The President s Desk At the March meeting we will be voting on our club officers for the next Cowtown Mopar calendar year, that starts in April. Be there and show your support for the club officers that will lead us through our 20th anniversary. As I mentioned last month all the current club officers were nominated for another year and they all accepted their nomination. All of the non-elected positions were asked to continue in their position and they accepted as well. I hope you take the time to tell your fellow members thanks for their efforts. Cowtown Mopars had 4 cars at the Dallas Autorama and they all got awards. Randy Buntyn-Best in class, Tommy Martinoutstanding in class and Ron Arbelius and Phin Holmes-received Awards in their class. Congratulations and Thanks to all of you for showing your cars! As I peck away at the computer with 2 fingers and wish I would have taken a typing class long ago, Cowtown Mopars has 7 cars at the Ft Worth Rod & Custom show. Thanks to Dave Mandato, Jimmy Box, Bob Graham, Ron Russ, Steve Wiggins, Gene Quick and Voyd Teague for bringing their cars. Thanks to Bernie Powell, Gary Bradshaw and Ginger King for helping in the show. A special thanks to Jim McCutcheon for his help at both shows. March 12th and 13th will be a busy 2 days for Cowtown Mopars. March 12th will be the first joint swap meet with the Dallas Mopar Club and Cowtown Mopars. It will be 11:00am-4:00pm Saturday at fast440 and then we go to Gene's new shop Saturday evening for our first car show/cruise/cookout and whatever we do we always have fun. Then Sunday the first TMCCC series race for 2005 at Kennedale. I hope to see you this weekend more than once. It will be a busy weekend, but how often do you have a chance to shop for Mopar stuff, sell Mopars stuff, cruise in Mopars stuff, race Mopar stuff, all the while eating Mopar hot dogs and burgers and enjoying good Mopar company right in your own back yard. Lets start our 4-peat in the TMCCC series with a BANG!!!!! As all of you know April 9th is the big day for our annual car show. I'm looking forward to another GREAT show and I hope everyone will be a part. And you can - we will have a sign-up sheet at the next meeting that will have something for everyone to do. Please continue to plan for the car show by getting your vehicle ready, spreading the word and gathering goodies for the show. Don't forget the goody bag stuff'n party at Huffines, April 2nd 9:00am. 2 Page 2 From the Vice President From the Webmaster VP... March is here and spring is around the corner. Before you know it our car show will be upon us. Plans are still being made and we need many volunteers to help out at the show. If you can help out, just let any of the board members know. We have plenty of openings! The TMCCC racing season begins in about a week. We have several cars that have had a makeover during the off season and really look good! Frank Smiths Dart wagon is all painted up and you will need sun glasses to look at it in direct sunlight. Steve Wiggin has learned to drive! He has his fresh motor in the car and is driving like a seasoned pro now. Yours truly even splashed a fresh coat of paint on the Kelvinator...it actually looks pretty good driving past. As promised, I have added some new pages to the web site. I am not going to tell you what or where... you have to go look and find them! Alan Vasut is working on a history of the club and as soon as he finishes it all, I will be very busy building a lot of pages to display all of his hard work. I need club members to send me updated photos of their cars and info about them so I can rebuild the members photos pages. We have some very nice cars in the club and I want to display them for the world to see! Mike Miller, Webmaster From the Activities Director The weekend of March 12th 13th is going to be very busy. We start out with the Fast 440.com swap meet that is put on by our club and Dallas Mopar club. For more info about this or directions either check our web site or go to com. Don t stay there too late or you will miss the cruise at Gene Quick Motorsports at 6:00 p.m. at 3214 Friendly Lane in Haltom City. If you need directions to that you can contact me at wedge65@charter.net or any officer. The club is going to furnish the food and we should have a great time as usual. Hopefully, this will replace the cruise at Scotty s on the 2 nd Saturday night of each month, and we can have our own cruise / show. Invite your friends!! The following morning (9am), Sunday, March 13 th, is the first Texas Muscle Car Club Challenge of the 2005 season at Texas Raceway in Kennedale. We need to show up there in force to keep our winning going for the forth year in a row. You don t have to be a big racer to run in the challenge. Just bring what you have even if it is a slow pick-up like mine or even a brand X. It is a bracket race and they have slow classes also. The club is also furnishing food for that also. Come on out and support your Mopars! Remember to keep Saturday, April 9 th free, as we are having our annual car show at Huffines Dodge in Lewisville. This year we are celebrating our Club s 20 th Anniversary!! We have a lot more going on for the year like the joint CMPT / Dallas Mopar club s picnic on May 29 th! The February monthly meeting of the Cowtown Mopars Performance Team held at Billy Bob's Texas in Ft. Worth was called to order at 5:30 by President Mark Buchanan. Many members gathered at the midday time to watch the Daytona 500 in our meeting room. After guests and new members were recognized, the club sign-in sheet, renewals, and announcements got underway. Car of the year trophies were won by Charles Buchanan and Jeff Peterson. The total points ended in a tie for both these great vehicles and owners. Congratulations Charles and Jeff!! Bill Schroeder was awarded the car of the month plaque. President Buchanan then discussed the following upcoming events to the membership, while encouraging any and all to attend: cowtown / Dallas swap meet in Sunnyvale on the 12th, followed by cruise night at Gene quick Motorsports that evening with food and drinks, Dallas car show on April 3rd with the cowtown show the following weekend on the 9th. The goody bag stuffing party will be at our sponsor's location, Huffine's Dodge in Lewisville, on April 2nd at 9am... Member Allen Vasik is currently working on an article for the club, which will feature photos, interviews, and news excerpts from the Cowtown archives. All non-elected board officers agreed to extend their service for another year. Elected board officer nominations were again open to the floor for any new entries. None were added. After cars and parts were discussed, Richard West spoke to the membership on the recently held Barrett/Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. Member Willy DelManzano won the 50/50 pot. Meeting was adjourned at 7:05 pm. If you cannot make the swap meet on the 12th, please be present for our cruise night at Gene's. Bring a friend or guest for food, drinks, mopars, and friendship. Second Annual Captain Scott Monier Memorial Car Show To Benefit the Captain Scott Monier Memorial Scholarship Fund On April 24 th, 2002, Captain Scott Monier of the White Settlement Police Department laid down his life in the line of duty. While responding to a domestic disturbance, Captain Monier was fatally shot. The Captain Scott Monier Scholarship Fund has been established in his honor to provide financial help to those persons who are seeking education in the Criminal Justice field. 9 Car of the Month March 2005 Alan Spry s 1970 Plymouth Superbird I have owned this Superbird for about 19 years. It is a very enjoyable car to drive, as it handles and drives like a new car. We take the car to Texas Motor Speedway s 1.5 mile track occasionally. The car runs out really well, and at around 110 mph, you can begin to feel the aerodynamics come into play as the rear wing presses the rear of the car down. The Superbird is unrestored with only minor touch-ups. It still sports the original top & interior. I believe the car may have been raced in its early days, due to some modifications which had to be repaired. This also might explain why the car only has 61,000 total miles. On March 13th, we begin to defend the Club s 3-peat in the Texas Muscle Car Club Challenge ( at Kennedale. If you re reading this, then its time to stop reading & join in the fun!! Everyone is welcome, you ll feel welcomed, and you can learn to participate even while driving the family sedan (safely) down the track. Hopefully you didn t miss the Daytona 500 watching party if you did, then you missed the fun we all had cheering our favorite MOPARS around the speedway.
