2 Welcome to the latest NWRA newsletter Dear Members and Residents, Canal bed and revetment wall problems Engineering investigations have confirmed that the cause of some revetment walls being undermined is due to slumping of the canal beds. Surveys have shown that over 40% of canal fronting properties are undermined to some extent. Council considered the Engineering reports and independent legal advice at its meeting on 23rd May. Full details including the Engineering reports, Council decision, drawings showing the problems and other information are available to members on our website under the Canal & Lock section. The speed limit in the canal is 4 knots (walking speed) and no wash. This is designed to avoid any damage to revetment walls and other property. Your co-operation in observing the speed limit is appreciated. The Water Police have had discussions with those few boat owners that have exceeded the speed limit and created large damaging wash. The form to report problems to the Water Police is available on our web site. Christmas boat parade Please mark Friday 20th December on your calendar for our 16 th annual Boat Parade. Last year a lot of people put a big effort into decorating their boats and homes. It was a fantastic sight watching the well lit boats follow the Coast Guard, which had its fire hose working. There were many parties in homes and parks. Update on the Draft Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme The Association lodged a submission about concerns that could impact Noosa Waters residents following the release of the draft Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme which was placed on public display during late Following the de-amalgamation decision the Sunshine Coast Council has resolved not to proceed with that part of the draft scheme that relates to the new Noosa Council area. The Noosa part of the draft planning scheme and the related submissions will be given to the Transfer Manager to present to the new Noosa Council for its consideration once that council is formed on 1st January Therefore, Sunshine Coast Council will not consider any submission or part of a submission that relates to a specific property in the former Noosa local government area or a specific provision of the draft planning scheme that relates to the Noosa area. Villa Noosa Hotel s application to trade to 5am each day The State Governments moratorium on the Villa Noosa Hotel s application and other similar applications is still in place. The Association and some members lodged submissions to the State Government regarding reform proposals for the regulation of liquor and gaming. It is expected that the expert panel, who are considering the submissions, will lodge a report with the Attorney General by the end of the year. However, the State Government may separately consider the issue of late night trading before then. Why become a member? One of the many benefits of belonging to the Association, apart from the social side, is being kept informed on issues that can impact you personally, your amenity and life style. Updates are sent to members by . Any Noosa Waters property owners and long term tenants can join the Association for only $15 p.a. You can also join Neighbourhood Watch for $5 p.a. You can join on line on our website or by completing the enclosed form and sending a cheque to NWRA P. O. Box 197 NOOSAVILLE, QLD Gary Trevithick President Noosa voted YES to de-amalgamation in March. Sunshine Coast Council Mayor Mark Jamison described the result as democracy in action Issue 67 Winter Edition

3 Australia Day celebrations Secretary s Report The Water Police kindly responded to reports of speeding in the canal and now have a key for the lock to do regular patrols. Many boats are still exceeding the 4 knot/no WASH limit. If you are not sure what your speed is, turn around and check your wash, it should be negligible. A survey of membership for the previous financial year showed we had a total of 461 households as members, with 269 being waterfront and 192 being dry. The Annual General Meeting will be held in the last week of September with the exact date to be advised. Kay Passenger Secretary NWRA president Gary Trevithick received special recognition on Australia Day for his tireless efforts on behalf of Noosa Waters residents and the Noosa community. Noosa Waters residents gathered for lunch after the morning ceremonies on Australia Day. Noosa Waters Landscaping Report Firstly I would like to congratulate the Sunshine Coast Council for being so responsive to requests made to them by Noosa Waters and for being proactive at the same time. You will notice our fountain pump is now performing magnificently and the Council have heeded our request to keep the bushes trimmed to alleviate blocking the outlet pipe. The bonus is that they also mulched the area around the fountain and numerous other areas of the estate as well. I have noticed that council have also heeded our request to trim the pandanus at Seagull Park which I thought may be contentious, but they have done a wonderful job in trimming there. Once again thank you to all the silent volunteers that keep their own areas in such beautiful condition. Bluefin Court is an example of a very dedicated group of residents, and I congratulate them on their efforts. Skipper Place with the small waterfront park is kept in a most immaculate condition by the wonderful work of Elaine Page. Kind regards, John Langdon, Noosa Waters Landscaping Issue 67 Winter Edition

4 Women and Wool Recently formed by Helen Lawson, this group of ladies meets each Monday at the Croquet Club from 2-5 pm to knit for charity and are just about to send a parcel to The Tibetan Children s Villages. Their aim is to provide warm items for those who are in need, while enjoying each other s company and the journey as they do it. New members are most welcome and if you are new to knitting or crochet, they will show you how. Many members are knitting for the first time. Pop in any Monday and find out more. Sports and Social Group News Plan to get out your glad rags and dress up to the hilt for our major event - the Masquerade Madness Ball on Saturday, 14th September 2013 at the Noosa Convention and Exhibition Centre on Hilton Terrace, Tewantin, We will be treated to a two course meal, selected wine at a special rate and some fabulous live music. This year s musicians are a contemporary duo, Cool 2 Cool, with a wealth of experience ranging from lead vocalist-lead guitar duties in touring bands through to studio session work and all points in between. Their repertoire promises classic hits, larger than life backing and a not-to-be-missed dynamic evening. Please feel free to take the masked theme as far as you like, come as Spiderman, Batman, the Lone Ranger or any other masked man or woman that comes to mind or simply don a Venetian style mask with your best attire and make your entrance. We ll have lots of prizes for best dressed in several categories. We have kept costs down as far as possible without compromising our enjoyment. Last year s event was a sell out so book your table/ tickets early to avoid being disappointed. Our social start to the year was the 4th Birthday Bash on Friday 22nd March at the Croquet Club where a big turnout ensured the evening was a great success. 5 We had a fabulous evening watching the Ten Tenors Well over 100 people attended and we were pleased to see quite a few newcomers as well as many more familiar faces. The new kitchen at the croquet club made catering easier than ever. Brian Smalley arranged a fund raising raffle, the proceeds of which will help keep ticket costs for the ball down to a level similar to last year. People certainly seemed to have had a great night. We followed up the birthday party with a trip to Caloundra in May for opera enthusiasts which was organised single-handedly by committee member Hilary Andrew. The group saw the Ten Tenors in sparkling form, enjoyed dinner, drinks and coach transport to and from Noosa Waters. Well done Hilary for a supreme effort and a fabulous evening. Also organised at the end of April was a free croquet tryout for Noosa Waters residents at the Croquet Club. More could have attended but the ones that did had a fantastic time and all agreed they would certainly be happy to play some more games. The croquet club members went to town, laying on a beautiful afternoon tea, followed by BYO drinks. Not a bad way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon. Many thanks for the efforts of club secretary, Colin Hindson, who is keen to attract some new members. Christmas Crackers is on Sunday 21st July at the Croquet Club from 1pm. Everyone is to bring their own Christmas lunch and BYO drinks. There will be a door charge of $10 per person for members and $15 per person for nonmembers. No charge for children. More details on the social calendar on the back page. Deirdre Williams Sports and Social Committee Chair Meet Fran who has been in the hair and beauty industry for over 25 years. Fran trained in Melbourne and worked around the CBD area. Fran has worked in and managed salons on the Sunshine Coast since Fran and Sam have just moved from their rather small but extremely busy salon at 4/203 Gympie Terrace. You can t miss their logo on page seven. Issue 67 Winter Edition

6 Lorraine Kenway, the proprietor of Noosa s Classy Lady has been running her boutique just around the corner from Thomas Street in Gympie Terrace for over sixteen years. Her shop is packed with clothing and shoes for all occasions. Lorraine has built up one of the most successful clothing businesses in the area. Specializing in resort wear for the more mature woman her ranges never fail to excite her clientele no matter what the season. If you haven t been in lately you are missing a great shopping experience. Feature Property 44 The Anchorage Noosa Waters has now been completed. The long, wide water views command your attention from all major rooms. The home is narrow to the street and fans out to a full 28 metres to the canal. There are 4 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, office, a serious cinema, sauna and large garage. Elaine & Max of Lifetime Constructions have created a superb home in this wonderful location.
