1 August 2018 Fair Issue Dear Friends, The 2018 Clayton County Fair is almost here! Be sure to read this special fair issue of the Clover Connection to find club work schedules, judging schedules and other VERY IMPORTANT information to help you get prepared for the Clayton County Fair. It should be a fun & exciting fair this year. We will have a new building to house the swine, sheep and meat goats. The rabbits, poultry and other animals also will have a new home this year. Look for them in Barn A, commonly called the office barn. We have some major schedule changes in the livestock shows on Friday and Saturday. The dairy goat and dairy cattle shows are moving to Friday morning with the goat show at 8 followed by the dairy cattle at 9:30 am. The sheep show moves to 8:30 am in the new show ring the Schulte complex. The meat goat show will follow starting at 10:30. One of the biggest changes is in the beef show. We now will have a 2 day show. Beef showmanship will be Friday at 3 pm with the market animals following. The breeding heifers and cow/calf pairs will be showing on Saturday at 2 pm. The poultry show moves to Saturday morning at 8 am along with the other animal judging at 2 pm and bucket bottle at 2:30 pm. Check out a fair book to see the complete schedule or visit the Clayton County Fair webpage. Make sure you say THANK YOU to all of the volunteers, fair board members, club leaders and FFA advisors who are helping to make the Clayton County Fair a fun and memorable experience. Without the help of these individuals, this opportunity wouldn t be available. See you at the fair! Tammy Muller County Youth Coordinator Ag Olympics is Coming! The County Council is busy planning the annual Clayton County Ag Olympics. It will be held on Sunday, August 5 at 2:30 pm in the large livestock arena. Start recruiting your team members! Join in the FUN! Register your teams by noon on Sunday, August 5 in the 4-H Livestock Office in Barn A during the fair. Cowboy Up at the Clayton County Fair! Stick Pony Rodeo Sponsored by the Clayton County 4-H Foundation Saturday August 4 at 5:00 PM Registration from 4-5 pm Rodeo Arena on the Fairgrounds County Fair Dairy Cows: Milk cannot be marketed from the county fair, therefore lactating cows have the option to be released after the market beef show on Friday night. Exhibitors must inform Extension staff of their intention on Thursday or Friday to remove their cows. Staff will issue a trailer pass to come into the grounds on Friday evening. You will have 30 minutes to load and leave. Do not park your trailer on the grounds. Cows must be off the grounds by 11:00 pm on Friday, August 3. Milk cows do have the option to stay the entire fair. 1
