Please bring a leaf blower or rake with you if you can as we will be returning the Club House, the grounds, pavilion, storage areas and docks to their SHIP SHAPE condition prior to the start of our busy summer season. Let s have fun getting ready to enjoy a wonderful summer of activities at the Club. As always, lunch will be provided and free dockage for any member coming to help clean up our club. There will be a Board Meeting immediately following lunch. For Dockage please contact Barb at For any other information please contact Gina Trebilcock at gmtreb@gmail.com MEMORIAL SERVICE Sunday, May 29 th at Noon Each year on Memorial Day weekend, PIBYC holds a brief service honoring those members who have passed away since the last Memorial Day. The officers hold a service on the dock, and each member is commemorated by a red rose placed into the Bay from our dock by our auxiliary. Please make us aware of any current or past members who have passed away since last May, even if you think we already know. Contact either Marilyn Paselsky at or paselsky@insight.rr.com or Barb Chrysler at manager@pibyc.org 2016
2 COMMODORE S BRIEFING Happy Vice Commodore Debbie Drake Larson started the year with a great Winter Doldrums weekend that was well attended. Both Vice Commodore Debbie, Rear Commodore Gina Trebilcock, Sailing Fleet Captain Doug Seib and Power Fleet Captain Tom Priesman are putting together another event filled season for everyone. Please make sure to check the Jib Sheets and Club calendar on our website when you are making your Island plans. Don t forget that volunteering for any of the Clubs activities is always appreciated and it is a great way to have fun and meet new friends. Our yearbook editor, Marilyn Paselsky, is hard at work gathering photos, ads and input for this year s book if you have any they would be appreciated. I would like to thank Bob Bahney, Jr. for keeping an eye on the Club over the winter and addressing any problems that came up. We are looking forward to kicking off our season at our annual Spring Clean-up on Saturday, May 14 th (see article for details). We re looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible to help get our Club Ships Shape for the 2016 Season. Please plan on joining us! If your plans bring you to the Island on Memorial Day Weekend please join us for our Memorial Service at noon on Sunday, May 29 th followed by our Eye Opener Brunch at 12:30 p.m. Looking forward to seeing everyone at one of the many Club activities this summer. Happy Spring everyone, I can t wait to get the season started and see everyone at Clean-Up Day. I am so happy to be working with Commodore Bill Boag and Rear Commodore Gina Trebilcock and our excellent Board of Trustees. We started our 2016 season with our Annual winter meeting and doldrums weekend at the Double Tree in Westlake. It was a great and productive weekend! We also had a lot of new faces that showed up. We have been working this winter to plan some exciting activities for the season and different events. Our annual fundraiser will be held July 30 th, so please plan on attending as we will be Celebrating our new burgee and a 130 years of PIBYC. We will also be working on our Ship s store to make it more profitable and have more access on a regular basis. One of our newer members Christine Booker Keyes has agreed to be our lead volunteer, she has a background in retail and is excited for the challenge. We are so thankful! Peace. VICE COMMODORE S CORNER Debbie Drake Larson Vice Commodore PIBYC Clubhouse Rental Are you planning a wedding reception, reunion, or other private party on Put-in-Bay? The clubhouse is available for rental to members and non-members subject to availability. Contact Barb Chrysler for information and pricing. manager@pibyc.org Bill Boag Commodore

Friday night Happy Hour brought old and new members, and friends together. Saturday s program centered around the memberships Annual Town Hall Meeting with a chance to voice your views or just listen to what s happening around the club and enjoy lunch. The evening dinner was enjoyed round table style at Parker s Grill & Tavern in Avon Lake with wonderful enthusiasm and reservations for 70! As we wait again for Spring to officially spring and shower us with warm weather, we are planning ahead to May and the next few Club events: Spring Clean- Up at PIBYC! Kindly check your favorite job and sign in via the link on the first page of this Jib Sheet so that we can get as accurate a count as possible! This is a fun and gratifying morning of indoor and outdoor club shipshaping followed by a hearty sandwich meal all hands are welcome! Sunday of Memorial Day weekend plan to join us for a very beautiful Memorial Day tribute that is open to all. The short 30-minute ceremony will begin with a procession to the docs for service under the PIBYC pavilion. The EYE OPENER BRUNCH on Sunday will immediately follow. Please RSVP here via the following link (use the same instructions as above CLICK on the link below to open): MEMORIAL DAY EYE OPENER BRUNCH LINK These are all great opportunities to bring your family and good friends to the club and encourage new membership! Spread the word about joining and the charming atmosphere of PIBYC! Gina Trebilcock Rear Commodore POWER FLEET CAPTAIN The 2016 cruising season is fast approaching. Mild winter weather has allowed many of us to launch early this year. Kathy and I have been planning the cruise outs for this year and we will be including some of the previous destinations and exploring some new ones. The shakedown cruise in June will include ports of call in Huron and Vermilion. The July cruise out will incorporate Lake St. Clair and the St. Clair River. Our ports of call will be Toledo Beach Marina, North Channel Yacht Club, Port Huron and Detroit Yacht Club. We are planning two separate cruise outs in August. We will once again go to Pelee Island/Leamington and a second cruise out to Cleveland. With the RNC Convention in Cleveland in July, Cleveland may be an exciting destination in August with many new businesses. In September we are looking at Sandusky/Cedar Point. All of these cruise outs are in the planning stages and we would welcome any suggestions. At each of these cruise outs there will be day trips planned on water (dingy) and on land. All cruise outs can be done in full or part. Anyone wishing to visit a cruise out by land, overnight accommodations are available at most ports. We also are trying to plan a CRUISE IN. With many of our cruising members not living on the island we thought it may be nice to get together in PIB. We are possibly going to incorporate a wine tasting with this event. We have welcomed several new members who want to cruise with us. We look forward to seeing our existing cruising members and meeting new ones. Any suggestions or questions, please us at tpriesman@crosserfuneralhome.com. Tom Priesman Power Fleet Captain
4 Good Day Members, Hope your off season went well. April is time to get the boats out of storage. For sailors to check their rigging and order new sails and powerboats to check the engines and slap on another coat of bottom paint. Soon we ll all be on the water, enjoying our return to The Bay. The Wave fleet has decided to change our Weekday series to sail on Friday afternoons at 1pm. The first Friday will be May 20 th. We hope that this opens up the opportunity for more of you who don t reside on the island during the week to join us when you come up on Friday. The weekend series will continue on Saturdays at Noon starting on May 21 st. In June I will start to provide sailing lessons again for anyone who wants to participate on Sunday mornings starting the 19 th at 10am. Please check the club calendar for a complete listing of our race dates. Sail for Fun! SAIL FLEET CAPTAIN Doug Seib Sail Fleet Captain AUXILIARY NEWS Summertime means the return of old friends I can t wait to see everyone and catch up. We had a meeting in January to plan our 2016 season. June 14 th we will host a swim/sail welcome back potluck at the club. Complimentary burgers and hotdogs along with potluck dishes will be provided. We will also be hosting a yard sail to raise money for the sailors as well as the auxiliary. Keep an eye out for our new Kids Corner. We are planning weekly events for the kids. Also, weekly workouts - join us for yoga on the dock-dates will be posted ASAP. These events are some of the ideas we came up with at our annual meeting. If anyone has any other ideas, please give us a call. Until then Peace. Mary Boag French Ladies Auxiliary President CLUB MANAGER I will be back in the office on Friday, April 15th getting organized for a busy season. I hope you all stop in to say hi! Our annual clean-up day is Saturday, May 14th. Please make plans to come and help get the club ready for the season. We will have free lunch for everyone and for those of you boating in, we will be offering free dockage for the night. Call for dockage reservations (419) Most of the staff will be returning for this season but I still need a dock master. This position can be full or part time. If you know of anyone who would qualify please have them call or the office. I am looking forward to working with the new Bridge. One important thing we will be taking a hard look at are Friday night dinners. This is an area of the club that is losing money. We need ALL of your suggestions, comments, complaints so we can figure out how we can make these popular dinners profitable. Your opinion IS important and appreciated! As always, we want the club to be a fun place. Please check the calendar and plan to attend our different events and don't forget, if you have an idea for something fun, just let us know! See you all soon! Barb Chrysler Club Manager

6 PIBYC 2016 WISH LIST This list is for items that PIBYC currently needs or wants, that are currently not in our budget. If you would like something added to the list please contact Debbie Drake Larson at 1. Improvement to the front sign at PIBYC with a similar style one. We have a member that has the expertise to Accomplish this task, but are in need of donations for material! Thank you in advance! Most Interesting People 2016: Mike and Gina Trebilcock WHY THEY'RE INTERESTING: The husbandand-wife team is breathing new life into the Flats through the Foundry, a youth rowing and sailing training center. Their vision for filling the waterfront with high school and collegiate athletes began with a desire to empower a new wave of young people with the values of teamwork and discipline embodied in nautical sports. Through the project, they'll be able to offer year-round, affordable access to amenities that can finally give rowers and sailors a reason to stay in Cleveland. NO MISTAKE: The Foundry features a boathouse, a rowing-centric gym, indoor rowing tanks and a riverfront park. "When Gina and I were growing up, we always heard Cleveland was 'The Mistake on the Lake,' " says Mike. "I think the mistake really is that the kids aren't on the lake. It's the mission we've taken on." FAMILY TIES: Their three all-star rowing offspring were motivation to pursue the project. Michael rowed at the University of Washington, Alyssa rowed at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in New York, and Kristian, a junior at St. Edward High School, captured a national championship at the Scholastic Rowing Association of America. "Something we noticed with our oldest daughter going off to college is that she immediately had 40 very close friends as part of the rowing program," recalls Mike. FUTURE PLANS: For Michael's senior project in high school, he worked with a local architect to map out a family training center. Later, he decided a rowing center would have been a more beneficial way to train during the winter months. It sparked the idea for the Foundry. "We're kind of marching to his vision," Mike says. LIVING ON THE EDGE: Both Mike and Gina were raised less than a mile away from Edgewater Park and live nearby today. "It's been great to see the park evolve," says Gina. "When I was growing up, we were pretty much told not to go into the water. The transition that's taken place has been really beautiful." PERFORMANCE ART: Gina, a former ballerina, finds similar beauty in rowing and considers it more art than sport. "It has so much precision and timing," she says. TRAIL BLAZERS: Although Mike and Gina aren't rowers, sports have long played an important role in their lives. Gina was a gymnast and Mike played tennis and ran marathons. Today, they both enjoy cruising the Cleveland Metroparks bike trail. "It's truly the jewel of Cleveland," admires Gina. You'll have to engage our new Rear Commodore in conversation, as she and her husband Mike were voted one of Cleveland's most interesting people. Congratulations! ENTREPRENEURS, 55 and 53
