RULES 1.1 The Regatta will be governed by the current rules as defined in the International Sailing Federation Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 1.2 The Prescriptions and Special Regulations of Australian Sailing (AS) Part 2 shall apply 1.3 The relevant Class Rules shall apply 1.4 Appendix T (Arbitration) shall apply. 1.5 The International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea 1972 (COLREGS) shall apply at all times. The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) will apply only between those ships that are participating in the event, for the duration of the event. Should interaction occur with nonparticipating ships, then COLREGS shall apply to all ships and shall over-ride all other rules. This is a condition imposed by Gold Coast Waterways Authority within our Aquatic Event Authority 2. NOTICES TO COMPETITORS Notices to competitors will be posted on the Official Notice Board located outside the Sailing Office at the Southport Yacht Club Hollywell Sailing Squadron, 1 Marina Crescent, Hollywell, Qld CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS Any change to the sailing instructions will be posted not less than two hours before it will take effect, except that any change to the schedule of races will be broadcast by 1700 hours on the day before it will take effect. 4. SIGNALS MADE ASHORE 4.1. Signals made ashore will be displayed at the Southport Yacht Club Hollywell Sailing Squadron race control tower When flag AP is displayed ashore, 1 minute is replaced with not less than 20 minutes in race signal AP. 5. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS 5.1. Registration will be open at the SYC Hollywell Sailing Squadron Sailing Office from 0800 hours on the day of the first race The time of the Warning Signal is deemed to be Not Before When more then one race will be held on the same day, the Warning Signal for each succeeding race will be made as soon as practicable No warning signal will be sounded after 1430hrs on Sunday 4 th February Date EVENT Time Friday 2 nd February Registration 0800hrs Compulsory Skippers Briefing 0930hrs Warning not before 1025hrs Saturday 3 rd February Compulsory Skippers Briefing 0915hrs Morning Session Warning not before 0955hours Afternoon Session Warning not before 1330hours Sunday 4 th February Compulsory Skippers Briefing 0915hours Final Session Warning not before 1055hours Competitor BBQ & Presentation 1600hrs 6. DIVISIONS & CLASS FLAGS 6.1. There will be two (2) divisions. Sub Divisions may be created at the discretion of the Racing Committee 6.2. Division One (Nacra 5.8, Nacra 15, A Class, F18, F16, Tornado), CLASS FLAG will be an Orange M on a Lime Green Background 6.3. Division Two (Hobie 16, Nacra 16sq, Nacra 4.5, Hobie 14, Nacra 430), CLASS FLAG will be Code Flag R 7. RACING AREA The racing area will be the Broadwater, incorporating the Deep Hole and around Crab Island. Please refer to Appendix A

3 8. THE COURSES 8.1. Course to be sailed will be Windward/Leeward Type and Passage Race courses. Please refer to Appendix B 9. MARKS 9.1. In accordance with Appendix B, marks A, B, C, D & E will be Orange inflatable cylindrical buoys approx 1.8m x 0.9m The Start mark will be a Black & White chequered inflatable buoy approx 1.5 x 0.6m 9.3. The Finish mark will be a Black & White chequered inflatable buoy approx 1.5 x 0.6m 9.4. All IALA Buoyage System Lateral Navigation Marks located to the north of and including CRAB WEST CARDINAL (CWC) shall be observed and passed or rounded as marks of the course (in accordance with Maritime Safety Queensland Regulations and navigation convention All Competitors must maintain a minimum distance of 3 metres from all navigation marks including Marks X, J & S. 10. THE START Races will be started using Rule 26 with the Warning Signal given five (5) minutes before the Starting Signal The Starting Line will be between a staff displaying an orange flag or shape on the Race Control SYC Support Boat and the Starting Mark A boat starting later than 10 minutes after her starting signal will be scored Did Not Start. This changes Rule A4 & A CHANGE OF THE POSITION OF THE NEXT MARK To change the position of the next mark, the race committee will move the original mark (or the finishing line) to a new position. The change will be signalled before the leading boat has begun the leg with code flag C and sound signals, although the mark may not yet be in the new position. Any mark to be rounded after rounding the moved mark may be relocated without further signalling to maintain the course configuration. 12. THE FINISH The finishing line will be between a staff displaying an orange flag or shape on the Race Control SYC Support Boat and the Finishing Mark. 13. PENALTY SYSTEM 13.1 RRS 44.1 is changed so that the Two-Turns Penalty is replaced by the One-Turn Penalty. 14. TIME LIMITS The Time Limit for the first boat to sail the course and finish will be 60 minutes Boats failing to finish within 20 minutes after the first boat sails the course and finishes or within the time limit, whichever is later, will be scored Did Not Finish (DNF). This changes Rule 35 and A4 & A One race of the series will be a long passage race and the time limit for this race will be 220 minutes. 15. PROTESTS AND REQUESTS FOR REDRESS Appendix T (Arbitration) shall apply Protest Forms are available at the SYC Hollywell Sailing Office. Protests shall be delivered there within the protest time limit The protest time limit is one (1) hour after the last boat has finished in the last race of the day for each class Notices will be posted within 30 minutes of the protest time limit to inform competitors of hearings in which they are parties or named as witnesses. Hearings will be held in the Sailing Office Breaches of instructions 17 will not be grounds for a protest by a boat. This changes RRS 60.1(a). Penalties for breaches of these rules and SIs marked with a [DP] may be less than disqualification. The scoring abbreviation for a discretionary penalty imposed under this instruction will be ENP.

SCORING The Low Point Scoring System, RRS Appendix A as modified by A9 will apply, Two (2) races are required to constitute a series A boat s series score will be the total of all her race scores All results will be calculated on class ratings (VYC) 17. SAFETY REGULATIONS Sign-On and Sign-Off: All boats must sign-on before leaving the shore and sign-off as soon as practicable after returning to shore at the completion of the session s racing. Sign On/Off station is located in front of the Sailing Office The Sign-On period will close at the scheduled Warning Signal time of the first race for that session on that day. Competitors who did not sign-on for the first race in a session but wish to sign on for subsequent races in that session must sign-on prior to launching then inform the Start Boat of their intention to race The Sign-Off period for each Class will close at the protest cut-off time for each class Failure to sign-on or sign-off in accordance with SI 17.1, 17.2 and 17.3 will result in competitors being penalized not less than 2 points, but not worse than a DNC A boat that retires from a race shall notify the race committee as soon as possible. 18. REPLACEMENT OF CREW OR EQUIPMENT A boat shall not change specifications after the close of entries. Any change to the skipper or crew, hull, spars, sails, foils or equipment may be made only with the express written consent of the Racing Committee Substitution of damaged or lost equipment will not be allowed unless approved by the Racing Committee. Requests for substitution shall be made to the Racing Committee at the first reasonable opportunity. 19. PRIZES Prizes will be awarded to First, Second and Third places overall on VYC calculations for Division 1 and Division 2. Other prizes may be awarded at the discretion of the Organising Authority. 20. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY Competitors participate in Southport Yacht Club events entirely at their own risk. See Rule 4 (Decision to Race). The organising authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta. 21. INSURANCE Every boat shall hold current and valid Public Liability and Third Party Insurance coverage for the sum of not less than AUD$10Million.
