9 Rockets vs. T-Birds Monday February 13th, 2017 Game Time 2:05 pm Tonight s Preview: The Kelowna Rockets open a four game home stand this afternoon against the visiting Seattle Thunderbirds. This is the third of four meetings this season. The Rockets are in the nd th seasonal series after a 5-1 win in Seattle (October 22 ) and a 6-1 victory (December 7 ) at Prospera th Place. The two teams close out the four game series February 25 at ShoWare Center. The Rockets host Spokane Friday night and the Prince George Cougars on Saturday. The home stand ends Wednesday nd February 22 against the Edmonton Oil Kings. The Rockets have won 5 or their last 6 games and are coming off back-to-back shutouts Friday and Saturday night over the Vancouver Giants. What just happened? Brodan Salmond made 19 saves for his second consecutive shutout in a 5-0 win Saturday night against the Vancouver Giants. Dillon Dube was named the first star with three assists while Erik Gardiner, Kole Lind, Calvin Thurkauf, Lucas Johansen and James Hilsendager scored in the teams 32nd win of the season. The Rockets were 2 for 4 on the power play and failed to surrender a power play goal against in both games against the G-Men. That s a Fact Jack: Brodan Salmond s back-to-back shutouts are the first for a Rockets goalie since Jackson Whistle had two in a row in the 2015 WHL playoffs vs. Tri City. Adam Brown had back-to-back shutouts during the regular season against the Chlliwack Bruins in October of 2008 Nolan Foote became the youngest player in franchise history to score three goals in a game. Foote accomplished the feat Friday against the Giants, scoring those three goals at the tender age of 16 years, 2 months and 12 days. Mathew Barzal had a goal and five assists in game. Ryan Gropp had two goals and assist, Ethan Bear had a goal and three assists and Keegan Kolesar had a goal and two assists. Alexander True had a shorthanded goal, Tyler Adams scored the first goal of the game and Reece Harsch had a goal. Rylan Toth had 29 saves. Joachim Blichfeld had two goals, Skyler McKenzie, Cody Glass and Jake Gricius had single goals. Cole Kehler had 20 saves. T-Birds Sign Cody Savey Seattle Thunderbirds general manager Russ Farwell today announced forward Cody Savey has signed a WHL Standard Player Agreement with the team. Savey, from Campbell River, British Columbia, is playing this season with the West Vancouver Academy Elite 15s in the CSSHL league. Savey has 12 goals and 14 assists for 26 points with 62 penalty minutes in 25 games. Savey is 6 1 and 209 pounds and is a 2001 birth year. He will wear #15 for the T-Birds and could play this week. US Division Standings The T-Birds are currently and in first place in the US Division standings. They are one point ahead the second-place Everett Silvertips, who have one game in hand. The T-Birds are 10 points ahead of the third-place Tri-City Americans with two games in hand. Toth Named Goaltender of the Month The Western Hockey League announced February 1 goaltender Rylan Toth was named the Vaughn WHL Goaltender of the Month for January. Toth, a 20-year-old product of Saskatoon, SK, maintained a record of during the month of January, with a stellar 2.05 goals-against average and.923 save percentage. On two occasions, Toth was called upon to make 35 saves or more, including 38 stops on Friday, January 6, in a 4-3 shootout win versus Everett and another 35 saves on Tuesday, January 24, in a 3-2 overtime win at Spokane. In 11 appearances during the month of January, Toth surrendered two goals or fewer on six occasions, earning third star honors twice.
