontcourt scramble culminated with a loose ball that Leidel corralled, allowing UMass to use its final timeout. Hampton-Bey was unable to convert on the free throws that followed a subsequent foul, but at the buzzer Kianna Speight missed what would have been a game-winning three-pointer for Davidson. Leidel came up with 12 of her 20 points in the third quarter. That frame helped the Minutewomen swell their lead to a game-high 10 points, culminating a 10-2 run in the final three minutes. Sarah Donovan wrapped up the period with a buzzer-beater for the Wildcats, narrowing the UMass lead at that point to six at The final eight minutes were witness to six lead changes before the Minutewomen finally went ahead for good on Hampton-Bey s dish to Mulligan. 8 UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSETTS WOMEN S BASKETBALL GAME NOTES Last Time vs. Richmond Jan. 31, 2018 Massachusetts Topped By Richmond, AMHERST, Mass. Maggie Mulligan contributed a double-double performance with 17 points and 13 rebounds, both game-highs, but a fast start at both ends of the floor gave Richmond momentum as the Spiders topped the UMass women s basketball team, 51-39, on Wednesday at the Mullins Center. The game was played before a Field Trip Day crowd of 2,512. Hailey Leidel and Leah McDerment each trailed Mulligan with nine points apiece, while McDerment also handed out five assists. Jessica George and Paige McCormick each grabbed three steals. The Spiders set the tone early with a 12-2 opening run, a window that ended with a Bre Hampton-Bey layup at the 1:34 mark of the first quarter. Massachusetts would counter the stretch with five unanswered points of its own, but Richmond s Kailyn Fee banked a three-pointer at the buzzer that extended the Spiders lead back to eight at Coming out of halftime UMass was highlighted by nine points from Mulligan in the third quarter, but a strong showing by the visitors swelled Richmond s lead to a game-high of 21 with 5:35 on the clock. For the remainder of the period, the sides exchanged buckets before heading into the final stanza with a score in favor of the Spiders. Massachusetts did string together a 7-2 run in the middle stages of the fourth period, but the earlier damage done by Richmond was too much to overcome. The Maroon and White shot 16- of-48 (33.3 percent) on the day in comparison to Richmond s 17-of-55 (30.9 percent) clip. However, the Minutewomen faced difficulty from the field in the first half, making just 5-of- 28 attempts (17.9 percent) in the first 20 minutes.
