Call or test Brad Boulanger with any questions With Fair time quickly approaching please remember that we need all sheep and goats to be sheered slick by weigh in time on Friday. Superintendents and I have talked about not weighing animals that are not sheered. This is stated in the Fair Paper and we are just trying to make you aware of it again. GREENWOOD COUNTY BORN BEEF CLASS The "Greenwood County Born" class requires the animal to have been born in Greenwood County. We have affidavit forms in our office or on our website stating the beef was born in Greenwood County. This signed affidavit should be attached to your Fair entry. If it was not, turn this form in as soon as possible. The winner of the Greenwood County Born class will be figured considering live placing and rate of gain. The Pen of 3 class does not require the animals to have been born in Greenwood County. These 2 classes are exceptions to the rule an exhibit or animal can only be in one class. 2 BEDDING LIVESTOCK AT THE FAIR Since cattle and bucket calves will be bedded in sand, do not feed hay in the barns! Please feed hay when you have the animal out of the barn. Tie-out time is 8:30 p.m. Please have your animal on display until this time. We work hard at keeping our barn area clean. Try to keep your "tie-out" area clean as well. The last day of the fair pick up extra hay and any spilled grain. Lambs, goats, and swine are bedded in wood shavings. It's the exhibitors responsibility to supply these. You can purchase them at many feed stores such as Flint Hills Feed or Orschlens FAIR HORSE SHOW - JULY 22 AT 5pm The 4-H Horse show rule book will be followed. Show management and/or the judge may modify class execution as appropriate to run the show as efficiently as possible and allow you to exhibit their project to the best of their abilities. GREENWOOD COUNTY 4-H CARCASS CONTEST A 4-H Carcass Contest involving market beef, market swine, market goats and market lambs is planned for this year s fair. Ideally, animals that place 1 st and 2 nd in market animal classes will be included in this contest. After the fair, a date to view carcasses at Woodson County Prime Meats in Yates Center will be determined, as this is where a majority of the animals will be taken for processing. The time frame for the visit is dependent on the schedule of the business. Anyone interested in purchasing a carcass should call the Extension Office at H members and families who have questions about the 4-H Carcass Contest can contact Greg Davis at With Fair time quickly approaching please remember that we need all sheep and goats to be sheered slick by weigh in time on Friday. Superintendents and I have talked about not weighing animals that are not sheered. This is stated in the Fair Paper and we are just trying to make you aware of it again.
3 Fair Changes for 2017 and Beyond Hogs: There have been a couple changes for animals at the county fair. Greenwood County 4-H Foundation has voted on a suggested weight increase or the market hogs class at the County Fair. The old weight of 220 pounds has been in place for over 15 years and the hog superintendents suggested a 10 pound weight increase to better match what the industry is doing as well as follow along with the State Fair rules. This rule will not affect when hogs should be born by, so you still need to buy hogs that are born on or after January 1 st of that year. (230 pounds is the minimum weight). Also note that market hogs will not be sorted/enrolled into dark and light classes. Classes will strictly be broken up on weight. Beef: Beef must be born on or after January 1 st of the previous year., ex; market steer for 2017 must be born on or after January 1 st of Weigh in schedule change at the fair: No animals on the fair grounds before 5p.m. Water will not be turned on until weigh in time, Thursday Night. Foods Fair Changes For 2017, the labels on the bottom of the plates, no LONGER need to be AT- TACHED. Bring the label completed with each fair entry at time of judging. All top blues of gift baskets will be considered for a grand and reserve food basket. All top blues of decorated food items will be considered for a grand and reserve decorated food item. The decorated foods are not KSF eligible. Fair Paper Changes Please note that the years on breeding animals did not get changed in the fair paper this year with the exception of horses. Ex. Fair catalog states class 67 yearling heifers calved between January 1st & August The 2015 should be Please call the Extension office with any questions Thursday Night: Beef only; 7p.m. to 8p.m. There will be no unloading of hogs during this time. Friday: Hogs:8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Goats: 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sheep: 10 a.m. to 11a.m Bucket Calves: 11a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Scales close at 11:30 a.m. Entomology Fair Changes Fair Changes Entomology rules for the Greenwood County fair are limited on space, and for those needing help with projects or more detail of fair submission, feel free to contact Luke Westerman, Superintendent of Entomology at luke.westerman22@gmail.com 3
