In very strong wind situations (over 40 knots) and in the case of major intervention boating safety, the organization can be lead to CUT YOUR LINES! and/or OTHER PART OF YOUR EQUIPMENT.

2 Le Défi Kite de Gruissan. Edition #5 An original contest, which brings together pros and amateurs on a long distance race. 400 kitesurfers on the starting line! This is not an usual race... The Defi Kite is a race, organized for everyone, pros and amateurs. Nevertheless you are the only one who can judge if you are able or not to run in the hard conditions you could meet in Gruissan. In very strong wind situations (over 40 knots) and in the case of major intervention boating safety, the organization can be lead to CUT YOUR LINES! and/or OTHER PART OF YOUR EQUIPMENT. It means, your kite can be definitely lost. To launch a race, the average wind must be over 15 knots minimum and the safety device has to be deployed entirely (40 buoys and 30 boats). So there is few possibilities to run the Defi Kite with a South East wind and waves! The best wind direction is still our dear TRAMONTANA WIND. The tramontana accelerates passing between the Pyrenees and the south of the Massif central. Sometimes the tramontana and the mistral are confused, but they are two different winds. Mistral and tramontane are caused by the same type of meteorological configuration, Mistral and Tramontane have the same character and produce the same type of effect. One race = 20 to 40 km, that is equivalent to 1

5 Play Ground Gruissan, an exceptional sailing zone that you have to understand to manage the race as much as you can. It goes from the Chalet beach (main Defi Site) to Port la Nouvelle, 10km away. You have to know that the wind is always stronger (5 to 10nds more) at Port la Nouvelle than at Gruissan. One race = 20 to 40 km, that is equivalent to 1 or 2 return trips. It s a real challenge that require a serious physical preparation. Conditions Générales Page 5 / 15

6 Admission >REGISTRATION Entries will be opened from March 1st entries are available for 2017 The registration guide is available on During the first registration period (from March, 1st until May, 1st) > Registration fees are fixed During the second registration period (from May, 2th until May, 19th) > Registration fees are significantly increased > MINIMUM AGE At least 14 years old on January, 1 st 2017 > NATIONAL SAILING PERMIT A national sailing permit is compulsory. A National Sailing Permit from a foreign country is valid to take part in an official contest in France such as the Defi Kite. If you don t have any, a temporary insurance FFV is required and is delivered by the Defi Kite on demand, during the registration process. > IDENTIFICATION OF PARTICIPANTS The identification of the participants is established by assigning an unique and personal numbered bib. The numbered bib is delivered by the organization and included in the registration fees. The numbered bib is subject to a 30 deposit that you will have to give on Friday 19 th during the numbered bib claim. It will be gave back of the last day of competition (Sunday May 21 th ) in exchange for the numbered bib. > DISTRIBUTION OF THE NUMBERED BIB TO CONFIRM YOUR PRESENCE The presence of each competitor is required in order to confirm your presence on the contest. Minors will have to be under the supervision of an adult during the whole contest period ( Presence confirm, Briefing, full day competition) An identity document is required. If it is impossible for you to be present during the numbered bib distribution, please let us know. If you don t, we will give your numbered bib to someone from the waiting list. > DEFINITIVE ADMISSION An incomplete file will not be considered and systematically placed in the waiting list. A complete file is a file including all the information requested + all mandatory documents + registration fees. > PARENTAL AUTHORIZATION Mandatory form for minors (- 18). A responsible adult will have to be identified in the parental authorization (legal guardian or supervisor). Minors will have to be under the supervision of an adult during the whole contest period ( Presence confirm, Briefing, full day competition) > REGISTRATION FEES In case of non-participation and / or cancellation: Registration fees will NOT be REFUND. Once sent, the registration is considered as final. Registration fees include: > General Organization Fees > The T-shirt and the official bag It does NOT include: > The online registration platform management fees > The temporary Insurance FFV (compulsory if you don t own a National Sailing Permit) > CRITERIA FOR SELECTION 380 first entries + 20 places reserved for the organization (PRO / VIP / Guests). > WAITING LIST From the 401 st Criteria of selection: Post stamp date If equal on the day, has the priority: > The Female category > The Young category > The largest number of participation in the Defi (if equal, the one who participated the more recently) > Random draw for other categories > MEDICAL CERTIFICATE A medical certificate of suitability and fitness for the purpose of practicing competitive kitesurfing. 7 Rules > PRIORITY SAFETY Beyond the rules of priority, every rider has to do his best to avoid a collision. Some official rules: - On the same way, the one who overtake has to stay away from the one who is overtaken. - On different ways, the one who is port side (left hand near the mast) has to stay away from the one who is starboard (right hand near the mast). - On different ways, the kitesurfer downwind has to put his/her kite down, the kitersurfer windward has to put his/ her kite up. > THE SIGN IN AND SIGN OUT, BEFORE AND AFTER THE RACE IS COMPULSORY You have to sign at the signature table EQUIPED WITH YOUR NUMBERED BIB before you start running. You have to sign again when you are back, even if you have given up. This system allows us to know who is back and if we have to go and look for you in the water. An outsider is NOT allowed to sign for you. Caution: the no-respect of the start or back signature brings the permanent exclusion of the Defi Kite. Of course, you also have to respect all the other rules of the organization. > THE RACE One round trip crosswind of at least 8 miles (15km). There is no maximum distance! > THE LIMIT TIME No limit time. For the security of everyone, the organization can take the decision to stop the last participant. > THE DISCARDS Only one discard will be retained from 3 races and whatever the final number of races. > THE START It is a rabbit start. You have to cross the line after the rabbit (the boat). The count of the starting procedure (H- 60 ) is announced on the beach. The rabbit goes from the bottom line (the offshore point), headed for the beach. > THE ARRIVAL It is judged by the arrival boat and a buoy just behind. You have to go between the back of the sail-boat and the buoy. Be careful: if your number is not visible, you won t be classified. Caution: if you cross the finish line without having done the entire race, you might be disqualified for the whole of the contest. > THE JURY It is the king, and will do its best for everyone to have fun, for the spirit of the Defi Kite to be expressed and for you to respect it. > THE RACE AREA It is located between the beach and the curtain of safety buoys. It is formally forbidden to leave the race area. > THE SAFETY BUOYS We put a curtain of buoys offshore. They materialize the limit of the race area. If you cross this limit you will be disqualified. Do not hesitate using them as resting spot by hanging on them. It is a good way to stand by or to wait for a security boat without deviating. > THE EQUIPMENT - A certified impact and flotation vest of 50N minimum or a certified impact vest is mandatory - An isothermal wetsuit is compulsory for everyone (at least 3mm Shorty). - You have to wear your numbered bib. You have to wear it over all other equipment (bag, camel bag ). The number has to be legible as long as you run; it is the only way for the organization to identify you. If you give up, you have to report your number instead of your name. - You have to carry a 3 meters long of rope (minimum 4 mm of diameter) in order to hang up easily to a boat or a buoy. - The weighty vest is forbidden. - A helmet is compulsory. > CATEGORIES By gender : MEN / WOMEN By age categories: - Master (40 and +) - Senior (18-39 years old) - Young (-18 years old) > RANKING - By gender, all categories - By categories - By points First = 0.7 pts Second & following up = place (2nd = 2 points, ) Abandon = Number of participants + 1 Do not start = Number of participants + 2 Disqualified = Number of participants + 5 Conditions Générales Page 7 / 15

8 Basics 400 REGISTRATION ARE OPEN The contest - Minimum level recommended: to be able to sail upwind. To know the emergency gesture, to know the ColReg (Collision Regulations), to know how to us the security systems. - No «official» start will take place in wind < 15 knots. - A certified impact and flotation vest of 50N minimum or a certified impact vest is mandatory. - Weight vest shall be strictly prohibited. - Wearing a wetsuit is compulsory. - Wearing a helmet is compulsory. - There is no restriction on the equipment (the rider has to take into account the weather report and forecast and to take into account his/her level level in his/her gear choice). - Identification will be through a numbered bib allocated by the organization. The registration - Minimum age required: to be 14 years old on January, 1 st To own a National Sailing Permit is required (Annual or temporary FFV Insurance). - A medical certificate of suitability and fitness for the purpose of practicing competitive kitesurfing, issued less than one year before the last day of the contest. - The presence of each competitor is required during the numbered bib distribution. - Any «incomplete» registration file will NOT be considered and systematically placed on the waiting list - A complete REGISTRATION is a REGISTRATION that includes: ALL REQUESTED INFORMATION + ALL DOCUMENTS REQUIRED. [ Signed Registration Form + Sailing Permit + Medical Certificate + Registration Fees ] - Confirmation of registration will be notified by within 15 days of receipt of your complete registration file. - The numbered bib is subject to a deposit. A 30 deposit will be ask during the numbered bib distribution. The organization will give back the deposit on the last day of competition (May, Sunday, 21 th ) in exchange for the numbered bib.
