2 Moniteau County Fair August 7-12, 2017 Morgan County Fair July 12-15, 2017 Move Across Missouri Please note the competitive period of MOVE ends April 30 and reporting MOVE minutes occurs May 1-15 in 4-Honline. Did you sign up for Move Across Missouri? Participants will report the totals of each of the 12 weeks (starting the week of February 1) and check off the boxes the types of activities (12) the did during that time. Again, the MOVE competition event reporting is May 1 May 15. Participants must, must, must click all the way through the invoice, even though it is $0.00 for the registration to be complete. Morgan County Youth Instead of holding a achievement day, 4-H ers may give a demonstrations at a 4H council meeting in April or June. If you are interested in giving your demonstration at the MO State Fair, you will need to present at the county level and this is your opportunity. Please contact the office if you are interested. 3 Sportfishing State Event The Missouri 4-H State Sportfishing event will be held Saturday, June 3rd, 2017 in MidMissouri. This annual event is always held the 1st Saturday after Memorial Day. The event is open to all 4-H members enrolled in the sportfishing project (if a member is not enrolled in the project they will not see the event in 4HOnline when it opens). Event registration for youth will take place in 4HOnline and will open April 1 and close May 15. T his event is generously supported by Missouri Department of Conservation and Bass Pro Shops. Cost of the event is $20 per member (additional cost for family members who want us to provide lunch rather than bring it). Registration opens April 15. Register in 4-H online. State Poultry Day June 17, 2017 at the Animal Science Building, University of Missouri, Columbia, Mo. Open to all 4-Hers, but participants 14 and over before Jan. 1 will be placed in the senior division. It is $20 for both the youth and adult registrations until May 15, and then youth and adult registrations will be $25 until the June 1 deadline. T-shirt ordering Deadline: May 8, 2017 Activities for the day include: Two Educational Sessions for 4-H Day Production Poultry Judging Hands-On Workshop for Beginners and Judging Classes for More Advanced: A Production Judging Contest, including egg and carcass grading and laying hens placing. If desired, a senior 4-H Judging Team may be identified to qualify to enter the 4-H National Competition in Louisville, KY in November. 4 4-H Day with the Springfield Cardinals, 4-H members, alumni, families and their friends are invited to join us for 4-H Day with the Springfield Cardinals, Tuesday, May 30 at 6:30. The Cardinals will be playing the Corpus Christi Hooks at Hammons Field. The ticket price of $12 includes a hat. 5 Kountry Kids 4-H Club Meeting Minutes April 19, 2017 The Kountry Kids 4-H club met at the Hagedorn home on April 19 th. The meeting was called to order by Tabitha Ypya. Matthew Iman led the American pledges and Gabe Brunjes led the 4-H pledge. Gabe then gave prayer. Brody Kroeschen took roll call and read the minutes from the March meeting. Saydi Hagedorn read the Treasurer s report. Blake Nairn gave his demonstration How to make a volcano erupt. Gabe demonstrated the digestive system of a cow then Barton Marriott demonstrated how to use a Kreg jig when working with wood. Tabitha asked each club member how their projects were going. No old business was left to discuss so went on to new business. Thank you cards were handed out and those that attended the January Energizer and the teen conference in March were asked to write up a thank you for the Albers-Kuhn family to thank for paying for the events. Since April 29 th is National Community Service day, the club discussed ideas. The decision was made to just report our trash pickup. It was voted to pick up trash on our adopted highway on April 24 th, 5:30pm. The club s May community service will be to spruce up the Welcome to Stover sign flower beds. The date will be May 17 th at 5:30 then have the monthly meeting afterward. The club voted to spend $30.00 on mulch. Bobbie asked for ideas from the club on the criteria for 4-H Senior scholarships. She ll report the ideas back to 4-H Council. She then handed out 4-H Camp registrations which are due May 1. Tabitha asked the club to vote if the club should have a Facebook page. All members voted to do so and Tabitha volunteered to set up and be the keeper of the account. A date was set to make Mother s Day gifts as May 8 th. Club will meet at 6pm at the Hagedorn home. Dads are to bring the kids or they can be dropped off but Moms are not allowed! A date will be set to make Father s Day gifts at the May meeting. Bobbie then went over amounts due from those who are to attend the Cardinals and/or Royals game as well as additional t-shirts purchased. Next meeting will be May 17 th. The meeting was adjourned with refreshments served by the Nairn family and drinks by the Brunjes family. Little Rascals April 4, 2017 The Little Rascals Clover Kids Club met April 4 at Mid-America Therapy in Versailles. The meeting began with pledges, roll call (Have you planted anything yet this year?) and a discussion of April activities. Eunice Officer, a master gardener, and Paula Whiting talked about growing and caring for plants. They helped the thirteen members and one guest plant cabbage plants and marigold seeds. Hopefully the plants will thrive and be shown at the fair. Those attending Library Day reported that towers were constructed with Legos and books were selected by the Dewey Decimal System for presentations. Everyone shared their results of a bean germination experiment. The Little Rascals collected 35 pounds of food for the local food pantry. Hattie Marriott and Khale Marriott did a team demonstration showing the sign language alphabet. Trinity Jefferies presented a judging class on ammunition. Members drew a Missourian's name to report on at the May's meeting roll call. Refreshments were served. The next meeting will be May 2 at the Morgan County Library in Versailles. 6 Supplies Clover seeds Potting soil Plastic cups (one per child) Plastic wrap Rubber bands Clover Kid Corner Through Clover Kids clubs, children learn how to get along, share, and work in groups, explore their interests, and build self-confidence. Each Clover Kids Corner provides an activity, information or other materials that Clover Kids leaders can use in planning and implementing experiences that introduce five to seven-year olds to the 4-H experience. Grow Your Own Clovers Directions 1. Fill cups half full with potting soil 2. Sprinkle clover seeds on top of potting soil 3. Cover seeds with potting soil, but only fill the cup ¾ full 4. Cover cups with plastic wrap and seal with a rubber band When Children Get Home 5. Place cup in a warm, shaded location for the seeds to germinate (i.e., top of a refrigerator) 6. After the first seed leaf pushes through the dirt remove the plastic cover and place cup in a sunny area. It is important to keep the soil moist with fresh water. 7. After clovers begin growing transplant them into a bigger pot either inside or outside Encourage children to look through the clovers to see if they find the four leaf kind! 4-H Move Across Missouri (MOVE) MOVE is back for 2017! And, youth and adults can register for it on 4HOnline!! Enrollment for new and re-enrollment for current MOVErs begins now and continues until May 1 (please make sure to register by May 1 so you can participate in the competition!). As you know, MOVE promotes physical activity and encourages youths to engage in a broad range of activities such as walking, biking, running, swimming, dance, taekwondo, gardening and more. Here s what youth and adults need to do to participate: Enroll in the Move Across Missouri (MOVE) project (HF775) in 4HOnline in their profile. Enrollment in 4-H MOVE does not count as a part of county limits on projects. Using a paper tracking system found on the 4-H website at: youth and their families can log the number of minutes they accumulate throughout the year and during the competitive component of the MOVE program (scroll to the bottom of the website page and click My Move Activity Log ). Record keeping through the paper tracking system is important because the competition period will be from February 1 to April 30. Youth and families will submit their total number of minutes logged and activities (basketball, running, chores, etc.) throughout the 12-week competitive period between May 1-15 in 4HOnline. 4-Hers and adults can register for the competitive event as individuals and/or as part of a team. An individual MOV- Er may also be a part of a team. A team can consist of a family or members of a 4-H club or group. MOVE awards will be provided. For more information about 4-H MOVE visit -
