2 REPORT FOR SATURDAY 13TH OCTOBER 221 Store Cattle & Breeding Cattle Steers sold to 1275 and Heifers to More cattle about this week saw a few more faces having a look and buying cattle. A very strong trade was seen for the older cattle with a high demand for short keep cattle, the younger cattle look good value, but at 500 then having them for at least 12 months at perhaps 2 per day, they soon come to 1230 and they look pretty well sold after doing the sums. The sale usually starts with the younger types of cattle, followed by the breeding cattle, and A Dockerill entered a 9 month Hereford which sold to 510, David Self topped at 710 and 690 for his two 10 month Limousin steers, Messrs Northen & Son entered 22 strong Blonde steers which sold to 1210, with others to 1100, 1000 and 970. Gerald Towers topped at 900 for a bunch of month Aberdeen Angus steers and 800 for a bunch of 18 month Hereford steers. Bob Martin topped at 1000 for a 18 month Hereford steer, 750 for a British Blue steer, 19 months, and a bit younger a Limousin at 680 and a Saler at 700. T & JH Scrimshaw entered some month Simmentals which sold to 860 for their steers and 905 for their heifers. I Warpole topped at 690 for his 19 month Hereford steers and 690 for a heifer. CE Jenkins topped at 650 for a bunch of 18 month Hereford steers. Tim Gawthroup topped at 1270 for two, 30 month South Devon steers. Top price of the day went to BG Jones with some really smart Blonde steers and heifers, which sold to 1275 for the steers and 1225 for his heifers. Alan Salmons topped at 1090 for a bunch of 5 Limousin steers, months and 1050 for his month British Blue steers. Angie Downing topped at 710 for a 27 month Limousin heifer and 670 for a British Blue. KP Lee topped at 920 for two, 18 month Aberdeen Angus steers, and 840 for two others with their British Blue steers, 13 months topping at 565. Cows & Calves, Breeding Females & Stock Bulls A dispersal of Cows & Calves and a Hereford stock bull from Messrs A Dockerill were entered today, with their Hereford cows with 6-8 week old calves at foot topping at 1050 from 760, and averaging 890, an Aberdeen Angus that had run with the bull selling to 830 and a Hereford at 740, their Hereford Stock bull sold to 790.

3 M Burke entered three, month Charolais, empty calved heifers which sold to 820. If you have any cattle to sell please contact Alastair, who would be pleased to visit pre sale for advice, and advertise your stock to your best advantage. 19 Calves Prices topped at 280 for an Aberdeen Angus heifer from Tim Burton with others at 260, 250 and 230, his entry of Aberdeen Angus bulls topped at 190, twice and his Holstein bull calves sold to 15 from 8. Gordon James topped at 210 for his British Blue bulls and 190 for his Blue heifer calf. More from Gordon this week, if you have any to market please contact our team, so that we can inform the relevant buyers. 15 Pigs A colourful display of pigs today saw small, weaned spotted pigs sell to 11 from AJ Harrell and their similar bred sows and boars, which sold to 35 and 25 for the sows and 25 for the boars. If you have some to sell please contact us so we can inform the buyers. 390 Store & Breeding Sheep A fantastic entry today of proper store sheep, with a good entry of both short and long keep lambs on offer. Trade lamb for lamb about 4 dearer on the week, with additional purchasers present for lambs. Trade topped at 70 for Continentals from Nigel Shemilt with Suffolks from the same home at 65. Tom Hinch sold Suffolks to 67, twice with another pen at 64, while Jacquie Millbank sold Continentals to with others at 61 and 57. Nigel Russell sold Texels to 63 with another pen at Texels from S Goodship sold to 60, equal to similar types from I Walpole. A few Rams today sold to 300 and 260 (twice) for Charollais shearlings from Craig Forsyth, with Texel shearlings from Ian Hudson selling to 120. 5 REPORT FOR THURSDAY 11TH OCTOBER Trade steadier today, with well finished handyweight lambs seeing best demand. More ewes about today and trade maintained last week s levels. Prime Lambs Sold to 96 or 202p/kg More lambs about today, with a few lean light lambs today that would make more as stores, with less deductions. Please speak to any of the team with regard to the marketing of prime lambs. Today meat wanted and a premium paid, with a top price of 202p/kg. Todays SQQ p/kg and All In p/kg. Standards (32.1kg-39kg) sold to 64 or 164p for 39kg Texels from John Claypole. To From Average 64 or 164p/kg 56 or 146p/kg 58 or p/kg Mediums (39.1kg-45.5kg) saw Rob Mason take 87 or 202p for 43kg Beltex, with Bernard Pearson taking 185p or 74 for 40kg Texels. Others from Bernard at 45.5kg & 44kg sold to 79 or 174p & 180p, with a pen at 42.5kg selling for 77 or 181p. 44.5kg Charollais from D Talbot sold to 77 or 173p, with T Coldson taking at 44.5kg for Texels realising 172p. George Thompson Farms Ltd sold Charollais at 76 for 43kg & 42kg realising 177p & 181p.
