2 GENERAL INFORMATION FOR DISTRIBUTION Raise Your Hand if You Are a 4-H Alum! Alison Copeland You know about the 4-H program. You may have been a 4-H member yourself! If so, we re still the same 4-H that taught you responsibility, compassion and the value of hard work, but just like you, we ve grown a lot over the years. We re asking you, friends of 4-H, to Raise Your Hand to support 4-H ers in Missouri. Raising your hand is easy! Starting on April 1, visit 4-H.org/RaiseYourHand to vote for Missouri 4-H. Each hand raised is a vote towards a $20,000, $10,000 or $5,000 award for the states with the most hands raised. Pay it forward by tweeting, posting and sharing your #4HGrown support and asking your network to raise their hands at 4-H.org/RaiseYourHand. Shooting Sports Updates* Jim Sappington National Shooting Sports Ambassador National 4-H Shooting Sports Ambassador Program is designed to promote 4-H and 4-H Shooting Sports. Youth selected to serve as Ambassadors will receive training that will allow them to return to their homes and advocate for the program at the county, regional, and state level. Some Ambassadors may be asked to support national events as well. Ambassadors provide public relations support at special events such as donor/sponsor functions and also serve as spokespersons for the 4-H Shooting Sports Program, helping to make 4-H and the 4-H Shooting Sports Programs more visible. The Ambassador s further develop their skills in leadership, public presentation, citizenship, community service, public relations and team building. Applicants must be at least 15 years of age before January 1, 2018 to apply. It is recommended that the candidates also have at least one year left in 4-H. The application for the National Shooting Sports Ambassador are available and due back to me by April 30. The 2018 National 4-H Shooting Sports Teen Leadership Institute is July 24-28, 2018 at Montana State University - Bozeman This is in addition to the Missouri Shooting Sports Ambassador applications that have a deadline of May 15. Please forward this information to any youth that might be interested in this great opportunity. Daisy Scholarship Attached please find the Application for the 2018 Daisy Scholarship. The qualifications for scholarship consideration would include: 1. Minimum of a 3.0 GPA from your high school 2. Limited to high school graduating seniors. 3. Three years participation in 4-H shooting sports 4. Recommendation of HS counselor or principal 5. Recommendation of 4-H coach or equivalent who is not a relative

3 6. Scholarship would be payable to any two-year or four-year accredited Jr. College, College or University. Payable upon applicant demonstrating proof of completion of one semester and second semester proof of enrollment. 7. Applicant required to submit personal Resume 8. Application would require a word essay about How participation in the 4-H Shooting Sports better prepared them for college and for life. 9. Certified copy of high school transcript. 10. Scholarship money would be available in the second semester of the freshman year and can be used for books, housing, and or college fees. 11. The scholarship of $ will be awarded at the 4-H Shooting Sports National Championships each year. Daisy awards two $500 scholarships. Each State May Submit 1 qualified candidate to be considered for the Daisy 4-H Scholarship. Please pass this information to any of your shooting sports members that will be graduating high school this year. Calendar Fundraiser How are sales going? We were allotted 4500 calendars to sell and I still have just over 600 here in the office so if you need to order or would like more please fill out an order form and send it in. We will announce the top calendar sellers the first week in June so make sure the sellers information is on the stubs when they returned. We will need all Calendar stubs and checks by June 1 so we can enter the information entered to select the top selling youth. To date The Missouri Friends of NRA program has funded 683 grants totaling over 4.5 Million Dollars helping shooting sports programs in 91 of the 114 Missouri counties. In addition, they have given more than $500,000 in cash from calendar sales back to Missouri 4-h Shooting Sports. Let s see if we can get all 4500 of these calendars sold and make this our best year yet! Public Speaking Academy Patty Fisher The 4-H Public Speaking Academy is preparing for its seventh year! Extension faculty, along with 4-H volunteers will provide educational workshops to help youth build their skills and comfort with public speaking. Participants will be guided through the basics and finer points of writing and delivering a speech. Youth will receive individual assistance. The camp is open to all youth years of age interested in learning more about public speaking. The Academy will be June 20-21, 2018 and registration is due May 17. Lodging will be provided on the campus of Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo. The cost is $100. 4 Missouri is NOT Hosting Summer Delegates Joyce Taylor Missouri will not be hosting Japanese Delegates for the summer, 2018-exchange program due to the lack of interest and my personal life changes right now. We will resume hosting in the summer of Missouri will be accepting applications for those who want to travel in the summer of Those are due November 1 st. States 4-H has granted us that permission even though we are not hosting this summer. I will continue with the Academic Year students and will host 2 for the high school program. 4-H Youth to Sell Items at the Missouri State Fair, August 9-19* Steve Henness Announcing the 11th Annual Show Me 4-H Wares at the Missouri State Fair sales booth! 4-H youth ages can apply to sell original products or services to fairgoers in the Mizzou Central Building, August 9-19, Show Me 4-H Wares is a youth business fair inside a commercial building open to all State Fair goers, with various displays and exhibitors from the University of Missouri. Youth can showcase their 4-H projects, gain business and marketing skills, and earn their own money as an entrepreneur! Sell as an individual, with a biz buddy, or a team of three members from a 4-H club or project group. Exhibitors are selected for a half-day time slot of their choice on one of the sales booth days. (Selected exhibitors ages may be assisted by youth ages 8-10). 5 2018 True Leaders in Service / National 4-H Day of Service, April 28 Steve Henness National 4-H headquarters is pleased to announce the 2 nd annual True Leaders in Service / National 4-H Day of Service initiative. Please promote broadly. 4-H ers from around the nation can register for and engage in service projects throughout April The month of service culminates with the National 4-H Day of Service on Saturday, April 28, Planning and promotional resources are available on the above website. Missouri 4-H Clubs have tons of service project ideas they can choose from! Steve Henness Missouri 4-Hers are rolling up their sleeves and turning their hands to larger service. Livingston County 4-H Ag Literacy in Schools. Recognizing the need for agricultural literacy in their schools, the Livingston County 4-H teen leaders developed a comprehensive curriculum with facts, games, activities, and interactive lessons. The youth communicated with principals and afterschool coordinators, and presented to over 300 students. In addition to discussing the value of agriculture in their everyday lives, the students also learned about the many opportunities available through 4-H and how they could join their local club. The teen leaders plan to continue the efforts in the future, training new presenters each year.

6 Missouri 4-H Robotics Contest, May 19, 2018, MizzouRec Complex Lynna Lawson 4-H members in the robotics project may participate in the Missouri 4-H Robotics contest on Saturday, May 19 at the MizzouRec Complex on the MU Campus. The challenges and rules are posted on the Missouri 4-H Robotics page at There are four opportunities to compete: Motorized Challenge, Sumo Bots, Unknown Challenge, and Scratch Google Doodle Contest. In addition, 4-Hers may have a Robotics Educational Display and/or Demonstration. There will be three age divisions: Junior, Intermediate, and Senior. Each youth and team in the contest areas will have an interview. 4-H members must be 4-H Age by January 1, There will be registration for individuals and teams of HOnline registration will be open on April 10. There will be a fee of $10 per youth and $5 per youth for each contest entered (regardless of team or individual registration.) 4-Hers do not have to qualify at the local level to participate. Aerospace Camp Lynna Lawson Missouri 4-H collaborates with Missouri S&T to conduct Aerospace Camp on July for youth ages The camp is full of hands on fun learning about what it takes to be an astronaut or in the aeronautics profession. The cost is $395 and includes lodging, meals, and program materials. There is not a registration deadline, but the camp fills quickly. Visit to get more information about Aerospace Camp. You will also find other youth camps at M S&T at this web page Robo Palooza at Mizzou Allison Pittman & Lynna Lawson Robo Palooza is one of the Mizzou camp opportunities offered on July on the MU Campus. There are several hands on learning including LEGO Mindstorm EV3 robots, Raspberry Pi, Junk Drawer Robots, field trips to College of Engineering, MU Hospital Simulation Center Robotics, and much more. The cost is $490 by May 1 and $540 by June 1. Commuter registration is $310.

7 Missouri 4-H Sportfishing event registration now open! Don Nicholson June 2, 2018 Little Dixie Lake Registration has opened in 4HOnline and will close May 15. Only those youth enrolled in the Sportfishing project will be able to register. Overview of the day s events: Event Check-in will take place between 7:30 and 8 a.m. at the Little Dixie Lake Conservation Area Shelter (between Columbia and Fulton). All registered participants will receive a gift card from Bass Pro Shops, a goodie bag and a t-shirt! Events and activities begin at 8 a.m. Fishing derby (8:30-11 a.m.) includes both a shore and a boat class Casting contest Skill-a-thon (skills and knowledge-based activities) Topics included are from the 4-H Sportfishing curriculum and might include a variety of topics: Fish identification Knot tying Missouri fishing regulations Terminal rigging Tackle identification Matching tackle to fish Basic fish biology (Habitat preferences, Identify fish parts, etc.) Aquatic ecology Fishing safety Sportsman ethics Other activities for youth, leaders and families include fish demonstrations and hands-on activities. 8 State Poultry Day Don Nicholson June 9, 2018 Check in begins at 7:15 a.m. Event times are 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This will be a youth training/skills demonstration event in an educational format. This will be a great opportunity for leaders to pick up information and materials they can take back home to assist with their poultry training and programs and for members to hone their skills in a voluntary just for fun quiz bowl. Open to all 4-Hers. Register for this event through 4HOnline. Registration is $20 for both the youth and adult registrations until May 15, and then youth and adult registrations will be $25 until the June 1 deadline. 9 Kids and K-9 Camp Elaine Anderson Join us for a pawsitively great time at the 2018 Missouri State 4-H Kids & K-9 Camp June 7-9 at Camp Clover Point. A statewide 4-H camp for dog training, demos and fun. Come and learn training skills, meet new friends, and have fun with your dog! Shooting Sports Camp* Tevin Uthlaut This is a three-day camp designed to explore the world of 4-H Shooting Sports including archery, air pistol, and air rifle. Whether you are currently enrolled in a shooting sports project or want to learn more, this camp is for you. State certified 4-H Shooting Sports instructors will lead the way. We ll also enjoy our old camp favorites like swimming in the lake, making traditional crafts to take home, and of course, campfires! Alumni Camp* Tevin Uthlaut If you came up through 4-H as a child or teenager, you know the value and influence that 4-H played in your life. At Alumni Camp, you will get the opportunity to relive some of those good times at 4-H camp as well as visit with other alumni, share memories, relax, and participate in traditional camp activities. Your participation and fees will help support the Camp Clover Point Camping Association. The cost to attend Alumni Camp is $75, so make sure you get you application in early and prepare for yet another fun summer at 4-H camp!
