1 CONNECTICUT SKI COUNCIL skiclub.com February, 2019 COUNCIL MEETING: Dear fellow constituents of the Council, As I write this note, I m glancing at a beautiful map. It is slashed in colors of blue and purple, and there are numbers on the map as well they read 4-8 and Almost perfectly bisected by the line between the two colors is my hometown of Ellington. It s been an interesting year so far. For anyone who was at our last Council meeting, we really came together and exercised our democratic muscle in choosing our 2020 OnSnow destination congratulations Waterville Valley! And even though there was great enthusiasm between those voting Waterville and those voting Smuggs a tight race to be sure. We were all a little surprised to have so little engagement from the mountains, especially with the opportunity to bid an extra year in advance. Another program that may experience some changes is our SnowBall Ambassadors program, as we seek this year to re-evaluate its place and function in our modern Council And, of course, all this is to say nothing of our lackluster snowfall after a big bang to start the season back in November. On the other hand, the SnowBall itself was a sensation this year, and many people have already logged many good days of the mountains with the snow guns pumping and a few powder days here and there. Racing got off to a strong start in December and Kids Day is just around the bend with a healthy roster of attendees already. Soon, we will be visiting our friends at Mount Snow for this years winter carnival and, of course, 2019 will mark our Council s return to sponsoring an annual trip as we prepare to visit Madonna di Campiglio roughly two months from now. And, if all that weren t cause enough to be happy, the weather personalities (if they re to be trusted) foretell a potentially VERY white weekend. FROM THE PRESIDENT Here in Ellington, I m not yet sure if I ll be on the 4-8 or 8-14 side of the line (although I ll bet you can guess what I m hoping). Be that as it may, I have a feeling that whatever this storm ends up delivering, it will mean great riding and skiing or us in the weeks ahead. Your brother in Winter, Ben OnSnow Winter Carnival The OnSnow packets have been distributed to all Council clubs. All club information (race rosters, dinner reservations, waivers, and so forth) should be given to the OnSnow coordinators who are listed in the packets. This information is due at the February CSC meeting. If you have any questions or need the packet sent again, contact Jane Suto at hamdenskiclub72@gmail.com. Thanks, Jane Suto Feb. 12, 2019 Time: 7:30 pm LOCATION: The Back 9 at the Stanley Golf Course, New Britain Following meeting: March 12, 2019 SAVE THE DATES!
