Why is it such a big deal? Dr. James Done is a climate scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), Boulder Colorado.

As research lead for NCAR's Capacity Center for Climate and Weather Extremes Dr. Done works with stakeholders from the energy, water and insurance sectors to understand future weather and climate impacts. Dr. Done will indeed talk about snow! Snowy Range Ski Trip January (Mon-Wed) Due to a Cancellation there is now room for a woman on the trip. Two nights at Old Corral Lodge in Centennial, WY (2 beds per room) $90.00 total with a $25 deposit. Balance is due 01/04/18. Adult lift ticket: $49, Age 70 & up = FREE. (161 miles, 2 ½ hrs.) No mountain passes to cross. Contact Stew for more info. Thursday Hikers Thursday hikers continue to meet thru out the winter. Weather is a large factor as to where we go and for how long. Warm clothing in layers, yak tracks, snacks and lunch, and water are all you need to enjoy a winter hike. Meeting time is 8:45 at Meadows Shopping center on Baseline and Foothills Parkway. With that in mind, please be aware of the following policies: The NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT guarantees your spot on the trip. Notify the leader promptly if you have to cancel, even if you have only paid the deposit and full payment isn t yet due. If something prevents you from going and a replacement can be found, the replacement person can reimburse you. Make out a separate check to Flatirons Ski Club for each trip, and write the name of the trip on the memo line. If you are paying for another person with your check that person needs to be identified on the memo line, as well. Balances must be paid by the due date. If a balance isn t paid by the due date someone from the wait list will take your place. SAVE THE DATE! The Flatirons Ski Club s annual hiking trip to Moab, UT to stay at the Watermelon House and Grammas House will be May 8th, 9th and 10 th. Arrangements to be made 1-2 weeks in advance FSC will provide the name of the designated lodging so participants can organize carpools and make their own lodging reservations. Those wishing to do only a single day trip on Monday will have their own carpool and decide whether to ski Vail or BC WINTER CRESTED CRISTIANA GUESTHAUS FRIDAY JANUARY 26 - MONDAY JANUARY 29, 2018, TRIP ST $ FINAL PAYMENT $ DUE DECEMBER 7, 2017 The Winter Crested Butte ski trip is a 3-night, weekend trip with lodging at the Cristiana Guesthaus in downtown Crested Butte. This trip is full with one person on the waiting list. Downhill skiing is available at Crested Butte Mountain Resort and there are miles of cross country ski trails groomed by the City of Crested Butte (fee is charged) as well as trails near the ski area and farther afield. For a more detailed description of the trip, please see the article in the October 2017 FSC newsletter. The $ trip cost includes lodging with continental breakfast. No ski lift tickets or XC trail passes are included. For those who have signed up and already paid the deposit, final payment of $ is due on December 7 either at the meeting or by mail. The trip fee includes use of the YMCA facilities, meals, and lodging.
