The machine user must cmply with the regulatins indicated belw t achieve the highest pssible safety threshld. Open r remved guards represent very dangerus safety hazards as this can cause injuries and cuts. The same ges fr mechanical hand enclsures (rbt). Cver grilles, grid bars r cver grids are usually already fitted fastened at the time f supply. They can nly be remved using tls. Machines featuring such devices must nly be perated when these are munted and fixed. In the case f set-up verhauling, inspectin and maintenance peratins, pwer must always be interrupted t the mtr by discnnecting f the phase leads (pwer leads) If a machine requires ther energy surces-pneumatic, hydraulic, steam r ht water- such supplies must als be interrupted r stpped and the pipes inside the machine must be restred t pressure zer. Heated r cled machine parts must be treated with special cautin due t the risk f burns.. A machine that has been shut dwn by an emergency buttn must nt be started again as sn as this buttn has been reset. The machine will nly start again when the master switch is perated. Imprtant : the emergency mtr stp buttn shuld be placed clse t the machine. THE RUNNING IN CAVITATION, THAT IS WITH LIQUID LEVEL REACHING THE IMPELLER, IS FORBIDDEN IN ORDER TO AVOID MECHANICAL DAMAGES AND/OR COLLATERAL DAMAGES, BECOUSE OF THE HIGH FATIGUE STRENGTH OF THE AGITATOR. 4 1. General The purpse f this manual is t prvide the necessary infrmatin fr the installatin, use and maintenance f the mixer. The mixer is manufactured fr an industrial purpse and it must be installed and perated nly by qualified technicians wh knw applicable directives and accepted cdes f gd practice. The user must read this manual and the enclsures befre using the mixer. Imprper use culd damage the mixer and cause the frfeiture f the warranty cverage. The mixer is NOT a ready t use machine, but is a cmpnent part and it is a POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS device because it has rtating parts that culd cause serius injury in case f cntact with persn r bjects. All the rtating parts f the mixer must be segregated in a way that makes impssible the cntact with persns, animals r bjects when the mtr is energized. The respnsibility fr final prduct safety and cmpliance with applicable directives rests with the manufacturer r the assembler wh incrprate the mixer as cmpnent part. E' abslutely frbidden t put in service the agitatr befre that the machinery in which will cme incrprated is declared in cmpliance with the enfrced applicable nrms f SAFETY. When asking ur ffice fr technical infrmatin r spare parts, please indicate the mdel identificatin and the cnstructin number fund n the nameplate. The fllwing instructin and warnings refer t the standard mdels with electric mtr; fr any variatins r characteristics f special versins please refer als t the enclsures and t the sales cntract. Fr any instructins r situatins nt referred t in this manual r in the sales dcumentatin, please cntact ur ffice. 2. Preliminary inspectin Upn delivery check the integrity f the packaging. After unpacking the mixer make sure that n damage has ccurred during shipping (check particularly the linearity f the lng shaft). Shuld the mixer be damaged, write a reprt tgether with the carrier, r writing «materials acceptance with reservatin» n the delivery nte. D nt install the mixer and advise PRO-DO-MIX srlwithin 3 wrking days. UNPACKING AND STORAGE The packaging must be carefully examined n receipt in rder t ensure that the cntents have nt sustained any bvius damage. Examine the cntents and check them ff against the delivery nte. The equipment is delivered in 2 packages, 1 packages fr the shaft, 1 package fr the prpeller and the reducer gear (eventually equipped with the mtr). STORAGE PRECAUTIONS Strage fr less than six mnths: Equipment shall preferably be stred in its riginal packaging, prtected frm adverse weather cnditins end impacts, and nt t near t vibrating devices as the resulting vibratins my cause wear n the bearings and mechanical mating faces. Strage fr mre than six mnths : cnsult us. Nte The shaft shuld be stred hrizntally. Any prlnged strage befre r after use, in particular envirnmental cnditins (humidity, salinity, vibratins r crrsin) shrtens the guarantee applicatin. GreenLine AD-AL.ING rev 2.0 pag. 4 di 16

6. Applicatins The mixer is designed fr mixing the fluid with the characteristics (installatin, fluid typlgy, density, viscsity, temperature, etc.) specified in the cntractual dcuments (ec. rder cnfirmatin). In lack f these specificatins is up t the installatr the check abut the mixer cmpatibility (ec. materials, gasket, etc.) with the exercise. T mix fluids ther than specified in the cntractual dcuments r t perate under different cnditins ther than specified in the cntractual dcuments, may cause damage t the mixer and / r injury t persns. 7. Wrking limits If nt differently specified in the sales dcuments and certificates: the fllwing data and limits will be respected: The mixer is nt suitable fr dangerus r flammable fluids and it is nt intended fr use in ptentially explsive atmspheres. Minimum and maximum wrking pressure: ATMOSPHERIC Fluid t be mixed : see what specified in rder, S.G. max.1,1 kg/dm³, viscsity max.100 cp (if n therwise specified) Minimum and maximum temperature f mixed fluid: 0 80 C (max45 C with lining) NEVER run with prpeller in cavitatin (emptying and filling f the vessel) : danger t break ff the shaft NEVER drive the mixer by means f inverter befre setting the pints f the first rtatinal critical speed : danger t break ff the equipment Minimum and maximum ambient temperature: 0 40 C Maximum altitude f installatin: m abve mean sea level Maximum number f starts per hur : : Pwer until 5,5 kw Pwer until 15 kw Pwer superir with 15 kw Installazine 8.1 Handling The mixer must be handled with care using suitable histing equipment. Fr lifting the mixer d nt use fragile parts (mtr terminal bx, hand-wheel r mtr cap, etc.) and als d nt use lifting lugs eventually installed n mtr, because the scpe f such lifting lug, if present, is t lift the single cmpnent and nt the mixer. D nt use the mixer shaft, if the shaft is bended it can cause vibratins and malfunctin. The best way fr lifting the mixer is t wrap up apprpriately the mtr, the reducer r the lantern if present, aviding t bend the shaft. If the shaft and ther parts are lined with plastic lining Abcite r PP, these prtectins are very delicate and can be damaged very easily, fr this reasn remve the prtective devices nly when the mixer is placed n site. 8.2 Operating psitin The mixers type AD and AL are usually installed in a vertical psitin, with the mtr upward, n the tp f a tank r vessel. When the vessel is cylindrical, the baffles at the vessel wall are necessary. They can be three r fur fllwing the design f the agitatr impeller. Three baffles at 120 if the impeller has 3 blades, fur baffles at 90 if the impeller has 4 r 2 blades. The suggested characteristics are : Width : T/10, where T is the vessel diameter. In the case the baffles are distant frm the wall, prvide a clearance f 2% referring the vessel and a width f baffles f 8%. GreenLine AD-AL.ING rev 2.0 pag. 8 di 16
With slid suspensin r slid disslutin as mixing purpse, the baffles ff the wall are preferred. Height : the same f the maximum liquid level, usually until the vessel bttm except in the case f presence f slids in suspensin (100 mm abut ff the bttm) 4 baffles at 90 r 3 baffles at 120 Exemple : fr tank f 3 m de diameter les baffles will have the width f 0,30 m r 0,24 m et will be clear f the wall 0,06 m. 8.3 Psitining Befre installing the mixer it is necessary t verify the fllwing pints: The space available arund and n the tp f the tank / vessel, taking int cnsideratin the shaft length and the space required fr the mtr cling. The stiffness and the dimensining f the supprt structure, cnsidering the static and dynamic lads. The mixer must nt be subject t scillatins r vibratins in peratin. Fr utdr installatins it is recmmended the use f the rain canpy ver the mtr. The dimensin f the tank penings fr the intrductin f the impellers, guide bearings, etc. 8.4 Fixing The mixer must be securely fixed t the relative supprt by blts, clamp r any ther apprpriate device. The blts must be always the maximum size permitted by the hle f the cnnectin device. The impellers, and all the ther accessries must be securely fixed taking int cnsideratin the parts that are marked fr a prper fitting. It is mandatry t check the shaft be vertical and that shaft can rtate withut any frictin against fixed parts f the vessel r its accessries. We strngly suggest t blck all screwing devices with a n-permanent lcking like LOCTITE 242 Threadlcker r similar, buyable near all the blacksmith shps, against the unlcking f the screw during the exercise, als in presence f vibratins, withut any prblem during the disassembling phase f the maintenance. It is well knw this result can be achieved using the many and varius tls made fr cntrlled tightening. Less well knw are the implicatins resulting frm the use f these tls and the cnditin f the screws used. Experience teaches hw screws tightening is nt always dne accurately even using suitable tls designed specifically fr that purpse. Often a number f simple peratins, necessary fr crrect tightening, g ignred. T ensure these receive due attentin, we shall start frm the pint that is at the very bttm f the prblem tightening tensin. - Tightening tensin The duratin f screw cnnectins is mainly determined by whsever des the tightening and t a much lesser extent by the screw designer r manufacture. Of curse, the safety f a cnnectin increases if the design is gd and the screw is f gd quality. Figures g t shw hwever that it is insufficient tightening r ver-tightening that mainly g t determine the quality f a cnnectin - t a greater r lesser extent accrding t hw severe the cnditins f use are. It fllws that t ensure a cnnectin lasts as lng as pssible, the screw must be crrectly preladed s as t reduce t the utmst the difference between maximum and minimum perating stress. The diagram belw shws defrmatin frces prduced n a screw cnnectin and relevant effects: the applicatin f a prelad causes the screw t lengthen and, at the same time, the cupled parts t shrten. The wrk lad is partially distributed n the screw and partially absrbed by relaxatin f the parts themselves. Prelad Wrklad, kg tensin range N. f supprted n screws, kg kg cycles 650 frm 0 t frm 0 t frm 0 t frm 0 t t 20,000,000 test interrupted Cntrlled tightening peratins Numerus system exist fr tightening at pre-established values. The mst simple and effective is the use f spanners r trque meter screwdrivers, with the aid f trque amplifiers in case higher value are required than the strength f the peratr permits. The tensin cnveyed t the screw during cntrlled tightening is nevertheless cnditined by the frictin frce prduced bth between the threads f the screw and nut (r threaded hle) are between the screw head (degree f finish, surface treatment) and the tightening speed. GreenLine AD-AL.ING rev 2.0 pag. 10 di 16
PRO-DO-MIX srl Frictin frces Special studies carried ut have made it pssible t ascertain that, in extreme case, nly 10% f the trque prduced by the peratr is cnveyed t the screw, while the remaining 90% is absrbed by frictin. In the case f screw with a thin lubricatin cvering, as supplied by mst manufactures, the frictin cefficient is This drps t 0.10 fr cadmium plated screws and rises t ver 0.2 fr nn-lubricated screws. The trque wrench settings fr the different classes f nuts and blts shwn n the fllwing pages have been calculated taking int accunt 0.10 and 0.14 frictin cefficients. N relatin can be prvided here, nt even apprximate, between these trques and thers resulting frm different frictin cefficients because very cmplicated calculatins are required t determine these. Tightening speed We have already spken f the effect f tightening speed n the frictin cefficient value. Slw tightening increases this while fast tightening reduces it. Test carried ut n M10 screws class 10.9 slightly lubricated, have shwn fr example: Rpm frictin cefficient 0,2 0,186 3,3 0,46 36,0 0,26 In the first case, an 8% reduced tensin is prduced, while in the third case, this is 4% abve the ptimum value btained by applying a speed f 3.3 rpm, cnsidered in the intermediate case, that in fact crrespnds t a 90 angle in 4-5 secnd. It is therefre abslutely vital that the peratr adapt t this speed with a cnstant and cntinuus actin an that n reaching 75% f the necessary value the actin be slwed dwn at the limit f 2 angle degrees per secnd, as prvided by ISO 7355 standards relating t the use f dynammetric wrenches. All the cnditins will thus be cmplied with cnsidered in calculating the trque wrench setting and cnsequently the tightening tensin, a vital characteristic f the cnnectin. This will be equivalent t r in any case very clse t that f the prject. Angular tightening Crrect tightening can als be achieved by measuring the screw rtatin angle after pre-tightening at lw values with a dynammetric wrench. This methd prvides a degree f precisin higher than that explained previusly because it is in n way affected by general frictin frces, screw cnditin and tightening speed. It des hwever have its limits inasmuch as the angular values must in all cases f use be predetermined by the designer f the cnnectin as the depend n the elastic characteristics f the cnnected elements, n their size and n the quality f the screw. use is prevalent in the autmtive industry. Angular tightening is dne using a gnimetric instrument. In the specific case f tightening agitatr shaft cupling screws r blade hubs, tightening with a dynammetric wrench is mre than enugh, after making sure there are n undesired slid particles n the surface t be jined tgether, checking the screw material and that the threads are adequately lubricated. 9. Start-up 9.1 Electrical cnnectins Befre starting wrk n the mixer, make sure that the electricity supply has been switched ff and that it cannt be accidentally switched n. Grund the mixer befre making any ther cnnectin. We recmmend that a high sensitivity differential switch (30 ma) be installed as extra prtectin against lethal electric shcks in the event f faulty grunding. Make sure that the rated vltage crrespnds t the supply vltage Cnnect the mixer t the mains using a multiple-ple switch r ther device ensuring multiple-ple discnnectin (interruptin f all the supply wires) frm the mains, with a cntact separatin f at least 3 mm. Remve the terminal bard cver by first remving the screws. Carry ut the cnnectins as indicated n the back f the terminal bard cver and as shwn in the specific figure f the mtr manual. GreenLine AD-AL.ING rev 2.0 pag. 11 di 16
The electric mtr supply must be equipped by the user with a magnet-thermal switch r magnetic starter with verlad and under vltage prtectin, a thermal relay and fuses installed upstream. The verlad relay must be set t the rated mtr current value. WARNING : dn t frget t branch the grund terminal f the mtr (PE) (fig. 9.1) t the grunding line. Fig. 9.1 : mtr terminal bx fig. 9.1a : fig. 9.1b Link t 230 V trheefase Link t 400 V threefase 9.2 Checking the Directin f Rtatin The directin f rtatin may be checked befre the tank / vessel is filled with the fluid t be mixed, prvided it is run fr very shrt starts nly. The mixer must nt be run until the tank / vessel is filled with liquid. Cntinuus dry running (if nt stated in the sales dcuments) can damage the eventual mechanical seal r bend the shaft. The mixer must nt be started (if nt stated in the sales dcuments) if the impeller is immersed in sediments. Usually the directin f rtatin is clckwise when facing the mixer frm the mtr side, hwever the crrect directin f rtatin is shwn by an arrw n the mixer. If necessary reverse the directin f rtatin by interchanging any tw f the incming supply wires. (nly fr threephase electric mtr. Fr ther mtrs read the relevant manual) 9.3 Cntrls Befre starting up the mixer it is necessary t verify als the fllwing pints: Check that all the screws and blts are tightened. Check that all the rtating parts are nt accessible and all the relevant prtectins are prperly installed. GreenLine AD-AL.ING rev 2.0 pag. 12 di 16
PRO-DO-MIX srl Check that the mixer d nt prduce strange nise. Otherwise stp it immediately. Befre restart identify the cause f the nise. Check that the mixer d nt prduce evident vibratin r scillatin. Otherwise stp it immediately. Befre restart identify the cause f the prblem. Measure the vltage at the mtr terminals and cmpare it with the rated value n the mtr nameplate. Measure the absrbed current f the mtr fr each phase and cmpare it with the rated value n the mtr name-plate. The mtr must never be verladed. 10. Accidents preventin measures 10.1 Imprtant Press the buttn EMERGENCY STOP every time yu find in a dangerus situatin (this buttn cannt be prvided n the agitatr by the manufacturer, s it must be installed clse t the machine by the installer r the End User itself). All the reparatins, especially the nes related with the electrical parts, have t be executed nly by specialised staff. NEVER use the safety devices fr different reasns than the nes they are made fr. Make sure peridically that the safety devices are efficient Every persn wh wrks n the agitatr must be learned abut the safety devices assembled n it, if any (depending n the size f agitatr) and abut their crrect use. NEVER MODIFY OR TAMPER WITH THE SAFETY DEVICES; PRO-DO-MIX srlcmpany is nt respnsible fr the peratins f mdificatin r tampering made by nt qualified staff 10.2 Checks, verificatins and dispsitins Check peridically the cnditin f : O IMPELLER-SHAFT O RIGID COUPLING-AGITATOR SHAFT O TANK AGITATOR FLANGE Verify always the crrect grunding f the machine carpentry On every inspectin-dr presents n the vessel, n which the agitatr is assembled, place a prtectin net in rder t avid cntacts f persns r bject with the inner rtating parts. Vessels shuld be fitted with warning signs calling attentin t the presence f mving parts. ATTENTION : during the emply f agitatrs is abslutely necessary t be very careful nt t disperse the fluids in the surrunding envirnment; sme f them culd be txic r at least dangerus. Cnsult the technical staff f the PRO-DO-MIX srl in rder t chse the crrect installatin f yur agitatr and whatever culd be necessary fr a lng life f the machine and t btain the maximum safety in the use f it. Pay attentin t the tightening f the blts, nut and screws f the agitatr. Check them well at the starting and then peridically, because if the impellers r the cupling wrk lse, it may be generated serius mechanical damages as a cnsequence. Tight the nuts with a dynammetric key, set t the apprpriate trque depending n the nuts supplied with the agitatr with self lcked nes. Reduce the frictin cefficient between nut and blt. We suggest t fix the nut r blt by means f chemical pastes t increase the lcking trend between screwing parts, if the paste is cmpatible with the prcess fluid, bviusly.
