Contact: Philip J. LaBella THE STORY LINE: Lafayette is looking to put together back to back wins for the second time this season. The Leopards (8-13, 2-6) are coming off a two-point road win at Bucknell on Wednesday, the third straight win for the Leopards at Davis Gym. Lafayette, which is coming off a three-game road swing, looks for Patriot League win No. 3, hoping to add Navy to Holy Cross on a list of wins over conference frontrunners. Navy enters in second place at 6-1 in league play, just percentage points behind Holy Cross (7-1). The Midshipmen, who are 14-8 overall, last played Monday, a loss at Richmond. BURKE HEALTH UPDATE: Brian Burke, who has been sidelined with a punctured lung since Dec. 11 at Fordham, is closer than ever to joining his Lafayette teammates in uniform. Burke began seriously working out with contact at the beginning of February. The junior guard, the Lafayette trainers and the Lafayette coaching staff have been evaluating his health on a daily basis. No specific return date has been set. Burke was the Leopards leading scorer before his injury, averaging 13.9 points per game. The Leopards, who were 4-3 prior to his injury, have gone 4-10 since that Dec. 11 game. MOVING UP ON THE ALL-TIME LIST: Senior point guard Tim Bieg is slowly ascending some of the Patriot League s all-time lists. Bieg is third in steals with 194, three ahead of Navy s Chris Williams. Bieg is also 11th on the all-time assist chart with 303 and could move up as high as eighth or ninth. STARTING POINT: Lafayette Head Coach Fran O Hanlon has used seven different starting lineups. Point guard Tim Bieg and center Frank Barr are the only two players to have started every game for the Leopards. Tyson Whitfield has started all but three games, missing the first three due to injury. LONG DISTANCE CONNECTION: Lafayette is ranked 20th in the nation in three-point field goals per game in the latest NCAA statistics (Feb. 5), averaging 8.4 trifectas per outing in Individually, Tyson Whitfield, who leads the way with 3.4 three s per game, is ranked 13th in the nation. 2 STILL LEADING THE LEAGUE IN ATTENDANCE: Lafayette has led the Patriot League in attendance each of the last three seasons, and this season the fans are showing their dedication, hanging with the Leopards through some challenging times. Lafayette is averaging 2,439 fans per home game. Navy is the next closest, averaging nearly 500 fewer fans at 1,985 per game followed by Holy Cross (1,828), Bucknell (1,558), Lehigh (1,002), Army (732) and Colgate (648). BEFORE THE INJURY: Before a punctured lung sidelined him on Dec.11, Brian Burke was averaging a Patriot League-high 5.4 assists per game (43) through eight games. He dished out a career-high 11 assists at Cornell in the season opener, shattering his previous record by six. Despite missing 13 games, Burke is still second on the team in assists with 43 Burke, who is also the Patriot League recordholder for consecutive free throws with 49, was shooting 95 percent from the free throw line, making 39 of 41 attempts. That percentage would currently rank him second in the nation if he had enough attempts to qualify. UNIQUE COMPANY: Tim Bieg recently joined Craig Kowalda 96 as the only players in Patriot League history to amass 300 assists, 150 steals and 150 three pointers. Currently, Bieg has 303 assists, 194 steals and 165 three-pointers. In case you re wondering, Bieg needs 109 points to reach 1,000, which averages out to 15.6 points per game over the remaining seven games, including the first round of the Patriot League Tournament. Kowalda finished his career with 1,413 points. A FRUITFUL FEBRUARY?: Fran O Hanlon s teams always seem to hit their stride in the month of February. Under Fran O Hanlon, the Leopards are 28-9 in February and were 27-2 over the past three seasons. Last season, Lafayette was 8-1 with two wins over Bucknell, and one each over Albany, Holy Cross, Stony Brook, Army, Lehigh and Colgate. The Leopards only loss was at Navy on Feb. 9. In , the Leopards went 7-1 with their lone February loss coming in a one-point decision at Colgate. In , the Leopards went 5-0 in February to close out the regular season. This season, Lafayette is 1-1 in February, losing at Lehigh, but emerging victorious at Bucknell. Lafayette has four conference games remaining in February in addition to non-league games with Albany and Stony Brook. HORSE SHOES AND HAND GRENADES: They say close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. Close still doesn t mean anything in the world of wins and losses in college basketball. That said, Lafayette has lost six games by five points or less, four of those in overtime. Lafayette s average margin of defeat in all 13 losses is 8.0 points. FROM THE LINE: Lafayette has been ranked in the top 25 in the nation in free throw shooting nearly the entire season. The Leopards are currently shooting 73.5 percent from the line. Three of Lafayette s key players (Brian Burke 95%, Tyson Whitfield 80% and Tim Bieg 78%) are hovering near or above 80 from the line for the year The Leopards 96 percent (24-25) effort vs. Princeton on Dec. 6 is the seventh best team performance in the nation this season, and the fourth best of teams with 20 or more attempts in a game. LONG-RANGE BOMBER: Throughout his career, the majority of Tyson Whitfield s shots have been of the long-range variety. With eight three-pointers vs. La Salle on Dec. 29, Whitfield earned a share of the Lafayette school record for three-pointers in a game. He tied Larry Spigner s 93 record performance vs. Yale on Dec. 3, With 19 attempts in that game, Whitfield also set a new mark for three-point tries. Whitfield holds two single-season records for three-point field goals made (91) and three-point field goals attempted (213) which he set in He is also the career three-point leader at Lafayette, having nailed 258 trifectas. ROAD RASH: Lafayette is coming off three straight conference road games. Lafayette traveled to Colgate on Jan. 31 and made the trip on I-78 to Hellertown to face Lehigh on Feb. 3. The Leopards then drove across I-80 for a meeting with SCOUTING REPORT NAVY: The Midshipmen are currently just percentage points behind Holy Cross for the Patriot League lead. Navy is coming off a loss at Richmond on Feb. 5 and a win at Bucknell on Feb. 3. Senior forward Chris Williams leads the team and is third in the Patriot League in scoring at 17.2 ppg. Williams is also the team s leading rebounder at 6.1 rebounds per game. Classmate Robert Reeder, who scored a career-high 18 points vs. Lafayette in the first meeting, is expected to start at power forward. Michael Cunningham (center), Demond Shepard (guard) and John Williams (guard) round out the probable starting lineup for Navy. Navy is coached by Don DeVoe, a 1964 graduate of Ohio State. Last season, Lafayette was 5-1 in Patriot League road games, the only loss coming at Navy. LEADING THE LEAGUE: Three-time defending Patriot League champion Lafayette is currently leading the Patriot League in several statistical categories including scoring (75.3 ppg), assists (15.7 apg), assist/turnover ratio (1.04) and three-point field goals made (8.48). Lafayette is also second in free throw shooting (73.5%), by just two percentage points, and turnover margin (+1.38). Lafayette is 8-9 in games beginning after 5 p.m., but is 0-4 in afternoon tip-offs. BURKE S EDITION: Brian Burke s weekly journal about basketball and his life as a student-athlete, Burke s Edition, can generally be viewed every Monday at Burke has made six journal entries thus far. In his most recent contribution (Feb. 5), Burke talks about getting back to paractice with the team while also recounting his own version of the blizzard of I started practicing (February 1) and felt pretty good. I am optimistic about playing again this season, but we'll see how it goes. I just need to get stronger and get in shape. Sounds pretty simple. THE LAST AMATEURS: John Feinstein s The Last Amateurs, a book chronicling the Patriot League men s basketball season, spent multiple weeks on the New York Times Bestseller list and has sold over 100,000 copies. The book topped out at No. 14 for the week of Dec. 17. The Last Amateurs was also picked by USA Today as one of the top 100 books of Feinstein has made two appearances on campus for book signings. TEAM INJURY REPORT: Sophomore Greg McCleary is out indefinitely while he recovers from off-season knee surgery. O FOR OVERTIME: The Leopards haven t fared well in their four overtime games, going 0-4 with losses to La Salle (81-78), Marist (82-80) Bucknell (74-71) and most recently Army ( ). The Leopards went 1-1 in overtime in , beating Princeton 70-69, but lost to St. Joseph s in double overtime. LAST GAME LAFAYETTE 62, BUCKNELL 60 FEB. 7, 2001 DAVIS GYMNASIUM 21 LEWISBURG, Pa. Frank Barr sank a five-footer with 3.2 seconds left to give Lafayette a win over Bucknell. The win avenges an overtime loss to Bucknell earlier in the season, and gives the Leopards their third straight win in Lewisburg. Bryan Bailey tied the game at on a pair of free throws at :32. Lafayette took its time on the final possession, eventually getting the ball to Barr who connected for the game-winner. Lafayette trailed at the break, but rattled off a 16-4 run to begin the second period. Barr led the attack with eight points in the stretch that gave Lafayette a lead at 15:23. Lafayette held the lead for the next 10 minutes, but a Bailey three gave the Bison a advantage at 5:15. A second Bailey three at 2:51 had BU in front, Lafayette answered with one of its nine three-pointers, this one from Tim Bieg, and then tied the game at on a pair of free throws by Justin DeBerry. On Lafayette s next possession, Barr had a dunk attempt blocked, but got the rebound and dunked it home for a lead with 1:02 remaining. Bailey was fouled on the next possession, setting up his game-tying free throws, which were then followed by Barr s heroics. Barr finished with a team-high 16 points, 14 of which came in the second half. DeBerry added 11 points and Bieg pitched in with 10. In addition to his game-high 20 points, Lalugba had a team-high nine rebounds for the Bison. 5 WEEKLY RADIO SHOW: Lafayette Sports Weekly, a comprehensive half-hour radio show will air live each Thursday at 7:00 p.m. from September through March on the Lafayette Sports Network s flagship radio station, WEST AM 1400 and on the world wide web at WEST-AM s Jack Logic will be joined each week by either Gary Laubach or John Leone, Lafayette Sports Network s television commentators, for an exciting half-hour devoted exclusively to Lafayette sports. 6 WHERE OLD, RECENT NOTES GO TO DIE A GAME THAT HAD EVERYTHING (Jan. 27): Lafayette s overtime loss vs. Army set some records. It was the first time since Dec. 10, 1997 that the Leopards managed to score 100 or more points It was also the first time since Dec. 12, 1976 that Lafayette and its opponents combined for more than 200 points, scoring 207 That 207 point total is the second most ever scored at Kirby Sports Center, missing the record by just a point Army s Chris Spatola scored 43 points, the most ever at Kirby Sports Center. Spatola s mark eclipsed Todd Tipucka s 42-point effort vs. St. Joseph s on Dec. 3, MILESTONES (Jan. 24): Lafayette s victory over Holy Cross was win No in the program s 91 seasons. It also marked Fran O Hanlon s 90th career win. SENIOR NIGHT (Jan. 24): It was an unofficial senior night in Wednesday s win over Holy Cross. Apparently, the Lafayette senior class had enough of losing at home. The night started off with Nash Ablo getting his first career start. Ablo made several strong defensive plays and was an emotional spark for the team. The rest he left up to his fellow seniors, and they responded. Tyson Whitfield (24 pts.), Frank Barr (21 pts.) and Tim Bieg (18 pts.) combined for 63 points, four shy of Holy Cross team total. Barr and Whitfield took care of the rebounding with eight and seven rebounds, respectively, and Bieg handled the defense with six steals. U.S.S. FARRELL (Jan. 24): Not only has Mike Farrell taken over for Nate Klinkhammer at the power forward spot, but he also wears the biggest shoe on the team. Farrell dons a size 17 New Balance. Klinkhammer wore a size 18. HAPPINESS IS A WARM GUN (Jan. 24): Senior center Frank Barr had the hot hand vs. Penn on Jan. 19. Barr took the ball right at Penn s strong inside presence of Ugonna Onyekwe and Geoff Owens to score a game-high 23 points. Barr went (63%) from the field, including a 7-9 performance in the second half. GETTING THE START (Jan. 17): Freshmen Ben Saxton and Mike Farrell earned the first start of their careers vs. Bucknell on Jan. 13. Saxton, who was coming off a career-high 16-point performance vs. Lehigh, followed it up with 15 points and five rebounds while starting in place of Reggie Guy. Farrell too, turned in a solid performance in his inaugural start, scoring eight points, while grabbing seven rebounds. Two other freshmen, Rob Dill and Justin DeBerry, have played in 22 games combined. HOME WIN STREAK ENDS AT 17 (Jan. 13): Lafayette s streak of 17 straight wins at home came to an end on Jan. 10 vs. Lafayette s archrival. The Leopards, who had notched wins over Albright, Columbia, Princeton and Scranton, are 4-1 at home this season. Lafayette went 14-1 at home in The Lafayette record for most consecutive wins at home is 26, accomplished in the , and seasons. MUSIC MEN (Jan. 10): Lafayette most likely has one of the most musically-talented teams in the country. Junior guard Drew Dawson s talents extend beyond the classroom and the hardwood. The Camp Hill, Pa. native provided some soothing tunes on the Leopards lengthy trip to California. On the bus after a practice, Dawson breathed life into his harmonica and later showed off his piano-playing talents at the hotel restaurant with a post-dinner performance. Dawson also played the cello in his youth. Freshman forward Mike Farrell is a pianist with classical training. Freshman guard Winston Davis was an accomplished drummer in high school. The Lafayette coaching staff is not without musical talents, as Head Coach Fran O Hanlon plays the piano and banjo and assistant coach Pat Brogan plays the piano. No word yet if Ben Saxton has ever hoisted a saxophone. BREAK OUT FOR SAXTON (Jan. 10): Freshman Ben Saxton picked one of the biggest home crowds of the season for his breakout game. The freshman guard from Walker Valley, N.Y. scored all of his career-high 16 points in the first half vs. Lafayette s archrival. Even more impressive was that his performance came in just 10 minutes of action off the bench. The 6-5 lefthander has made the most of his opportunities, hitting nine of 11 field goals attempts (82%) and five of six three-pointers (83%). Saxton is also 5-7 from the line (72%). TYSON WHITFIELD PLAYER OF THE WEEK (Jan. 3): Senior co-captain Tyson Whitfield was named the Patriot League Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. Jan 2. The conference player of the week honor is the second for Whitfield in his career. Whitfield averaged 25 points and five rebounds, and was named to the all-tournament team in leading the Leopards to a 1-1 record at the Golden Bear Classic in Berkeley, Calif. He started with a career-high 30-point performance, including a school-record eight three-pointers, in an overtime loss vs. LaSalle, then followed with 20 points and six boards in a win over Yale. Whitfield s 17th point against Yale, which came on the first of two free throws late in the second half, made him the 33rd player in Lafayette basketball history to reach the 1,000-point plateau for his career. 2001: A SAN FRANCISCO ODYSSEY (Jan 4.): What began as a five-day trip to Berkeley, Calif. for the Golden Bear Classic turned into an extended road odyssey. Five day road trip -- eight days. Lafayette left for its tournament at the Univ. of California on Dec. 27 and was scheduled to return to Easton on Dec. 31. However, because of the winter storm that hit the Northeast and altered travel plans for thousands, Lafayette was forced to stay in San Francisco until Jan. 2 when the first Continental flight was available for the travel party of 22. Lafayette made the 3,000 mile journey to Newark International Airport on Jan. 2 and a bus took the team directly to Poughkeepsie where the team arrived at the hotel at 3 p.m. The lengthy trip ended at 12:30 p.m. when the team arrived at Kirby Sports Center following the Marist game. RECORD-BREAKING TEAM EFFORT (Dec. 11).: Lafayette hit a school-record 18 three-pointers at Fordham to set a new single-game record for three-pointers. Tyson Whitfield connected for six trifectas while Brian Burke added five and Reggie Guy three The mark is the second most in the nation this season, second only to Northern Arizona s 20 long-range bombs vs. Cal Poly on Dec. 2. BRIAN BURKE PLAYER OF WEEK (Dec. 18): Brian Burke (Philadelphia, Pa.) was named the Patriot League Player of the Week on Dec. 18. The honor was the first ever for the Leopards sixth man. Burke scored a career-high 24 points to lead Lafayette vs. Fordham on Dec. 11. The game was the Leopards only contest of the week due to finals, and pitted them vs. a 6-1 Rams squad that was fresh off a win over then nationally-ranked St. John s. Burke hit five three-pointers and went 8- for-11 (73 percent) from the field on the night. He also dished out four assists and added four rebounds in a solid all-around effort. TAKING THEM FOR THE TEAM (Dec. 6): Lafayette put on a free throw shooting exhibition vs. Princeton. The Leopards made 25 of 26 free throws, the lone miss by Frank Barr trying to complete a three-point play after a dunk. The Leopards hit in the final 3:32 to seal the game. For the season, Lafayette is shooting 76 percent from the line. FRANK BARR PLAYER OF THE WEEK (Dec. 4): Frank Barr was named the Patriot League Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 4. Barr led Lafayette to a 2-1 week with wins over Columbia and

7 PRESEASON NOTES BURIAL GROUND Albright. He dropped in a career-high 22 points on a performance from the field vs. Columbia. Barr, who also finished with seven rebounds, was an integral part of a decisive 22-0 second half run. Barr was also up to the challenge versus an athletic Rider team. He posted his first double-double of the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds. FRANK BARR PLAYER OF WEEK (Nov. 19): Frank Barr was named the Patriot League Player of the Week for Nov. 19. Barr scored 16 points to lead all Lafayette scorers in a win at Cornell on Nov. 18 in the Leopards season opener. Barr showed his shooting touch down the stretch, scoring five points in a 12-0 run that broke a tie and sealed the game for Lafayette. Barr also went 6-7 from the line. Equally impressive was his defensive play, as he blocked six shots and pulled down six rebounds. the honor consecutively in and Time will tell if Tyson Whitfield, Tim Bieg or Frank Barr have a shot at making it four in a row. BOMBS AWAY: It s safe to say that three-point shooting has been an integral part of Lafayette s offense since Fran O Hanlon took over. The past three seasons, Lafayette squads have set team single-season records for three-pointers. Lafayette hit 238 three s in to break the mark of 207 which broke the mark of 187 which broke the record of 147. The Leopards hit a record 249 three s in STEADY IMPROVEMENT IN THE O HANLON ERA: When Head Coach Fran O Hanlon took over the team beginning with the season, he inherited a 2-25 team. Since then, he has steadily built the Leopards into a championship program ; ; ; ; A THREE-PEAT?: Repeating as Patriot League champions in and advancing to the NCAA Tournament was not an easy proposition for Lafayette, but the Leopards became the first team to accomplish the feat since Colgate in and No Patriot League team has ever gone to the NCAA Tournament in three-straight seasons. The Leopards have won three straight Patriot League regular-season titles, but lost to Navy in the conference tournament championship game in following a 19-9 season. O CAPTAINS MY CAPTAINS: Seniors Tim Bieg and Tyson Whitfield are the team captains for the season. Bieg and Whitfield were elected to the leadership role in a vote by the players. Bieg has been an unnamed captain of the offense for three seasons, running the team from the point guard position. He and Whitfield will be looked to for major offensive and defensive contributions in addition to their leadership duties. YOUR ATTENDANCE PLEASE: Lafayette fans have led the Patriot League in home and overall attendance the last three seasons. In , Lafayette averaged 2,474 fans at home and 4,070 in all games. An average of 2,525 watched home games in and 3,196 for all games. The biggest game of the season saw over 4,021 people jam into the 3,500- seat Kirby Sports Center to witness an win over Navy in the Patriot League Tournament championship game on March 10. Lafayette boasted eight home games with over 2,000 fans and five home games in which Lafayette drew over 3,000. The largest crowd of the season came in Lafayette s NCAA Tournament first-round game vs. Temple, where 19,357 fans walked through the turnstiles at HSBC Arena in Buffalo, N.Y. TOURNAMENT ATTENDANCE: Lafayette College and the Allan P. Kirby Sports Center welcomed 16,131 fans to the 2000 Patriot League Basketball Tournament, the second highest attendance mark in the nine years of the tournament. The attendance was topped only by the 1998 Patriot League Tournament held at Navy, to which 18,873 fans attended. That tournament was held in Alumni Hall which houses 5,710 fans in contrast to 3,700 seats in place for the Patriot League Tournament at Lafayette. For the third straight season, Lafayette led the Patriot League in attendance with an average of 4,070 fans per game for all games and 2,474 per home contest. A PAIR OF 20s: Lafayette is coming off consecutive 20-win seasons. Last season, Lafayette set a school record with 24 wins (24-7). In , Lafayette rolled off 22 wins (22-8). The back-toback 20 win seasons were the first since and CUTTING THE RIBBON: Kirby Field House, the Leopards home since 1973, was dedicated as the new Allan P. Kirby Sports Center in June. The 27-year old structure underwent $2.5 million in renovations and received a tremendous facelift. It also saw the addition of a $24 million, 110,000 square-foot intramural and recreational sports facility. PLAYER OF THE YEAR-PART FOUR?: Lafayette has been blessed over the last three seasons. Each of those Leopard squads featured the Patriot League Player of the Year. In , Stefan Ciosici won the award, followed by Brian Ehlers who captured PRESEASON POLL: Despite winning back-to-back-to-back Patriot League regular-season titles and returning three starters from last year s squad, Lafayette was not burdened by the heavy weight of expectation that came with the season. The Leopards were picked by all of the major trade publications to finish second to Navy in the Patriot League race. 9 LAFAYETTE 72, CORNELL 62 NOV. 18, 2000 NEWMAN ARENA ITHACA, N.Y. Lafayette opened its season with a road win over Cornell. Four players scored in double figures for Lafayette, led by 16 from Frank Barr who also grabbed six boards and blocked six shots. Tim Bieg picked up his scoring in Tyson Whitfield s absence, netting 14 points while snatching a career-high seven rebounds. After a Mick Kuberka three at 12:03, Lafayette rattled off an 11-5 run over the next six minutes to take a nine-point lead. Kuberka, who capped the run with another trey, finished with a career-high 10 points. Cornell put together an 11-2 run, as Ka Ron Barnes accounted for seven points in the stretch that tied the game at at halftime. In the second half, it was more of the same. Lafayette managed to take an eight-point lead at 15:00, when Brian Burke stole a pass and laid it in to put LC up Burke finished the game with 13 points and a career-high 11 assists. Lafayette still led by eight at 12:00, but Cornell sliced the lead to one by 10:28. Down the stretch, Lafayette s free throw shooting was the difference. Burke, who went 9-10 from the line for the night, hit all four of his shots in a key five-minute stretch that gave the Leopards their biggest lead (12)and sealed the game. Lafayette battled with a feisty Alrbight squad to eventually claim and victory in the Leopards home opener. After Albright jumped out to a 6-0 lead, Lafayette came back with a 15-2 run, started by a three-pointer by Tim Bieg, to go up 15-8 with 13:38 left in the half. The Lafayette lead grew to over the next two minutes but with 5:28 before the break, Albright was able to cut the lead back down to five at off a pair of free throws. The Leopards managed to quell the late first half Albright surges to take a 10-point lead at halftime. In the second half, Mark Moritz s three at 15:00 brought Albright within five, but that was as close as the Lions would get. Lafayette looked to Bieg and Brian Burke for back-toback threes and proceeded to cruise to 21-point win. Bieg finished with a career-high 21 points. Providing a lift off the bench was shooting specialist Burke who went 5-for-5 from long range and finished the night with a career-high 17 points. Tyson Whitfield, playing in his second game back from injury, nailed three shots from behind the arc and ended with nine points and six rebounds. The Lions were led by Terrence Skyrm s 19 points. (AP) Rutgers' Todd Billet tied a school record with eight 3-pointers and scored a career-high 36 points as the Big East s Scarlet Knights beat Lafayette Billet s biggest points came in the final 1:07 when he hit a 3-pointer and scored four other points as Rutgers (2-0) held off Lafayette (1-1) down the stretch. Billet shot 10 of 20, including 8 of 15 from three-point range. He was also 8 of 10 from the free-throw line. Reggie Guy had a careerhigh 16 and Brian Burke added 14 and seven assists for Lafayette, which went out to a 7-0 lead to begin the game. Frank Barr hit a shot a made two free throws to pull Lafayette within five with less than a minute to play before Billet hit two foul shots and a basket to seal the game for Rutgers. Lafayette overcame a nine-point deficit to come back for a win over Columbia. The Lions seemed to control the game from the tipoff, running up on the Leopards at 5:00 in the first. The Leopards cut the lead to five points on a pair of free throws by Tim Bieg with 44 seconds left in the half, but a field goal by Egan Hill gave Columbia a seven-point advantage going into the locker room. Lafayette opened the second half on a 22-0 run, fueled by a steal by Burke and a Frank Barr basket, to go up with 13:00 remaining. The Leopards never trailed again in the contest. Tyson Whitfield hit consecutive three pointers during the Lafayette 22-0 second half run as the senior co-captain finished with 13 points on the night. Barr, who was the game s leading scorer with a careerhigh 22 points in the paint, also managed five blocks. Burke went a perfect 6-for-6 from the line to finish with eight points and six assists. Forward Rob Worthington added seven points and a careerhigh nine rebounds in the victory. Leading the scoring for the Lions was forward Joe Case who netted 21 points on 8-for-17 shooting. Keith Sellers scored 20 points, leading four double-figure scorers, as St. Peter s edged Lafayette, Sellers scored eight of his second-half points in the last 2:30, as Saint Peter s held off a late charge. Three other St. Peter s starters scored in double figures. Tim Bieg scored 16 points to lead the visiting Leopards, while Frank Barr added 14 points. The win for St. Peter's was its first under new coach Bob Leckie and it also broke a 16-game losing streak. Lafayette led early, 9-8, after Rob Worthington made a free throw with 15:02 left in the first half. But, Sellers scored on a tip-in 14 seconds later and St. Peter s never trailed again. The game was tied one more time, 19-19, with 8:15 left in the first half, before St. Peter s scored 12 unanswered points over the next 2:30, capped by back-to-back three-point baskets by Devonish and Orr. Leading at the half, 40-30, St. Peter s was never able to get its second-half lead above 11 points. Lafayette twice cut the margin to three points, 53-50, on a three-point basket by Mick Kuberka with 10:26 left and 72-69, on a pair of free throws by Brian Burke with 30 seconds left, but St. Peter s responded with two points on the next possession each time. After Burke cut the deficit to 72-69, the Leopards quickly fouled Sellers, who made two free throws with 29 seconds left. Rider used a 50 percent second half shooting effort and a run to open the half to go on to a win over Lafayette. The run erased Lafayette s four-point halfitme lead and was part of a bigger effort in which Rider outscored Lafayette to take a lead. The run included five Rider three-pointers and ended with consecutive three-pointers by Mike Wilson, the second coming at 12:31. Lafayette managed to cut the second-half lead to four on three different occasions, the final coming with six minutes left in the game, when Frank Barr connected for both ends of a 1-and-1. Barr finished with 19 points and 11 boards, his first double-double of the season. Down the stretch, Rider sealed the game with free throws, making all of its final seven attempts. Five players scored in double figures for Rider led by 20 points from Jon McClark and 17 from Wilson. Tyson Whitfield equalled McClark s game-high with a season-high 20 point effort.
