Spokane will have their hands full as the Silvertips are coming off two wins on the road against the conference-leading Prince George Cougars on Tuesday (4-0) and Wednesday night (6-3). Spokane split their two-game road trip during the week, winning 3-1 at Seattle on Tuesday before dropping a 6-1 contest in Kamloops on Wednesday. Goalie Dawson Weatherill stole the show with 44 saves on his way to 1 st Star honors against the Thunderbirds, while Pavel Kousal scored his second career goal and Kailer Yamamoto scored the GWG for his 4 th tally of the season. The Chiefs fell flat on Wednesday, however, allowing 6 goals in the first two periods against the Blazers. Spokane actually opened the scoring only 2:20 into the first with a power play goal from Jaret Anderson-Dolan, but couldn t muster much after that. The penalty kill continued to struggle, allowing two goals in three shorthanded situations. Keanu Yamamoto extended his point streak with an assist on the Anderson-Dolan goal. Spokane boasts a young group this year, including a new captain (Helgesen) for the first time in two years as defenseman Jason Fram held the title for the and seasons. They ll need to find a replacement on offense for Dominic Zwerger, last year s leading goal scorer (27) who was traded to Everett early this season. Potential contributors to fill that gap include: Anderson-Dolan, in his sophomore campaign after being named the team s Rookie of the Year last year; Ethan McIndoe, who scored eight goals in 62 GP as a 16-year-old; Kousal and Ondrej Najman, the Chiefs two new European import players who both hail from the Czech Republic and played with the Czech national team. The Chiefs do retain three of their top four scorers from a season ago in Kailer Yamamoto ( in 57 GP), Keanu Yamamoto ( ) and Markson Bechtold ( ). Carolina Hurricanes 3 rd -round pick Elynuik ( in 55 GP) will also be a difference maker. Third-year men Evan Fiala ( , 101 PIM, +18) and Helgesen ( ) lead in experience on the back end, with an emerging young group led by 2015 WHL Bantam Draft 1 st -overall pick Ty Smith. In goal, Sittler (2.94,.905, 1 SO in 39 GP) looks to be the regular starter with recently-acquired Dawson Weatherill as backup. TONIGHT S OFFICIALS --- Referees: Mike LANGIN, Shane WARSHAW --- Linesmen: Jeremi DEL CAMPO, Dustin MINTY
