2 CATTLE: 45 forward Prime Cattle : 16 forward A very small yard met a steadier than usual trade with 5 Butchers and 4 large processors at ringside but all seemingly cautious on surrounding themselves with Cattle. Steers mainly plainer sorts but selling for meated dairybred Steers to 188p/kg from AR & AC Boffey returning Heifers as ever wanted and a real smart sort from Parry Walters to 226p/kg and 1316 with others 216p/kg. Many more of these needed. An older Calf from Jean Herod saw a Beef Shorthorn Heifer at 395. Baby Calves a real trade and topped by P Warden at 320 for Blue Heifers whilst Messrs Trice had 305 for Blue Bulls. Plenty today 300 plus for Blues. South Devons to 170 for Heifers and Sussex Heifers to 100.

3 Second October Store Cattle Fair : 333 forward Another good yarding this week but back on that catalogued with some lots not arriving and others fetching shorter numbers. Those that did not arrive though making a big mistake with trade well in advance of anything I have heard of or witnessed so far this Autumn. Trade very fair with the goods rewarded and those that failed to match many jobs harder to sell. Another load from Edd Hull saw 7 month old Limousin to 870 with Charolais at 5 7 months 790 and 780 and Heifers 690. Younger stock the best presented today and Richard Lee had 810 for 10m old Angus Steers. Mid age Cattle better examples this week and John Arthers took 860 for Limousin Heifers at 12 months whilst smart Limousin Steers at 12 14m from the Semple Family sold at pens full of 1065 with others Heavy cattle today presented well with more wriggle room available to buyers with most having Assurance or time to get it and also not being too close to not as to avoid having to face the current national quotes for killings. Fred Dubberley showed a tremendous run of grazed Steers to take 1210 for pens full at 22 months for Charolais with Simmentals at 1170 and New to this ring Harold Smith from Stow on the Wold took 1170 for a pen of Simmental Steers at 18 months. Ted Taylor showed framed aged Charolais at 1205 for 26 months with others Last in the Catalogue Mick Taylor, Fillongley showed Hereford Steers to 1200 at 23m whilst Blue Steers at 21 months took 1110 and Simmental Heifers 105. Top for the day though from Michael Sharlot with Simmental Steers at 18 months to 1270 and its older Sister at A super day all around. Suckled Calves and Breeding Cows next week. See you there. SHEEP: 1,454 forward Prime Lambs: 935 forward SQQ p/kg The smallest yarding of the year a consequence of the falling trade at the middle of last week but still the best part of 1000 lambs penned today to a large company of buyers with an extra man at ringside going home empty due to price. A real swift trade and seemingly an SQQ of p/kg in the top returns nationally for the day albeit it must be noted that a number of very good sorts are included in the SQQ weight band this week. In the Euro Spec lambs a top of 191p/kg for Claire Harrison at 45kg with 41.5kg to 186p/kg and 42.5kg Beltex to 186p/kg. 40kg from Messrs Barnes, Tamworth 166p/kg equal with 38kg from AJ & JM Young, Aylesbury and 41kg from Norman Deeley, Bicester. In the heavies a top ppk for 47.5kg Texels from F J Tombs with 163p/kg and those 1kg heavier 162p/kg. In the lump a top for the Euro Spec lambs of 86 for Beltex from Claire Harrison at 45kg with 42.5kg at 79. In the heavies a top of for 48.5kg from FJ Tombs ahead of J P Page & Sons at 78 for 55kg. This invitation is a consequence of the additional work the Council considers necessary in order to progress its new Local Plan to meet the proposed housing requirement. WDC's housing requirement has risen from 12,000 to 18,640 for the period in order to meet the needs of Coventry City.
