It is a pleasure to see the young people who attend PIBCSS, and to watch them grow to become future sailors. New Ship Store merchandise is coming soon take a look! By the time you read this, we will have had our Wine Tasting Experience hosted by Connoisseur Roger Dennerll and many tales, and will have the opportunity to sample some of the favorite wines chosen by our members. Let us know how we did! Getting involved with the Auxiliary and attending their functions is always enjoyable. Attending our June cruise outs is an excellent way to meet new friends and to find out about our upcoming July & August, and other cruise outs. Get involved - Hope to see you soon! Vivien D. Thank you to Erik and Lisa Anderson for their donation of 5 beautiful flower baskets for the front of the Pavilion. Designed by Jodi Frimel Vice Commodore s Corner Christmas Party Help Needed! Decorating Committee We really could use some volunteers who would be good at making the Christmas party a really festive-looking, cozy, wintry scene. I have asked members to contribute any decorations they may have laying around. I already have a Christmas tree in the back of my van. Whoopee! Donation Committee I also need some folks that can get as many prizes as possible for the Raffle, Sidebar and Chinese Auction at the party. Please contact me rick@catsailor.com Rear Commodore Rick White, Vice Commodore The 2014 Season got off to a great and productive start. Bob Bahney along with several members and their able bodied young sailors moved all of Barb s office furniture to allow new carpeting to be installed in the office. Along with the office area the back hallway and Ship s Store were carpeted too! In the middle of the carpet project a sink hole appeared between the driveway and brick walkway. The sink hole was repaired within the week. A few weeks ago the public boat ramp was closed so the Club was asked to open its boat ramp to the spring fishermen to launch their boats and park at the Yacht Club. This turned out to be a good problem. We were able to charge the fishermen to launch their boats and to use our parking lot. It was a win/win situation. As you could imagine all this activity kept Barb hopping. Our first official event was our May 10th Clean Up Day. Those arriving jumped right into action. We had 53 Members help prepare the Yacht Club for a fun year. A crew cleaned out all the flower beds of leaves and winter debris while preparing them for new flowers and mulch. Others installed several newly engraved memorial bricks in the walkway, fixed the sign, attended to the dock, ramp and pavilion. The patio was power washed and the beautiful new PIBYC Blue umbrellas, purchased by the Ladies Auxiliary, were unveiled. Another large crew literally cleaned the Club from the top of the roof to the ground and inside and out. On top of all that we had made some serious construction repairs to stop Woody s pot and pan rack from pulling the kitchen ceiling down. After everything was completed we enjoyed a wonderful lunch prepared by Woody and Elizabeth who donated their time for this event. Finally, I would like to personally thank Barb Chrysler and all the wonderful members that showed up to help get the Yacht Club and grounds ready for a wonderful fun filled 2014 Season! Bill Boag, Rear Commodore
3 GCBA Memorial Day Services Greater Cleveland Boating Association Memorial Day Services were held May 26 aboard the submarine USS Cod. I had the privilege, along with my husband Roger Dennerll who is Past Commodore & Fleet Captain, to attend on behalf of Put-in-Bay Yacht Club this very special ceremony honoring the memories of our deceased shipmates at Burke Lakefront Airport, Cleveland, Ohio, followed by marching to the USS Cod, where names of PIBYC members deceased since last Memorial Day were called. GCBA has 45 clubs with approximately 15,000 active club members for which PIBYC is a member. This was a very special honor as I was chosen along with Al Gebhardt to represent I-LYA for the placing of the wreath onto the waters aboard the USS Cod, a WWI submarine. PIBYC s Memorial Service What a moving and meaningful Memorial Day Service for the Put-in-Bay Yacht Club, which was coordinated by our PC, Fleet Captain Roger Dennerll, and remembered the lives of family and friends whose members known to us have left these shores for a sea beyond since Memorial Day, Each member was commemorated by a red rose placed into the bay and with the ringing of a bell. The services were followed by our Eye Opener Brunch prepared by Chef Woody. Thank you to all that took part in this ceremony, especially Debra Parker for her beautiful songs, the American Legion Post 542 Rifle Squad, our flag officers, Past Commodores, President, and Past Presidents. Vivien D. Dennerll, Commodore Auxiliary News Hats off to the many members who pitched in on clean up day. It was great to see everyone after the endless winter. The Auxiliary will be kicking off our season with a Derby themed luncheon hosted by Silver Sails. Find your favorite fascinator, things should be great fun. Join us on June 24th at noon. Babysitters will be available as will lunch for the kids. In July we plan a wine tasting, a zen lunch, an old fashioned ladies lunch (moosemilk?), and lunch on the town. We would love additional committee members for any event or to help with the Ship Store, just contact me at Constance.miller@ sbcglobal.net. Don't forget that Swim Sail is looking for donated raffle items for their June spaghetti fundraiser. In July we will be looking for volunteers to support the I-LYA junior and senior regattas. Check Facebook and the Weekly Update for news. Connie Miller, Ladies Auxiliary President The deadline for the PIBYC Jib Sheet submissions is the 15 th of the prior month. Please articles to Barb Hodgson at pibyc.jibsheet@gmail.com The PIBYC Jib Sheet is ed to members with an address. 5 Kroger Rewards Our Swim & Sail Program The Kroger Community Rewards Program is again supporting PIB Community Swim & Sail Program in What this means is when you shop at Kroger (any location) you can direct Kroger to donate a small percentage of your purchase to the Swim/Sail program. There is no additional cost to you. Bob Kanza Getting High Over Clean Up You must have a Kroger Plus card to enroll online at the Kroger Community Rewards website. There are instructions and a direct link to the Kroger site on the swim/sail website pibswimsail.org to help walk you through the short enrollment process. Our organization number is IMPORTANT: The KCR program resets on April 1. If you were enrolled before that date you must renew or relink your Plus Card to Swim/Sail on or after April 1, 2014 (but not before Apr. 1). Every little bit counts. Help us shop our way to better funding for water safety education. Adult Sailing Bob Bahney, III, Bill Boag and Bob Bahney The Swim/Sail season begins on Monday, June 16th. Please visit our dunk tank booth for Founder's Day from 12:30-3:30 p.m. at DeRivera Park. The Annual Put-in-Bay Community Swim Sail Spaghetti dinner is on Saturday June 21st. Please contact Christy Bykowski at christy.bykowski@gmail.com or for sponsorship opportunities and information to donate to this community. Thank You! Nora French Sail Fleet Captain We are definitely looking forward to getting out on the water again. It has been a long cold winter. Again we are putting on a clinic for anyone wishing to hone their sailing skills. It will be held on Saturday June 21 st at 9:00 am. The price is right FREE. It will run from 9:00 AM till noon and 1:00 to 4:00. There is no preregistration, just show up dressed to sail and with a life jacket. We will have videos on boat handling, on shore instruction and on the water instruction and drills. Everyone will have a chance to skipper, plus handle the sails. The Men s Regatta (and Women too) is the next Saturday, June 28 th at 11:00 am. If you would like to sail with us or want more information, do not hesitate to contact me or, for that matter, any of our sailors. We are always happy to talk about sailing. Hope to see you on the water. Betty Bliss, Sail Fleet Captain Manager s Corner June will be a busy month at the club. We will be hosting the 2014 Put-in-Bay High School graduating class, the Mill's Race, the Garden Club, Swim/Sail Spaghetti dinner, Antique Car Club after party, North Coast Estate Planning and our own Maddy Pugh's graduation party. The Wave sailing group will again be sailing on Thursdays and Saturdays. We are advertising to hire a bartender for the club. In the meantime, please give a little of your time and volunteer behind the bar. See the sheet on board. As long as I'm talking about volunteering, HELP is what I need to feed the Mill's Race sailors on Saturday, June 7th. There is a sign up sheet on the board and I have split the time into two shifts. We are no longer letting non-members use our ramp for launching fishing boats. As always, any complaints, suggestions, comments or COM- PLIMENTS are always welcome! Barb Chrysler, Club Manager
