Utica Roadrunners believes that running is fun for all ages. So, our committee willhave several programs designed just for kids and teenagers -programs that promote exercise and physical fitness through running. These programs focus on fun and fitness. They offer young runners opportunities to set goals and learn the lifetimeenjoyment of being active and fit. This committee willdevelop, fund and staff these programs through volunteers in the community. The Youth Running Committee willhave a separate line in the Utica Roadrunners General Ledger. 3 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Description of the Youth Committee This committee will consist of people who have knowledge in youth sports and development. They will be responsible for having ~outh Runs at each of the URR Races to include, HOF, Summer Sizzle, SOS, and Falling Leaves and the URR Development Runs at no charge.. The committee will explore other opportunities for enhancing and promoting youth fitness in our community. The committee will have planning meetings on a monthly basis to discuss the progress and plan for up coming events. One member of the committee will attend the monthly URR Board Meeting to update the board on progress. The committee will supply a monthly column for the SplitTimes entitled "Our Youth in Motion". Mission Statement To promote exercise and physical fitness through running and other activities. To develop programs that focus on fun and fitness. Provide a safe environment for training. To be realistic about the children's physical abilities, and help them set realistic goals for themselves. Utica Roadrunners Youth committee wants to emphasize improvements in performance, not winning. Products and Services The Utica Roadrunners Youth Committee will be responsible for: URR Development Runs - URR Development Runs begin at the Utica Roadrunners Development Runs in early May and run for 10 weeks every Wednesday. They are free and just for kids 12 and under. Kids can run 1/4 or 1/2 mile. Parents can run too. Each finisher gets a ribbon at the finish line. Special t-shirts to kids who run in seven or more of the ten Wednesday's. URR Tween and Teen Runs- These runs are for kids ages 9-18 who are ready to "graduate" to longer distances and maybe a little competition. These are specially designated races and "fun runs" throughout the community, so Tweens and Teens can race with other club members. Northwind Traders Sample Business Plan 1
4 URR Club races willbe included in this along with other races 5K and less in distance. We want to get a special rate for URR Members and Special awards at the end of the year. This would remove the 18 and under from the Grand Prix and make them separate. Having a special run and awards ceremony to celebrate the success's of the individuals. URR Winter Teen Trainin!! Pro!!ram: This program begins in Early November and runs through the end of March. The program is for kids ages The program is made up of a series of activities that willpromote physical fitness and improvement in health but is not limitedto running. Local community facilities are used to hold these activities. Workshops include Strength Training, Agility, Water Aerobics, Speed workouts, Yoga, Long Runs and competition at Manly Field House in Syracuse. The program focuses on improvingstrength, flexibilityand endurance. URR 15K Trainin!! Pro!!ram: This program has several start dates, the first Saturday in Jan, Feb and March and runs through the Boilermaker. The program has traditionally been attended by adults but there is a discount for kids ages 13-18, and parents are encouraged to come run with their kids. The training program is held at the Fitness Mill. The first four weeks include guest speakers that demonstrate warm-up and stretch, proper shoes and clothing, cross training and injury prevention. The weekly group run increases distance gradually and students are expected to run 2 other days on their own. Each participant receives a Training Program T-shirt Student Cost $10.00 URR 5K Trainin!! Pro!!ram: This program begins in Late Apriland runs through the Boilermaker. The program is for kids ages The programis geared to trainour youthfor runningthe 5KBoilermakerHigh School Challenge. The first four weeks include guest speakers that demonstrate warm-up and stretch, proper shoes and clothing, cross training and injuryprevention. There is no charge for this program but mentoring by the older runners is strongly encouraged. Northwind Traders Sample Business Plan 2
5 Financial Forecast The Youth Committee will raise money through sponsors and grants. The Utica Roadrunners agreesthat any funds raised by this committee for youth running will only be used for youth running programs. Financing Requirements The Utica Roadrunners agreed to make available $200 to the start up of this committee. To date Wal-Mart has contributed $300. These funds will be used to pay any facility fees and instructor fees for the "Winter Tween and Teen Training Program". Northwind Traders Sample Business Plan 3
