1 CONNECTICUT SKI COUNCIL skiclub.com December, 2014 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE GREETINGS ALL! Congratulations to our new CSC Ambassador, Mr. Chris Mierney, from the Meriden Ski Club! We re looking forward to a great year of CSC representation, and I know he ll have a lot of support from everyone. I know, too, that everyone had a great time at yet another fantastic Snowball on November 15. I know I speak for all when I offer special thanks to outgoing Ambassador Lauren Suto, all the club Ambassadors and committee members who worked so hard to bring us a great night of festivities to kick off our ski season. I apologize for not being in attendance to introduce our club Ambassadors and our new CSC Ambassador (work happens), and I thank Past President Bob Kaczmarczyk for stepping in and doing a great job as emcee. There s a lot going on with the CSC racing, Kids Day, Awareness Days, CSC trips, club trips, ski/board swaps, holiday parties, the holidays themselves! I encourage you all to not only take advantage of all the special benefits that go with being a member of a CSC-affiliated club, but to become involved at the Council level and it makes it possible for all of us to enjoy the benefits and many hands make the load lighter! We are in need of a STATE RACE CHAIR, and retiring chair Dennis Suto will mentor the new chair through the process. Our webmaster is looking at ways to revamp the CSC website. Please contact him through the webmaster link on the website, with any input you have on improving the site, making it more user friendly, and moving the process forward. 2 Monday Night Racing The first Monday night race is scheduled for December 22, The 8-week race series continues every Monday night that Mt. Southington is open. Any member of a CSC club age 18 or over can participate in the race league. Mt. Southington has already put some snow down on the hill, and with the projected next few weeks of cold weather, it is very possible that the first race will take place as scheduled. Southington is even planning to be open Thanksgiving weekend! Could be the start of a great season! Get you club team together and join the fun! Age divisions for CSC races (similar to last year): MEN: MA 18-26;MB ; MC 33-38; ME 44-46; MF 47-49; MG 50-51; MH 52-53; MI 54-55; MJ 56-57; MK 58-59; ML 60-63; MM 64-68; MN 69-75; MO 76+ WOMEN: WA 18-29; WB 30-42; WC 43-47; WD 48-51; WE 52-55; WF 56-64; WG 65-68; WH 69+ If anyone has suggestions for changes to the age classes, please let me or your club race captain know. Rob Dexter Monday Night Race Chairman CT Senior Games The CT Senior Games are scheduled for Tuesday, February 24, 2015, at Ski Sundown. Events include a Downhill, Dual GS, and Snowshoe races. The GS will count as a NASTAR race. Age divisions for both men and women are: 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89, 90+. Medals will be awarded for first, second and third place. Any skier over 50 is welcome to compete. Lunch is also available. Go to the Ski Sundown website to sign up. The address is: Skisundown.com/Events. AMBASSADOR S ANGLE A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who helped make this year s Snowball such a success!!! A great time was had by all, with tons of raffle prizes won, and a constantly-packed dance floor! I would also like to thank all of the members of the CSC who I have gotten to meet over the last year as Ambassador. It has been a great experience for me, and I m sure it will be for our next Ambassador as well. I hope everyone will give a warm welcome to our new Ambassador, Chris Mierney, from the Meriden Ski Club. I know he will do an excellent job for the Council. Congratulations Chris, and good luck! I look forward to seeing you all at CSC events through the year. There are no restrictions on the use of the CSC vouchers at Stratton. We have confirmed this with the resort. As announced at the CSC meeting when the vouchers were distributed, there was a misprint, and Stratton vouchers are valid every day, as they have been in previous seasons. 5 KIDS DAY Kids Lesson Day at Okemo For kids participating in the lessons at Okemo on Saturday, December 13, please note that these lessons are being given by CSC volunteer certified instructors, and NOT OKEMO. Lift tickets are $44 (it is a CSC Awareness Day) and can be purchased at any ticket window with your club ID card. Participating kids will receive a $20 rebate when they register at the desk that morning. (They must already have purchased a lift ticket.) Be sure to be at the registration desk located at the clock tower at the main base lodge on time to have an instructor assigned to you. All kids must be registered between 7:45 and 8:30 that morning.
