Come help support the event. Register by this Wednesday for a free shirt. Registration is $20 for adults and $15 for kids over 10. Registration will increase to $25 the day of the event. Forms are attached. Callaway Youth Expo Forms and information for shows at the Callaway Youth Expo are being updated weekly and can be found at On the left hand side you will find a link for Callaway Youth Expo. 2 March 13, 2017 MFA in Fulton will be hosting an open house for youth in 4H & FFA on March 25 from 11am-2pm. Lunch will be provided. Project Update Shooting Sports-Shooting Sports Safety Training will be offered at the Extension Office on March 17 (6pm-9pm) & March 18 (9am- 12pm)If this is your 1st year in shooting sports you can not shoot without attending this class (6 hours needed.) Please sign up for this class on 4-H online (740). Contact Lori Davis at if you have questions. SMQA training-this is for anyone enrolled in an animal project, hams or bacon. The date has been set for March 16th at the Extension Office at 7:00pm. SMQA training needs to be done two years in a row and again when a member turns 14. It will be set up in stations. Parents if you can help run a station please let Sarah know. Please RSVP-snacks will be provided.(if you can not make the date please call the Extension Office, other options are available, but this needs to be done by June 1 to show.) Clinics/Sales County Happenings Swine-The first two of four part series of slide shows are available for viewing. SPS participants must view them prior to selecting their pigs on March 18. Go to and near the bottom of the page you should be able to click on and open each presentation with pptx (audio). Let Tim Safranski know if you Horses-There will be a local horsemanship and trail clinic offered by the Mid-MO Saddle Club and Big Spring Busy Beaver on May 6, See attached flyer for details. COMO Swine Showmanship Clinic will be in Columbia, MO on March 18. Flyer is attached. Meat Goats-Star of Missouri meat goat wether sale will be Saturday, April 8th in Mexico, MO. Flyer is attached. Sheep & Goat-Klarissa Minish will be hosting a youth sheep and goat clinic in New Bloomfield, on April 15. Please RSVP to kshefit93@gmail.com. The flyer with more details is in the Feb. 6 newsletter. Shooting Sports-Shooting Sports will be selling calendars for $50 in partnership with the Missouri Friends of the NRA State Committee. In the calendar is a raffle ticket, this raffle ticket is good for a drawing for 104 guns. There will be two drawings per week. Must be received by the Fair ten days following. The livestock entry deadline is June 30, 2017 (July 1 is a Saturday this year.) Regional Happenings 4-H Day with the Kansas City Royals-Attention all Royals fans 4H day will be held on September 8, The Royals vs. Twins game will be $40 a ticket if signed up by April 15 or $60 a ticket if signed up by July 15. Ticket includes t-shirt and raffles. Form is in the Feb. 6 newsletter. 4-H Day with the Cardinals-Join us on May 20th, 2017 for the 16th annual 4-H Day with the Cardinals. Tickets for the game will be $25.00 each and includes a specially designed t-shirt. Tickets must be postmarked by April 10th, Form is in the Feb. 6 newsletter. Mizzou Collegiate Horse Show-April 22 at the MU Equine Teaching Facility. See attached flyer for more details. State Happenings Public Speaking-The 4-H Public Speaking Academy is preparing for its sixth year! The camp is open to all youth years of age interested in learning more about public speaking. The Academy will be June 21-22, 2017 and registration is due May 16. Lodging will be provided on the campus of Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo. Host a Japanese Student-We have 12 youth coming to Missouri ages from July 23-Aug. 17. If you are interested in hosting a youth for a everyday type experience (gender match and within 2 years of Japanese delegate) check it out at apply/host. MU Animal Science Youth Leadership Academy-High school youth from across the state are invited to participate in the University of Missouri Animal Science Youth Leadership Academy hosted by the MU Division of Animal Sciences and University of Missouri Extension. The goal of the academy is to discover Missouri s young leaders in agriculture and facilitate their growth and impact on the livestock industry. See attached flyer. State 4-H Congress Update-Registration for the 2017 State 4-H Congress is open. Please register as soon as you finalize your plans to attend so we can honor and respect our presenters as they make plans for their sessions. 4-H True Leaders in Service-Any 4-H group can join the campaign with an existing/ongoing service-learning project or one-day event. Scholarship Opportunities 2017 MCSC-Monsanto High School Scholarship Awards-Do you know high school students that are dedicated to improving their community and looking for scholarship money to continue their education. The MCSC is looking for 8 outstanding high school volunteers to award $1000 to. Applications are due March 10, To find out more, visit County Scholarships Available-County scholarships are available for those needing help paying for state/county dues, camps & state wide events. Applications are available at the Extension Office. All applications will be reviewed by the senior council. Callaway Youth Expo Clean Up/Work Days-The following dates have been set for clean up at Auxvasse. Reminder: youth need to participate in 1 in order to sell at the auction and work a shift at the expo. Work days are: March 18th 9am- 12pm, April 22nd 9am-12pm, May 20th 9am-12pm, May 31st 6pm, June 24th 9am-12pm, June 29th 6pm-9pm, July 9th clean up after the expo. Please call in to the Extension Office with the dates you would like to work so we have workers on each day.1st Anyone working the March 18th work day please bring a rake and gloves for picking up limbs and leaves. Don t forget to find the sign up sheet to mark that you were there. Requirements to Show/Sell at the Callaway Youth Expo Home Arts 1)**Be a member in good standing, 2) Attend conference judging (or turn in absentee form) Animal Project, Hams, Bacon-1)**Be a member in good standing, 2) Attend a work day at the CYE, 3) Do SMQA training 3) Hams/Bacons project to attend conference judging Requirements to sell-1)**be a member in good standing, 2) Attend a work day at the CYE, 3)Do SMQA training, 4)Work a shift during the CYE (ham breakfast, selling t- shirts, sale dinner, etc., sign up at the CYE when you get your sale shirt), A 10% sellers fee will be held if requirements are not met. **A list should come from each club leader by the end of June of who is a member in good standing to Sarah at the extension office. A database is being made and will be checked during the CYE.

Your counselor knows that this type of exchange is not permitted. We also ask that you think about the s, IMs and comments on social networking sites that you may share with other campers. Remember: a. Keep what you say respectful of campers and staff alike b. Do not use obscenities, vulgar or sexual language c. Do not say threatening, harassing, or intimidating things to or about other campers or staff d. Do not post pictures online that would embarrass or violate anyone s privacy e. Do not pose as another camper online or spread false information about anyone or say derogatory or threatening things to or about anyone f. Do not use a website, blog, or to talk about things that are against camp policy like drugs, alcohol, bullying, or sexual things We are happy to say that most internet communication is POSITIVE! In the rare case where we discover negative messages to other campers or staff our policy is to call the parents of the campers who sent the messages and share the contents with them. We want you to be safe on the Internet. If you receive a threatening , IM or message on your personal website one that is mocking or uses vulgar or harassing language tell your parents immediately. If you think the message might be from someone at camp, ask your parents to notify Extension staff immediately! Camp Clover Point has a no cell phone/electronic device policy at camp. All electronic devices that take photos, connect to the internet and make/take phone calls must be turned in to Extension staff upon arriving at camp. This includes cell phones, smart watches, MP3 players, media players, etc. They will be returned when camp has ended. The use of head phones with any personal electronic device is also not allowed. We encourage children to participate fully with their peers at camp and headphones can be isolating. We do allow personal music devices to be used with speakers. We are trying to create the safest environment possible for all of our campers. If a camper has a prohibited device, it will be held in the office until the end of camp. If you would like to take pictures at camp you may bring a camera. A disposable film camera is preferred (with an affixed return address label for identification). As with other electronic devices, the physical camp environment is not kind to digital cameras, and they can be easily broken, lost or stolen. The first afternoon of camp, campers (with counselors present) will be allowed to take pictures of their bunk area inside their cabin. For the remainder of camp, only outside pictures are permitted. We do not permit any type of video camera at camp. PLEASE SIGN BELOW TO INDICATE THE FOLLOWING: I have read over and discussed the enclosed internet policy with my child(ren). My child(ren) understands the importance of internet safety and I as a parent take full responsibility for their internet use and communication with Camp Clover Point staff and campers. 14 MU Animal Sciences Youth Leadership Academy APPLICATION INFORMATION High school youth from across the state are invited to participate in the University of Missouri Animal Science Youth Leadership Academy hosted by the MU Division of Animal Sciences and University of Missouri Extension. The goal of the academy is to discover Missouri s young leaders in agriculture and facilitate their growth and impact on the livestock industry. In 2017, the intense four-day event will focus on increasing knowledge of Missouri s diverse and dynamic livestock industry, as well as building participant s leadership skills. Twenty high school students will be selected to participate in the session based upon educational, community, and agricultural involvement, as reflected through an application process. Students will be welcomed to the Division of Animal Sciences at MIZZOU, with oncampus housing provided for a college life experience. Participants will have the opportunity to enhance their leadership development, discuss current issues regarding livestock production (all species), tour industry leading operations and businesses, and interact with University of Missouri faculty and staff; while networking with other young leaders from across the State. Applications Requirements: Participants must be currently (as of January 1, 2017) enrolled in high school. Applications must be postmarked by April 1, No late applications accepted. Delegates must be able to participate in the entire academy and attend all conference sessions. Students must complete all areas of the application. The application should be paper clipped including application form, resume and one letter of recommendation. Applicants will receive an confirmation that their application has been received. Please allow 2-3 weeks for review and selection after the April 1 deadline. Sponsorship: The academy is sponsored by the Division of Animal Sciences, MU Extension and by Friends of the MU Animal Science Youth Leadership Academy. Cost to attend is $500 per student. If selected, students will pay only $100 of this fee, with the balance provided by sponsorships. Students are responsible for transportation to and from the Academy. 16 Instructions for Blood Card Collection READ CAREFULLY 1. Write animal ID (ear notch), your name, breed and date on card. 2. Locate a vein on the ear or other body part form which the sample will be collected. 3. Thoroughly clean skin surface with alcohol. 4. Use sterile syringe needle to puncture the vein or skin. Use a separate needle for each animal. 5. Blot the blood onto the inside sample collection card (enough so the blood is visible on the reverse side of card). A spot the size of a quarter is ideal. 6. Always use a separate card for each animal (1 card = 1 animal). 7. Allow blood card paper to dry by laying it on its side with cover open. NEVER allow blood paper from one card to touch blood paper from another of contamination will occur. 8. VERY IMPORTANT: To prevent bacterial and fungal growth, which may destroy the DNA and require you to resubmit, allow card to dry completely before closing cover for storage. During wet, humid or cold days, cards may require drying in an airconditioned or heated environment. Do NOT dry in ultraviolet light (sunlight). A household lamp can be used when place 6-8 from sample. The card is dry when the blood turns from red to brown. 9. When card is completely dry, close cover for storage. WET CARDS CANNOT BE PROCESSED. YOU MAY HAVE TO RESUBMIT IF CARDS ARE NOT DRY!
