1 Flatirons Ski Club December, 2017 An Outdoor Multi Sports & Social Group General Meetings are the Unitarian Universalist Church 5001 Pennsylvania AV, Boulder, FSC General Meeting is Thursday, Dec. 7 th at 7pm Location: the Unitarian Universalist Church, 5001 Pennsylvania AV, 5001 Pennsylvania AV, Boulder, Visiting the Balkans For the December 7 th program, Stew will give a presentation of his trip to the Balkans last year. He and his wife took an excellent bus tour through some of the Balkan countries (Albania, Montenegro, Croatia and Slovenia). High points were: visits to the canyons, mountains and lakes of Montenegro; the walled city of Dubrovnik, Croatia; the Plitvice waterfalls, lakes and Postojna Cave of Croatia; and the mountains and lakes of Bled, Slovenia. The last few days of the trip were spent in Venice, Italy. Holiday Party To Be Held December 9 th, 2017 This year's holiday party will be held in a spacious new venue. We are excited about a ballroom space in the lower level of the First Congregational Church on Broadway between Pine and Spruce the entrance for this event will be on the lower level at the South end of the building off Spruce Street. Hors d'oeuvres will be available on arrival at 5.30 pm followed by a traditional holiday dinner including roast turkey and ham, roasted root vegetables, mashed Yukon gold potatoes, herb stuffing, gravy and cranberry sauce. Dessert will be seasonal pies and ice cream. Soft drinks will be available. Please feel free to bring wine to share. We will again enjoy background piano music, a flute recital and later dance music, all provided by own talented club members. The charge for this better-than-ever holiday party is $10 per person. This is a wonderful event to get to know other club members - the more the merrier but we need to know numbers asap. With that in mind, please be aware of the following policies: The NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT guarantees your spot on the trip. Notify the leader promptly if you have to cancel, even if you have only paid the deposit and full payment isn t yet due. If something prevents you from going and a replacement can be found, the replacement person can reimburse you. Make out a separate check to Flatirons Ski Club for each trip, and write the name of the trip on the memo line. If you are paying for another person with your check that person needs to be identified on the memo line, as well. Balances must be paid by the due date. If a balance isn t paid by the due date someone from the wait list will take your place. Snow Ranch YMCA OF THE ROCKIES Trip #1 January 8 11, 2018 Trip #2 ruary 5 8, 2018 The accommodations are large cabins, which sleep approximately 15 people. The trip fee includes use of the YMCA facilities, meals, and lodging. Snow Ranch offers cross country skiing, snow shoeing, swimming, roller skating, arts & crafts, and many other activities. Attendees prepare breakfast and food is available to make sandwiches for lunch. Space is still available on the first Snow Ranch trip, January Waiting list for the second Snow Ranch trip, ruary 5-8, has only one person. Contact: Beth for additional information.

The carpool fees reflect the driver s true auto costs. ***Possible optional one overnight to ski Beaver Creek one day and Vail the next, or vice versa. Arrangements to be made 1-2 weeks in advance FSC will provide the name of the designated lodging so participants can organize carpools and make their own lodging reservations. Those wishing to do only a single day trip on Monday will have their own carpool and decide whether to ski Vail or BC. 4 Steamboat Springs Winter Skiing! Jan. 16, 17, 18 returning Jan. 19 th The Steamboat Springs trip is FULL but we will accept people on waitlist. The Steamboat trip features a potluck at the the first night with chili (vegetarian and meat) accompanied by salad, bread, desert or side dish from participants. The remaining dinners are on your own discretion. There are many very good restaurants in town. There is free shuttle service to the ski area by bus that stops on the highway in front of the. The serves a basic breakfast. Rooms are double occupancy with queen size beds. Some participants choose to car pool, so look over those signed-up to make such arrangements. Snow should be good, so look forward to a splendid ski time. For more information call Steamboat Ski Trip Leader, Carol Snowy Range Ski Trip January (Mon-Wed) Two nights at Old Corral in Centennial, WY (2 beds per room) $90.00 total with a $25 deposit. Balance is due 01/04/18. Adult lift ticket: $49, Age 70 & up = FREE. (161 miles, 2 ½ hrs.) No mountain passes to cross. Twenty-six members have reserved a bed. Need 2 more signups to reserve additional hotel room. Contact Stew 2018 WINTER CRESTED CRISTIANA GUESTHAUS FRIDAY JANUARY 26 - MONDAY JANUARY 29, 2018, TRIP ST $ FINAL PAYMENT $ DUE DECEMBER 7, 2017 The Winter Crested Butte ski trip is a 3-night, weekend trip with lodging at the Cristiana Guesthaus in downtown Crested Butte. This trip is full with one person on the waiting list. Downhill skiing is available at Crested Butte Resort and there are miles of cross country ski trails groomed by the City of Crested Butte (fee is charged) as well as trails near the ski area and farther afield. For a more detailed description of the trip, please see the article in the October 2017 FSC newsletter. The $ trip cost includes lodging with continental breakfast. No ski lift tickets or XC trail passes are included. For those who have signed up and already paid the deposit, final payment of $ is due on December 7 either at the meeting or by mail. Wolf Creek Ski Trip 2018 ruary (Tues-Thurs) Two nights at the Foothills (2 bedrooms with a kitchen) in South Fork,! $70.00 total with a $25.00 deposit. Balance is due 02/01/18. Adult lift tickets are $70, ages are $41, age 80 plus is Free. Location is 245 miles, 4½ hrs. Eighteen members have reserved a bed. Need 1 woman to match roommates. After that need 3 signups to reserve additional suite. There is a Pot Luck dinner on the 2 nd night! Contact Stew

5 S The FSC is going to Steamboat Springs! ruary 13, 14 & 15 th Members & guests will be staying at the Steamboat ( mountainlodge.com) for two nights. A Continental breakfast is included (dry cereal, juice, fruit, yogurt, & waffles). Hotel rooms have small refrigerators in the rooms. There is a shuttle bus to the ski area. Hotel has a nice hot tub on site. Cost: $ per person (double occupancy - 2 Q-beds). For more info contact Sandy Thursday Hikers Thursday Hikers meet each week throughout the year. Fall hiking will take us up to mountain trails and cooler weather. Which trail we do is decided at 8:45a at Meadows Shopping Center taking into account weather and trail conditions. We'll continue to go high as long as weather permits, so come prepared. Bring food for lunch, snacks, water and clothing for the changing weather conditions. Later we'll do trails closer to town. We look forward to seeing new and old friends as we get to enjoy our mountains without the tourists! If there is rain or snow, call one of us to see if we are hiking that day. Connie or Sue.
