He was the winner of the overall shooting belt buckle in the age division at State 4-H Shooting Sports. This is a compiled score from his state scores at Linn Creek in August for trap, double trap, in addition to his scores for state skeet, double skeet and sporting clays at Prairie Grove Sept Livingston County Extension Gun Raffle The Livingston County Extension Council is selling tickets for a Ruger American Predator.223, moss green synthetic stock, if you are interested in a ticket (must be 18+), please contact a council member or stop by the office. $20 each and only 100 tickets sold. Contact your club leader or contact the office at New Year information County Project Notes Shooting Sports Shooting sports is a county project, therefore members must shoot with a county group and certified shooting sports instructor to be eligible for county, regional and state competition. If you have interest in being a countywide leader or know someone who is, please encourage them to sign up for the training either in October or the spring training. Members: Sign up for Western Heritage this year we had a small but mighty group excel in Western Heritage Shooting, led by Willie Bagley and Suzi Beck. We are ready for more! If you are interested in shooting with oldtime rifles, shotgun and pistols while wearing period clothes and learning about western heritage, this is the event for you. Contact Willie, Suzi, or the office for more info. Blacksmithing Willie Bagley is interested in starting a county project. Interested? Contact the Extension Office to get signed up. Robotics Back by popular demand, Jayne Meservey will be leading robotics for interested members. Members should enroll in that project when signing up AND contact Jayne at 660/ or jaynemeservey@yahoo.com. Dogs Project Leader Needed Pam Taylor and Taylor McCumber have done an excellent job working with county youth canine members, but they are moving on due to busy schedules. If you are interested in being a dog project leader or have leader suggestions, contact the office. Leaders: If you know someone who is interested in leading a countywide project or hosting countywide project meetings in a specific area, contact the office and we will help with the process. I think we already have opportunities for some exciting county events in 4-H in the coming year. Stay tuned! 3

4 Missouri Youth Institute* We have an opportunity for our 4-H youth to engage in thinking about our world. Many of you may not realize, that each October in Des Moines, Iowa the World Food Prize is held with people attending from all over the world. Laureates are name just like Nobel Prize Laureates. In addition, they hold a youth institute. This year will kick off the first Missouri Youth Institute, an annual all-day leadership program hosted by the University of Missouri-Columbia s College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources and the World Food Prize. The youth institute empowers students to solve some of the greatest challenges we know on the planet today. This year will be very special as the Institute will take place in conjunction with the 11 th Annual Universities Fighting World Hunger Summit in February. Students participating in the Missouri Youth Institute will then have the opportunity to interact with leaders from across the globe working to end hunger. Interstate Show Opportunities East Hills Mall, October 10 This is a showcase held in St. Joseph during National 4-H week. Participation is optional and transporting youth/projects to St. Joe is the responsibility of the member/parents. Deadline for all entries is October 6th at 9 pm. Contact the office for forms. Projects Any blue ribbon project is eligible, bring to the mall between 8 am and 10 am, stay until 4 pm. Interstate Boy and Girl Application and interview for outstanding 4-H member. Each candidate for Interstate Boy/Girl will receive a ribbon and certificate. The winners will receive a Key to the City, plaque and scholarship to Missouri Western State University Public Speaking one speech allowed Working Demonstrations Regular Demonstrations Fashion Revue Questions? 5 Officer and Leader Corner Health-Centered Activities 4-H Camp Food and Fitness December 5-6, 2015 At long last! 4-H Camp Food and Fitness is scheduled on December 5-6, 2015 on the MU campus. You ll recall I attempted to reschedule this event during the summer but camps, fairs and other factors made finding a date a challenge. The primary audience for the camp is youth age enrolled in 4-H Foods projects but young people associated with any Extension program are eligible to attend if they meet the age criteria. Given that Camp Food and Fitness was not offered in 2014, I would like to extend an invitation to youth who wanted to attend last year but may have aged out for We will make sure that now 15-year olds that wanted to attend last year get the opportunity to do so. Area 4-H Officer Training Saturday, November 7. 9 am 12 pm. Chillicothe Litton Ag Center Officers will be instructed on the specific duties of their jobs, all while having a great time. It is important that officers know how to complete official books and fulfill responsibilities, this training will help give officers the confidence to do so. Most importantly, we will have fun and meet new 4-H friends through workshops, games and activities. Other activities will include, 1) opening/closing ceremonies 2) parliamentary procedure, 3) 4-H trips what s out there?, 4) leader forum where best practices will be discussed and ideas shared between leaders. All members (even if they don t currently have an office) and adults are invited to attend. We understand this is a busy day, but please consider making a commitment to learn more about 4-H and Leadership Congratulations on being selected to an office, we hope to see you in the future!
