1 Last Week In Pinkerton Academy Athletics Bowling: Saturday, December 22, 2018 Pinkerton s Astros headed north to Maple Lanes in Claremont to meet with Stevens, Merrimack, Spaulding and Hollis-Brookline. The Astros Varsity team took 5 th seed for the baker rounds with a 2-game standard total of Captain Jason Barton rolled games of 145 and 168, Captain Meghan Slater 115 and 130, Bryant Nourse 124 and 116, Lance Lemieux 161 and 145. While the team struggled with the shot, Harry Michaud was able to find a line to roll two nice games of 222 and 240. Roster member Matthieu Gagnon shot a 132 and 126. Stevens won 1 st seed with an impressive total of 1937, Merrimack 2 nd with 1830, Spaulding 3 rd with 1633 and Hollis-Brookline 4 th with The Hollis-Brookline Cavaliers were defeated by the Astros in the single elimination preliminary baker round 149 to 115. Pinkerton s Astros then faced the Stevens Cardinals in round 1 losing 2 out of 3. Lost the first game 150 to 164, won the second 179 to 169, lost the third 163 to 203. In round 2 the Astros went up against the Merrimack Tomahawks losing 2 out of 3. Lost the first 146 to 182, won the second 192 to 123 and lost the third 176 to 154. Pinkerton earned 2 points for fourth place. Astros JV totaled 1048 for the standard 2 games earning 5 th seed. Memphis Kirkland had games of 113 and 76, Connor Grimard 105 and 96, Jarod Wong 83 and 115, Courtney Crivello 136 and 92, Mike Fiandaca 80 and 175. JV Astros defeated the 4 th seed Spaulding Red Raiders in the preliminary single elimination baker round 126 to 86. The Astros went on to win in round 1 against Merrimack losing the first 170 to 92 but taking games 2 and 3; 142 to 131 and 123 and 97. JV took second place for the day after losing in 2 against Stevens; 120 to 124 and 110 to 155. Saturday, January 5, 2019

2 Pinkerton s Astros hosted the first match of the new year at Strikers meeting Coe-Brown Northwood, Hollis-Brookline and Stevens. The Astros Varsity team took 2 nd seed for the baker rounds with a 2-game standard total of Captain Jason Barton rolled games of 179 and 183, Captain Meghan Slater 126 and 145, Bryant Nourse 147 and 128, Lance Lemieux 162 and 137. Harry Michaud came to bowl, shooting a very impressive 1 st game of 290, starting with a seven pin spare in frame one followed by 11 strikes. Harry then shot 217 for his 2 nd game. Roster member Matthieu Gagnon shot a 152 and 113. The Hollis-Brookline Cavaliers were defeated by the Astros in 2 in round 1 with games of 171 to 105 and taking a close 2 nd game 128 to 126. Pinkerton s Astros then faced the Stevens Cardinals in round 2 losing 2 out of 3; 164 to 256 and 177 to 204. Lost the first game 150 to 164, won the second 179 to 169, lost the third 163 to 203. Pinkerton Varsity earned 9 points for their second place finish behind Stevens. Astros JV had a tough day totaling 976 for the standard 2 games earning 3 rd seed for baker. Connor Grimard had consistent games of 123 and 121, Memphis Kirkland also consistent with 2 games of 90, Courtney Crivello 114 and 100, Mike Fiandaca 73 and 119, Mike Barnard 93 and 81, Colby Wong 96 and a nice 150. JV Astros were defeated in 2 games by Hollis-Brookline 128 to 110 and 138 to 97 in round 1. JV Astros took round 2 in 2 games defeating the Coe-Brown Bears 94 to 89 and 138 to 100. JV finished 3 rd for the day. It also gave them a chance to see what it takes to make it to be a top swimmer in the state. We still have a lot of work to do on our relays to limit false starts and make sure our timing is spot on if we want to be competitive at the state meet. Astro s came first with a , while Bedford totaled a The Astro s were lead by sophomore Isabella Scarpetti, who took first place on balance beam (9.25), floor exercise (9.3) and the All Around with a Scarpetti also took second on bars (8.55), and third on vault (8.8). Senior, Audrey Hill, took first on vault (9.25) and third in the All Around (34.6). Sophomore, Zoe Demers, took second place on floor (9.25) along with third on beam (8.95) and bars (8.45). Junior Captain, Sophia Viger, took second on beam (9.0) and fourth on bars (8.35). Sophomore, Ashley McKinnon, contributed scores on vault and beam. 9 Wednesday, December 19, 2018 Wednesday night found the Astros mat men hosting the perennial state champion Timberlane Owls. In front of a large, energy-filled crowd, the Astros were attempting to end the Owls 166 meet NH win streak, which dates back to In the end, Pinkerton came up short by a score of 40-19, but served notice to the Owls that they will be in contention at year's end. Picking up victories for the Astros were Captains Walker Stinson, with a thrilling overtime victory at 126 pounds, and Robbie Fahey, with 2nd period pin at 220 pounds. Kyle Setzer kept his perfect season going with a major decision at 195 pounds. Jacob Dube (170) and Sterling McLaughlin (182) both picked up decisions to round out the scoring. Everyone put in a great effort, and the coaching staff knows that this team has much left to accomplish. Next up: Varsity will be at the Lowell Holidays Tourney; JVs will be at the Windham JV Tourney. Our next HOME MEET will be Wednesday, January 2nd, vs Salem in the Shepard Gym. JV at 5, Varsity at 6. Thursday, December 27 & Friday, December 28 Varsity: Lowell Holiday Tournament The winter break found the Astros wrestlers travelling to Lowell for their annual trip to the George Bossi Lowell Holidays tournament. In a field of 76 teams from all over New England, the Astros finished in a very strong 7th place, their best finish since the field was expanded above 60 teams. In a grueling 2-day event, Pinkerton ended up with 5 of their 13 wrestlers placing. Earning placing medals for the Astros were David Hammond, 8th at 132 pounds, Tyler MacKiernan, 5th at 152 pounds, Robbie Fahey, 5th at 220 pounds, Kyle Setzer, 3rd at 195 pounds, and Sterling McLaughlin, 2nd at 182 pounds. While all performances at Lowell are notable, special mention needs to be given to Kyle Setzer's performance. He was stunned by an upset in his first match of the tournament and persevered to come all of the way back to take 3rd. In doing so, he had to win his

10 next 8 matches in a row. This accomplishment is a testament to his commitment and conditioning level. Wednesday, January 2, 2019 Varsity:Pinkerton 51 - Salem 25 Following Lowell, the wrestlers were back in action on the first day of school after New Year's; hosting a talented Salem Blue Devils squad in the Shepard Gym. While both teams were dealing with significant absences from their lineups, the Astros came out on top with a solid victory. Picking up wins by pin for Pinkerton were David Hammond, Tyler MacKiernan, Isaac Cohen, Jacob Dube, Dominic Robinson and Nathan Lindquist. Robbie Fahey bumped up to heavyweight to pick up an 8-7 decision, and Walker Stinson and Christian Kuechler both picked up forfeits. Next up for the Astros mat men: The continuation of our long, yellow stretch limo tour of New England high schools with a trip to Bennington, VT for the Mt Anthony Union Tournament on Saturday, January 5th. Saturday, January 6, 2019 Varsity: Mt. Anthony Invitational The Astros continued their tour of New England gymnasiums on Saturday, with a 3 hr trip to the Mt Anthony Tourney in Bennington, VT. When the dust settled on a long day, Pinkerton had finished 2nd to the host MAU. Jesse Ames was a standout on the boards and the defensive end. JV: Pinkerton 46 - Portsmouth 34 The JV Girls Basketball team picked up a solid win over the Portsmouth JV Basketball team. Casey Ames lead the team with 13 points and Amelia Hosken played excellent defense with several steals. Freshmen: Portsmouth 41 - Pinkerton 40 The Freshmen GIrls Basketball team lost in a hard fought game against Portsmouth. 17 The JV Girls Basketball team beat Dover Wednesday evening. Makenzie Deluca led the team with 13 points. Friday, January 4, 2019 Varsity: Pinkerton 65 - Salem 35 The Lady Astros beat Salem to remain undefeated in DI. It was an absolute team effort tonight on both ends of the court. Teamwork makes the dream work. JV: Pinkerton 55 - Salem 20 The JV Girls Basketball team beat Salem Friday Evening Abby Marasco played solid defense all game and came away with 11 points. Kristina Packowski chipped in 8 points as well. Freshmen: Pinkerton 42 - Merrimack 20 Freshman Girls Basketball came out strong on Friday night, routing Merrimack High School in a strong defensive stand at home to improve to 3-1 on the season. Maggie Brown led the team in scoring with 12 points, while Rain Keefe and Aniah Gutierrez, as well as the rest of the team, fought hard on defense to bring home the win. Sunday, January 6, 2019 JV: Bedford 3 - Pinkerton 1 Boys JV Ice Hockey team lost Sunday night to Bedford 3 to 1. PA goal scored by Jake Masterson on a penalty shot. Make-up game with Bishop Guertin was played on Thursday afternoon Dec 27 and teams skated to 1-1 tie. Girls Ice Hockey Saturday, January 5, 2019 Saturday the Girls Ice Hockey team lost to Bishop Guertin 9-8. Molly Fahey scored a hat trick.

18 Boys Ice Hockey: Wednesday, December 19, 2018 Varsity: Pinkerton 6 - Bishop Brady 0 Pinkerton defeated Bishop Brady last night, 6-0. First period goal scorers were Aidan Price (first varsity goal) assisted by Patrick Last, and Mason Drouin assisted by Gennaro Marra. Second period goal scorer was Ethan Burgess assisted by Patrick Last and Aidan Price. Third period goal scorers were Patrick Last assisted by Jonathan Last, Brendon Banks (unassisted), and Ethan Burgess assisted by Patrick Last. Dakota Robinson earned the shutout with 14 saves. Wednesday, January 2, 2019 Varsity; Pinkerton 5 - Concord 0 Pinkerton moved to 5-0 on the season with a 3-1 win over previously undefeated Concord. The two teams were evenly matched and scoreless after one period. Pinkerton went on the board first with a second period powerplay goal by Hunter Drouin, assisted by Ethan Burgess. The Astros increased the lead in the third with an unassisted powerplay goal by Mason Drouin early in the period. Jonathan Last added a third goal about four minutes into the period with an assist from Brendon Banks. Concord was able to net one late in the third on a powerplay goal with their goalie pulled, but Pinkerton held on for the win. Dakota Robinson had 40 saves in the victory. 19 Pinkerton earned its sixth win with a 6-0 victory over Bow on Saturday, January 5. Scoring opened with a goal late in the first by Gennaro Marra, assisted by Hunter Drouin and Ethan Burgess. Joseph Marra scored the second goal with assists by Ethan Livingston and Shawn Tewksbury. Two more goals were added in the second period. Mason Drouin from Aidan Price, and Mason Drouin by Gennaro Marra and Aidan Price. Patrick Last scored in the third from an assist by Ethan Burgess. And Hunter Drouin scored the last goal for the Astros with an assist by Ethan Burgess. Matt Gilliland had 9 saves in the win for the Astros. Sunday, January 6, 2019 Varsity: 2nd place The Pinkerton girls track team competed in the afternoon session at UNH against seven other scoring teams and placed second. The meet started with a 4x800 where Nolan Preble, Steve Groulx, Ethan Desmaris and Jeff Mize fought Concord to the line to take second place.

21 In the hurdles, Conor Seleny took down Adam Spencer in the lean for the first time ever to win the event (see photo) In the dash, sophomore Pat Cotnoir took his first ever victory in a three way battle to the line that included teammate Ryan Dane who was third. In the 1000, senior Joe Gagnon sprinted to victory just ahead of teammate Nolan Preble who took third. The 600 saw a great race from Ethan Desmaris who took a second place with a strong last lap. Teammate Terry Coyle fought off a group to take third. In the 300, Conor Seleny ran his best 300 of the season to take a second place. Pinkerton also took 4th and 5th on strong efforts from Pat Cotnoir and Ryan Dane. In the 1500, Pinkerton saw great races from Nathan Steiger, Zach Aham and Steve Groulx who took 3rd, 4th and 5th. The 4x400 relay was won when Conor Seleny unloaded on the last lap to take the lead with 50m left, never looking back. Teammates Ryan Dane, Ben Fleming, and Adam Spencer all ran strong legs as well. In the field events, Aidan Thomas had huge PR to take a fifth place. In the high jump, Matt Small tied his seasons best to take a second place and Adam Spencer was just below in third. The long jump saw some great placing from second place Joron Harrell, third place Ryan Dane and fourth place Pat Cotnoir. The boys will be back at UNH next Sunday to continue their strong season. 22 The Pinkerton boys track team traveled to UNH this Sunday and came away victorious scoring 100 points to outpace second place Bedford who had 51. Pinkerton started out the day with strong runs from Zach s Aham and Nathan steiger who placed 3rd and 6th. Adam Spencer continued his excellent senior season in the hurdles to capture the victory and teammate Conor Seleny was close behind to take second. The dash saw Ryan Dane continue his excellent season taking a second place and rookie senior JeanFranco cholidis taking 3rd in his best run of the season. Nolan Preble had a huge improvement in the 1000 to take a 4th place and Ethan desmaris was close behind in 6th. Jeff Mize looked strong in the 600 to take 3rd place. The 300 saw a huge improvement for Conor Seleny to take 2nd place with teammates Adam Spencer and Ryan Dane coming in 3rd and 4th. The 1500 saw a season best for Joe Gagnon who took 3rd in a very competitive race. The long jump was a huge strength for the team today with Ryan Dane breaking 20 feet for the first time ever to take 2nd place. Teammates Joron harrell, Pat cotnoir and JR Rosario taking 3rd, 4th and 5th place. Aidan Thomas had another solid day in shotput to take a 6th place. Matt Small jumped an all time best 6 1 to win the high jump and take the lead for division I. The relays both took wins in their fastest times of the season! The 4x400 of Jeff Mize, Ethan Desmaris, Adam Spencer and Nolan Preble took 2 seconds off their best time in their win. The 4x160 team of JR Rosario, Pat Cotnoir, Ryan Dane and Conor Seleny ran the fastest time in NH this year to finish out the meet. Next week the team travels to the Dartmouth Relays where they hope getting on the fast track will help them run some season best times.
