January 2004 Page 2 From The President s Desk Hey Cowtown Members, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! I'm really looking forward to 2004. I'm sure we will have another great year!

.. and being sure that you attend the January and February club meetings so you are not nominated for a club office. In all seriousness, please attend as many meetings as you are able.

The Dallas Autorama is February 13-14-15. Just like the last two years, our club has six spaces reserved.

Last year our plan was to have 10-12 cars, and because of bad weather we ended up with six. Since we are a Fort Worth club, I would like to see us try and have a large group (from 10-12).

In our January board meeting we started talking about and planning for our annual car show in April.

2 January 2004 Page 2 From The President s Desk Hey Cowtown Members, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! I'm really looking forward to I'm sure we will have another great year! When a new year starts we think of resolutions, changing the batteries in your smoke detectors, losing that holiday weight, getting fit, getting rich, getting... doing... and being sure that you attend the January and February club meetings so you are not nominated for a club office. In all seriousness, please attend as many meetings as you are able. In the January meeting we will start nominations for this years club officers, and we will vote in our March meeting. As in years past, we start off the new year with two indoor car shows. The Dallas Autorama is February Just like the last two years, our club has six spaces reserved. If you are not one of the first six, it is possible to get other spaces, but they may not be close to the group of six. The Fort Worth Rod & Custom is March Last year our plan was to have cars, and because of bad weather we ended up with six. Since we are a Fort Worth club, I would like to see us try and have a large group (from 10-12). If you are interested in entering your car in either indoor show, please contact me. Congratulations to Bob Carroll for being voted 2003 Car of the Year. In our January board meeting we started talking about and planning for our annual car show in April. It's not too early for everyone in the club to start thinking about and planning for this year's show. Among other things, we will need 10 car show t-shirt sponsors ($200 per sponsorship). We will also need door prizes and volunteers to help with judging, parking, registration... This time of year we always put last year's shirts on sale. We have car show shirts for $5 each, Got Mopar shirts for $10 each, and we still have racing shirts for $20 each. See ya soon Beep Beep! Mark Buchanan Cowtown Mopar's President And The VP Says Hello Club Members Just a reminder to everyone that the car show season is around the corner! The Dallas and Fort Worth shows are coming up real soon. Nominations for next years board member positions are open at the next two club meetings. Be there or you might get nominated for something! We are still looking for volunteers to assist the board members in all areas so step up to the plate and give a hand. After the awards ceremony, all went next door for the meeting, food, and gift exchange. Rick Brownell was recognized for car of the month.

A new event was the recital of member Christmas wishes read by the honorable and quick (no pun there ) witted Gene Quick.

With the approaching winter months, our thoughts need to focus on upcoming officer elections, and our annual April car show. Keep America Beautiful, Drive A Mopar!

The events page is starting to get some entries for this year already so keep an eye on it. The TMCCC website now has it's own message board!

3 January 2004 Page 3 Club Minuets The board of Cowtown Mopar s sincerely hopes all had a safe holiday season. The December monthly meeting was held on Dec. 13th at our sponsor's location, Huffines Dodge. This was a combination of monthly meeting, toy drive and car show. and Christmas party. Approximately 26 vehicles, both member and non- member, were entered for the car show and toy drive. Activities Director Kelly "mom" Hilla served the burgers and dogs on the not so nice day for the event. Some photos are on the web site, including the filled hemi truck with toys. After the routine of cars/trucks and parts for sale and wanted was completed, the 50/50 pot was drawn and won by Tommy Skog. I've only been once since the TMCCC banquet, but I plan to go again real soon. I don't have a complete schedule yet, but we will have 9 races again this year. 8 January 2004 Page 8 And Now For The Funnies The True Purpose for Tools Those of us who do our own mechanical repairs will be able to identify with a number of these Tools. DRILL PRESS: A tall upright machine useful for suddenly snatching flat metal bar stock out of your hands so that it smacks you in the chest and flings your beer across the room, splattering it against that freshly painted part you were drying. HAMMER: Originally employed as a weapon of war, the hammer nowadays is used as a kind of divining rod to locate expensive parts not far from the object we are trying to hit. MECHANIC'S KNIFE: Used to open and slice through the contents of cardboard cartons delivered to your front door; works particularly well on boxes containing seats and motorcycle jackets. ELECTRIC HAND DRILL: Normally used for spinning steel Pop rivets in their holes until you die of old age, but it also works great for drilling mounting holes in mudguards just above the brake line that goes to the rear wheel. PLIERS: Used to round off bolt heads. MOLE-GRIPS: Used to round off bolt heads. If nothing else is available, they can also be used to transfer intense welding heat to the palm of your hand. OXYACETELENE TORCH: Used almost entirely for lighting various flammable objects in your garage on fire. Also handy for igniting the grease inside a brake drum you're trying to get the bearing race out of. WHITWORTH SOCKETS: Once used for working on older British cars and motorcycles, they are now used mainly for impersonating that 9/16 or 1/2 socket you've been searching for, for the last 15 minutes. The Three Kick Rule A big city lawyer went duck hunting in rural Tennessee. He shot and dropped a bird, but it fell into a farmer's field on the other side of a fence. As the lawyer climbed over the fence, an elderly farmer drove up on his tractor and asked him what he was doing. The litigator responded, "I shot a duck and it fell in this field, and now I'm going to retrieve it." The old farmer replied, "This is my property, and you are not coming over here." The indignant lawyer said, "I am one of the best trial attorneys in the United States and, if you don't let me get that duck, I'll sue you and take everything you own. The old farmer smiled and said, "Apparently, you don't know how we settle disputes in Tennessee. We settle small disagreements like this with the "Three Kick Rule." The lawyer asked, "What is the Three Kick Rule?" WIRE WHEEL: Cleans rust off old bolts and then throws them somewhere under the workbench at the speed of light. Also removes fingerprint whorls and hard-earned guitar calluses in about the time it takes you to say, "Ouch..." SNAP-ON GASKET SCRAPER: Theoretically useful as a sandwich tool for spreading mayonnaise; used mainly for getting dog-doo off your boot. E-Z OUT BOLT AND STUD EXTRACTOR: A tool that snaps off in bolt holes and is ten times harder than any known drill bit. TIMING LIGHT: A stroboscopic instrument for illuminating grease buildup. BATTERY ELECTROLYTE TESTER: A handy tool for transferring sulphuric acid from a battery to the inside of your toolbox after determining that your battery is dead as a doornail, just as you thought. PHILLIPS SCREWDRIVER: Normally used to stab the lids of oldstyle paper-and-tin oil cans and splash oil on your shirt; can also be used, as the name implies, to round out Phillips screw recesses. AIR COMPRESSOR: A machine that takes energy produced in a coal-burning power plant 200 miles away and transforms it into compressed air that travels by hose to a Pneumatic impact wrench that grips rusty bolts last tightened 60 years ago by someone in Coventry, and rounds them off. HOSE CUTTER: A tool used to cut hoses 1/2 inch too short. The Farmer replied, "Well, because the dispute occurs on my land, first I kick you three times and then you kick me three times and so on back and forth until someone gives up." The attorney quickly thought about the proposed contest and decided that he could easily take the old codger. He agreed to abide by the local custom. The old farmer slowly climbed down from the tractor and walked up to the attorney. His first kick planted the toe of his heavy steel toed work boot into the lawyer's groin and dropped him to his knees. His second kick to the midriff sent the lawyer's last meal gushing from his mouth. The lawyer was on all fours when the farmer's third kick to his rear end sent him face-first into a fresh cow pie. The lawyer summoned every bit of his will and managed to get to his feet. Wiping his face with the arm of his jacket, he said, "Okay, you old fart. Now it's my turn." The old farmer smiled and said, "Naw, I give up. You can have the duck.

9 January 2004 Page 9 COWTOWN MOPAR OF THE MONTH Jeff Peterson s 1970 Plymouth HEMI Cuda I found this car about four years ago after looking for years for just the right car. I was more interested in Pure Stock drag racing than concours judging with this project so the 426ci V-8 was balanced and blueprinted to NHRA Stock Class specifications. This Cuda also has the Super Track Pack option which includes a 4.10 gearset. This Cuda features Black paint with the unusual H6E4 red interior, Shaker Hood, and a Pistol Grip 4 speed transmission. Although not original it also has a Red Hockey Stick stripe. Last year when the car was completed and after only 40 minutes of engine break-in time I made some shakedown passes at the Pure Stock Muscle Drags. I plan to return this year looking for some high 12 second Ets. Jeff Peterson
