3 CHAMPIONSHIP SITE: The 2011 Summit League Women s Soccer Championship will take place November 4 th and 6 th at the OU Soccer Field in Rochester, MI on the campus of Oakland University. FACILITY INFORMATION: The OU Soccer Field is located in a valley southeast of Oakland University s Athletics Center in the middle of campus. The field surface is one of the best soccer surfaces in the Midwest. It is naturally enclosed on three sides by a grass berm to create a true stadium atmosphere. Metal bleachers sit atop the west berm along with grass seating to accommodate up to 1,500 spectators. The field is 120 yards x 76 yards of densely rooted Class A Kentucky bluegrass. A cross field drainage system, guaranteed to drain a minimum of three inches per day and a separate storm drain with catch basins is located on both sides of the field to collect any additional run-off from the berm. The field is equipped with a remote control irrigation system with gear driven pop-up style sprinklers. TEAM PARKING: Buses and team vans are asked to park adjacent to the lower playing fields and next to the OU Sports Bubble (indoor practice facility) in Lot 13. If teams choose to utilize a locker room in the Athletics Center, buses or vans may drop the team off in Lot 17 at the back loading dock of the Athletics Center and then proceed to park in Lot 13. Spectators are encouraged to park in the parking structure on the west side of the soccer field off of Pioneer Road. LOCKER ROOMS: Locker rooms are available by request in the Oakland University Athletics Center. If you would like to arrange for use of a locker room for games or practice, please contact Elisabeth Putnam at (248) prior to your arrival on Oakland University s campus. Towels and soap will be provided when locker rooms are utilized. There will be a tent available for each team behind the benches for use during pregame, halftime and postgame. Each tent will be equipped with a dry erase board, 25 chairs and an eight-foot table, cups and water. LAUNDRY SERVICE: Complimentary laundry service can be provided by calling Elisabeth Putnam at (248) Please arrange your laundry need with Elisabeth by Thursday, November 3 rd at noon. If you choose to have practice gear laundered, please provide loops, bags or pins for your team. CHAMPIONSHIP HEADQUARTERS HOTEL INFORMATION: The designated headquarter hotel for the 2011 Women s Soccer Championship will be the Crowne Plaza Hotel located in Auburn Hills, MI, located just two miles from the campus of Oakland University. The team rate for either a double or king room will be $89. This rate is subject to applicable state and local taxes in effect at the time of check out. 3

4 The reservation cut-off date is Tuesday, November 1, Any rooms not reserved by this date will be released for general sale. Any reservation requests after this time are based upon availability and at prevailing rates. COACHES MEETING: A Championship meeting for head coaches will be held at 9:00pm, following the Championship Banquet, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The Summit League Championship liaison will chair the meeting. Additional meeting attendees will include representation from Officials, Sports Information, Sports Medicine, Event Management, and Championship Management. CHAMPIONSHIP BANQUET: The 2011 Women s Soccer Championship Banquet will be held from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at the headquartered hotel, Crowne Plaza Auburn Hills. The dress code for the banquet will be business casual, no sweats or shorts. If you have additional travel party members above the permissible number planning to attend the banquet, please contact Mike O Heir, Coordinator of Business Operations at (248) to RSVP and arrange payment for their tickets by November 1, HOSPITALITY: The hospitality tent will be located on the north end zone of the competition field. This tent is for Administrators, Coaches and working staff for the Championships. Snack food, hot chocolate, coffee and water will be provided during competition. MEDICAL AND TRAINING SERVICES: The Athletic Training Room is located in room 116 on the second floor of the Athletics Center. The hours of operation are 9:00am to 6:00pm, Monday through Friday. Please contact Brianna Moyer at (248) to make any additional arrangements. Teams traveling without a Certified Athletic Trainer are required by Summit League bylaw to bring a written request for treatment of a student-athlete. For athletes receiving additional treatments outside of ice and hot packs, the written request should include a list of desired treatments. Special treatment and taping instructions should be included in the written request. The following modalities will be available in the athletic training room: hot and cold whirlpools, Rich-Mar VI with ultrasound and galvanic stimulation, Rich-Mar TheraMini Combo 3P, hydrocollator packs, Chattanooga Laser, Bio/Cryo compression Unit and ice. 4

5 In each team s locker room, the following will be available: water cooler and cups, ice bags, hydrocollator, Taping/treatment table. The official team party may include up to 28 persons (student-athletes, coaches, mangers, trainers, etc.). The official team party count does NOT include Administrators. Please list individuals who represent your institution s team party. For the league championship, the host team shall be limited to the same number of entrants permitted for travelling teams. If the host team or a traveling team opts to have additional student athletes and/or staff present, the following guidelines shall apply: 1. Additional members are permitted to attend practices. 2. Institutions may purchase tickets for additional members to attend the Championship Banquet. The Host must be contacted prior to the Championship with additional numbers. 3. Additional members will not be credentialed. However, additional student-athletes will be permitted on the field/court/etc. during warm-ups but must move to the stands prior to precontest introductions. 4. Any additional travel party members must purchase tickets (if tickets are being sold). Studentathletes are allowed in the bench areas during warm-up only. Coaches above and beyond the travel party limit are not permitted in the bench area prior to or during the event 5. Additional travel party members are not permitted to enter the locker room/field/etc. during half-time. 6. Additional travel party members are allowed on the court/field/etc. for the awards ceremony but do not receive individual medallions. They are allowed to be in team pictures. 5

6 The official travel party form will be distributed electronically to the coaches by the league office. The travel party rosters are also available online at Click on the Members link, then the Forms link, and then the Travel Party Rosters Forms link. The completed form must be ed to Assistant Director of Compliance & Administration Matthew Boyer by 12 pm CST on Monday, October 31, PRACTICES: Practice times will be assigned by the Championship Manager in consultation with the League Office. Each team will be limited to one hour on the practice field. If there is a travel conflict, please contact Elisabeth Putnam at (248) or forshier@oakland.edu immediately. Sunday, November 6 Championship Match 12:00pm SOCCER BALL: The official ball for the 2011 Summit League Women s Soccer Championship will be the Nike Seitiro Official Match Ball. OFFICIALS: The supervisor of soccer officials will select Championship Officials in coordination with the League Office. The League Office and/or the official s designee will distribute officiating assignments at the coaches meeting. PLAYING RULES: NCAA Soccer rules shall be used for all championship competition unless modified in any way by League policy. The current edition of the NCAA Soccer Rule Book will be available at the field for all matches. 6

7 GAMES COMMITTEE: The Games Committee shall consist of the Championship Manager, Summit League Administrator, and the Head Referee. If the host institution is involved in an issue to be resolved by the Games Committee, the Championship Manager will recuse him/herself from the discussions. HOME TEAM: The higher seeded team will be the home team and the lower seeded team will be the visiting team. UNIFORMS: The higher seeded team shall wear light jerseys, and the lower seeded team shall wear dark jerseys. All uniforms shall comply with Summit League and NCAA rules. BENCHES: The home team will occupy the south bench and the visiting team will occupy the north bench, with the exception of the home team participating in the championship in which case they will occupy their home bench. Only individuals listed on the official NCAA Soccer Roster Form will be permitted on the team benches. HALF-TIME PROCEDURES: Half-time will last 15-minutes. There will be enclosed tents provided for each team behind their bench equipped with water and a dry-erase board. STARTING LINE-UPS: On Friday, all student-athletes will be announced prior to the matches (World Cup format). The announcements will proceed in this order: visiting team non-starters, visiting team starters, home team non-starters, and home team starters. For Sunday s Championship match, only starters will be announced. PROTOCOL: The following protocol will be followed for the League Championship: (The clock will start one hour before set game time) 60:00 Teams may begin warm-up 20:00 Captains and Officials Meet 10:00 Captains and Officials Meet 10:00 Teams clear the field 9:00 Introduction of players 1. Visiting team non-starters followed by starters and head coach 2. 8 Teams will be provided a minimum of 20 minutes practice time on the competition field prior to their game if the preceding game goes over the allotted time. Teams playing in Match Two on Friday may warm up on one of the practice fields if Match One has gone into overtime. For postseason games, which include conference tournaments and NCAA tournament games, two sudden-victory overtime periods of 10 minutes each shall be played. If the score is still tied, the game shall be recorded as a draw and the tiebreaking procedure of taking kicks from the penalty-kick line or spot, as set forth by the NCAA Soccer Rule Book, shall be used to determine advancement. CHAMPIONSHIP AWARDS: Immediately following the championship match, an awards ceremony will take place on the field. The following awards will be presented: 1. One Team Championship Award 2. One Team Runner-Up Award 3. Eleven Member All-Tournament Team 4. One Championship MVP 5. Championship Medallion for Members of the Official Team Party ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM: The four head coaches in the championship shall select the eleven member all-tournament team by voting for student-athletes from their respective teams. The team will be selected as follows: First-Place Team: Second-Place Team: Semi-Finalist Team: Semi-Finalist Team: 4 All-Tournament Honorees 3 All-Tournament Honorees 2 All-Tournament Honorees 2 All-Tournament Honorees SPECTATOR INFORMATION: Parking: Parking is free for all spectators and everyone is encouraged to park in the parking structure adjacent to the OU Soccer Field. Entrances: Ticket Prices: The spectator entrance is located on the north side of the parking structure behind the spectator bleachers. Spectators should exit the parking structure through the door located in the northeast corner; entrance to the OU Soccer Field will be directly to the right. Admission for the 2011 summit League Women s Soccer Championship is $5 for adults, $3 for youth and $1 for students with ID. All seating is general admission. Merchandise: A limited amount of Championship T-shirts will be available for sale at the championship. Coaches are encouraged to pre-order T-shirts for their teams. $15 short sleeved ($17 for XXL) $17 long-sleeved ($19 for XXL) $30 hooded sweatshirts ($32 for XXL) 8

9 MEDIA SERVICES: The media representative who will be on site each day of the Championship event is Scott Dunford. The press box is located on the east side of the field, between the two team benches. Media seating in the press box will be assigned by the Championship Media Coordinator. Live stats will be available on the Oakland University Athletics website. Each visiting institution should submit media lists to Scott Dunford, (248) or All certified media must contact Scott in order to receive credentials for the Championship. WEB STREAMING: The website will provide web streaming for the entire championship. The cost for this feature will be $7.00 and can be purchased on Oakland University s website. Fans must purchase an all-access monthly subscription for access to all games. There are NO single game prices. SCOUTING DVDS: The Summit League bid document requires that all opponents receive DVD s of its own matches as well as future opponents. These DVDs may not be used for commercial purposes. Oakland University will have a videographer on site to film the contests. Each team will receive a DVD of their semifinal game. Teams that win the semifinal game will have a DVD of their game and the other semifinal game. DVD s will be available at the press box for coaches to pick up approximately 15 minutes following each game. These DVDs may not be used for commercial purposes. CREDENTIALS: Each official team travel party member will be issued a participant credential for the League Championship. Each institution will also receive coach and administrator credentials for those listed on the Official Travel Party List which will gain access into the facility and to the hospitality tent located on the north end of the game field. All credentials will be distributed at the coaches meeting. PHOTOGRAPHY: The Summit League will provide a photographer for the Championship match and the awards ceremony. Copies of photographs will be submitted to the League office and distributed to respective sports information offices. POST-GAME INTERVIEWS: Coaches will be given a ten minute cooling off period before post-game interviews either on the field or in a trailer behind the benches. The Championship Media Coordinator will arrange post-game interviews with the visiting Sports Information Director. If a team travels without a Sports Information Director, the Championship Media Coordinator will work with the head coach directly. Any of the coaches and/or student-athletes requested by the media should be available for interviews. If a team or individual is participating in an awards ceremony, the interview will begin after the presentation of those awards. 9

13 FACILITY EVACUATION PLAN AND MEDICAL EMERGENCIES In the case of inclement weather, guests will be instructed to evacuate the playing field and spectator areas and move towards the parking garage at the far southwest corner of the OU Soccer Field. Announcements will be made over the public address system and weather will be monitored from the press box. Along with certified trainers on site, Oakland University will have at least one team physician at all games in case of an emergency. Injured person(s) can potentially be taken to Crittenton Hospital and/or Beaumont Hospital, just minutes away from campus. 13

Proceed on Meadow Brook Drive until you reach Pioneer Drive. Turn left onto Pioneer Drive and follow the bear paws to the Athletic Facilities on the right side of the road. The single and double rate for the rooms will be $89. Hotel s room rates are subject to applicable state and local taxes in effect at the time of check out. The teams playing in the championship game will be responsible for reserving the team blocks. The cutoff date for reservations will be Tuesday, November 1 st at 12 a.m. At the cutoff date, hotel will review the reservations for the event, release unreserved rooms for general sale and determine whether it will accept reservations based on a space- and rate-available basis at the Oakland University group rate after the cutoff date.
