1 Community Newsletter Week of December 17-21, 2018 A publication of the City of Dodge City Public Information Office 1. City Hall, Municipal Court, and Convention & Visitors Bureau offices will be closed on Monday, December 24, Tuesday, December 25, and Tuesday, January 1 for the holidays. Sanitation services for Dodge City customers will remain as scheduled on the eve holidays. Tuesday routes will be picked up on Wednesday. Make sure that polycarts are placed at the curb by 7:00 am and all trash bagged and securely tied. Public transportation services will close at 1:00 pm on December 24 and 31 and will also be closed all day on December 25 and January 1. CREW will close at 12:00 pm on December 24 and 31 and will also be closed all day on December 25 and January 1. However, the 24-hour bins for drop-off at the recycling center and Civic Center are always available. As a note, gift boxes and wrapping paper are accepted for recycling. The location to dispose of real Christmas trees is just east of the dog park in Wright Park. All decorations, tinsel, stands and plastic covers must be removed. The boards and commissions serve to make city government reflective of the attitudes and beliefs of its residents Applications for the following boards/commissions will be accepted until noon on Friday, December 28th: Airport Advisory Board, Convention & Visitors Bureau (1 representing hospitality, 1 at-large, and 1 representing attractions), Dodge City Planning Commission, Golf Advisory Board, Historic Landmark Commission, Parks & Recreation Advisory Board, Recycling Advisory Board, and the Shade Tree Commission. Applications are available at City Hall, 806 N. Questions regarding the boards/commissions can be directed to Abbey Martin at The Tourism Task Force had their quarterly meeting on Wednesday, December 19. At the meeting, the board approved funding for the Main Street Downtown Improvement Program as well reviewed a variety of other projects including the cemetery storyboard sign. Updates were presented by the City Manager, Assistant City Manager, Convention and Visitor s Bureau, Mariah Fund, Ford County Historical Society and Main Street. The next meeting will be in February Historic Tax Credits are available for purchase for the Santa Fe Depot Complex. The credits are available for anyone with Kansas tax liability. Please see the attached flyer for more information.
2 5. The 1600 block of Central Avenue will be opened to the public starting at the Mulberry intersection by 4 pm on Friday, December 21st. A reminder that Central Avenue remains a one-way Northbound street until the completion of the project in On December 27th, the Contractor will close the 1300 Block of Central Ave. and begin demolition work on the block. At this same time the 1200 Block will be closed to through traffic, only residents of the 1200 Block will have access. Shortly after New Year s, the trees on the 1200 Block scheduled for removal will be taken down. Depending upon weather, pavement work will be under away on the 1500 Block after the 27th. 6. City staff attended a construction update meeting with Boot Hill Museum staff, Hutton Construction and GMCN Architects on the Boot Hill Expansion project this week. These meetings will be held monthly and will cover a variety of topics pertaining to the project including safety and security, process on submittals, design items and financial information. The next meeting will be held after the first of the year. 7. Megan Welsh, Tourism Coordinator, with the Dodge City Convention and Visitors Bureau recently attended the Kansas Society of Association Executives (KSAE) Annual Conference in Topeka, Kansas. The KSAE Conference and Expo is an exposure, networking, promotion, and education event geared toward association executives. During the conference, attendees were able to mingle around trade booths to obtain more information regarding destinations, venues, and hotels for their meetings, conferences, and other events. There was also an additional opportunity for one-on-one appointments during the Exchange event where association executives had the opportunity to meet one-on-one with representatives for additional information regarding their location(s). Erica Walsh from the Hampton Inn and Suites was also in attendance, promoting Dodge City. 8. Parks and Facilities staff worked on replacing a broken slide at Farrow Ford Park this week. 9. Forestry and Landscape staff have been busy removing dead trees at Mariah Hills Golf Course and working on stump grinding.

5 Santa Fe Depot Kansas State Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit Opportunity Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credits are now available for purchase for ninety-five (95) cents on the dollar from the Santa Fe Depot Build-out project. To learn more about purchasing the tax credits please see the questions below. Frequently Asked Questions: How can this opportunity benefit my company or me? This represents a 5% discount on your Kansas state income tax. Where does the money generated from my purchase of tax credits go? By purchasing these tax credits you are helping to pay for the build-out of the 2nd and 3rd floors of the historic Santa Fe Depot. How can I use these tax credits? Kansas State Rehabilitation Tax Credits may be used to offset Kansas state income, privilege or premium tax liability but not for tax liablity from other states or on federal taxes. Who is eligle to purchase these tax credits? Any individual or business with Kansas tax liability is eligible. Is there a minimum amount required to purchase the tax credits for this particular project? The minimim amount required to purchase these tax credits is $5,000. Can more than one individual or entity purchase these tax credits? The tax credits may be transferred to numerous entities and may be transferred numerous times. If I cannot use all the tax credits in one year, can they be carried forward? They can be carried over for five years. Where do I get more information?
