1 WBC BRANCH SURF RESCUE CHAMPIONSHIPS CHAMPION LIFESAVER EVENTS U14, U15, U17, U19, SENIOR & MASTERS (MALE & FEMALE) BUNDABERG SLSC 14 th & 15 th JANUARY 2017 CLUB ENTRIES ONLY Entries are invited from the Clubs for the below mentioned events, nomination is via Qld Carnival Manager. Nomination closes at 10 pm on Sunday, 8 January Nomination fees will be $16.50 (inc. GST) per person. An invoice will be sent to Clubs with the full nomination fees accrued by each Club after the Championships have been conducted. NOMINATIONS MUST BE ENTERED VIA QUEENSLAND CARNIVAL MANAGER Nominations: Any proficient lifesaver, who is a financial member of a Surf Life Saving Club in the Wide Bay Capricorn Branch may nominate for a Branch Champion Lifesaver event, provided they have the following pre-requisites: Under 14 - current and proficient Surf Rescue Certificate Under 15* - current and proficient Surf Rescue Certificate or Bronze Medallion Under 17 - current and proficient Bronze Medallion Under 19 - current and proficient Bronze Medallion Open/Senior - current and proficient Bronze Medallion 30 to 39yrs - current and proficient Bronze Medallion 40+ Years - current and proficient Bronze Medallion *Under 13 who reached the age of 13 by 8 January 2017, and gained their Surf Rescue Certificate may compete in Under 15. A competitor will ONLY be permitted to compete in one age group at these Championships. NOTES: To be eligible to compete, all members must be registered and have passed a Proficiency Test (by 31 December 2016) or New Award (Surf Rescue Certificate or Bronze Medallion as above) by the closing date (8 January 2017). Eligibility is otherwise as defined in the SLSA Surf Sports Manual, 35 th Edition WBC Branch Surf Rescue Championships 1
2 Events: Entry Fee U14 Champion Lifesaver (Male & Female) $16.50 each U15 Champion Lifesaver (Male & Female) $16.50 each U17 Champion Lifesaver (Male & Female) $16.50 each U19 Champion Lifesaver (Male & Female) $16.50 each Open Champion Lifesaver (Male & Female) $16.50 each 30 to 39yrs Champion Lifesaver (Male & Female) $16.50 each 40+ Years Champion Lifesaver (Male & Female) $16.50 each LATE entries will incur a penalty of a late entry fee of $33.00 (inc. GST) plus $16.50 per event. Competitors will meet with the referee at the Bundaberg SLSC Clubhouse at 0800 hours (8.00am) on Saturday 14 January THE COMPETITION: Shall commence at 0830 hours (8.30am) after the briefing at or near to the clubhouse, and will comprise the following events and rules: (a) Points shall be allotted for the following disciplines in ALL age categories: Resuscitation Test Practical Live Patient & Manikin Assessments Written Theory Question Paper on Resuscitation & General Life Saving Surf Race Board Race Rescue Tube Race Beach Sprint (b) Each section will be conducted in accordance with: The SLSA Training Manual, Public Safety and Aquatic Rescue, 34 th edition The SLSA Surf Sports Manual, 35 th edition And any subsequent Bulletins/Circulars issued by SLSA and/or SLSQ. (c) The questions for the Theory Paper will ONLY be derived from the current SLSA Public Safety and Aquatic Rescue Training Manual (34 th edition) relevant to the minimum qualifications required for the event. (d) The points allocation for each event will be as per the SLSA Surf Sports Manual 35 th Edition (e) Competitors shall only compete in the age group in which they are eligible and SHALL NOT be able to compete in any other age group for the Champion Lifesaver Event. NOTE: Entries from the Clubs close with the Branch via Carnival Manager at 10pm on Sunday, 8 January WBC Branch Surf Rescue Championships 2
3 COMPETITORS CONDITIONS 11.1 High Vis Vest SLSQ High Visibility Clothing Policy, No , will be implemented requiring ALL COMPETITORS in ocean or open water-based surf lifesaving events held in Queensland to wear a high visibility lycra/rash top/singlet. NOMINATION FORM CHAMPION LIFESAVER COMPETITION U14, U15, U17, U19, SENIOR & MASTERS (MALE & FEMALE) VENUE: - Bundaberg SLSC DATE: - 14 January 2017 TIME: Hours (8.30am) (Report time 0800 Hours/8.00am) ENTRY FEE: - $16.50 each (inc. GST) per person ENTRIES CLOSE: - via Qld Carnival Manager by 10 pm on Sunday, 8 January 2017 Any proficient surf lifesaver from the eight (8) clubs throughout the Branch may nominate, provided they hold the pre-requisite awards for their relevant age group. EVENTS: A) THE COMPETITION EVENTS (i) Surf Race (distance as per Iron Person Swim) (ii) Board Race (Malibu) (distance as per Iron Person Board) (iii) Beach Sprint (70 metres U14 & Masters) (90 metres U15, U17, U19, Senior) (iv) Rescue Tube Race (distance as per Iron Person Swim) B) QUESTIONNAIRE Resuscitation, First Aid, Patrols, Surf Awareness, General Life Saving, etc WBC Branch Surf Rescue Championships 3
4 C) PRACTICAL RESUSCITATION (i) (ii) Demonstrate on live patient: Demonstrate on Manikin: INDIVIDUAL GEAR TO BE SUPPLIED: (by the competitor) Assessment of Patient Lateral Position CPR Procedures (ALL Ages) 1 SLS Malibu Board 1 Rescue Tube 1 Pair Swim Fins/Flippers optional 1 Adult Size Resuscitation Manikin ALL per SLSA Standards and Specifications as per the SLSA Surf Sports Manual 35 th Edition and/or any subsequent Bulletins/Circulars Note: 1. If a Rescue Board is used in competition it is required only to meet the minimum specification for Malibu racing boards 2. Any manikin provided by the competitor shall not be marked in any way to gain advantage in competition 3. The swim fins/flippers shall comply with the following dimensions: a. Maximum 65cm overall length including shoe or ankle strap (ankle strap extended) b. Maximum 30cm width at the widest point of the blade c. Swim fins are to be measured with the shoe or ankle strap extended but not stretched. The swim fins will not be permitted to be used if they do not conform to specifications or if they are considered a safety hazard 4. ALL competitors are expected to supply their own Manikins and Face Masks PRIZES: Medallions will be presented for 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd in each age category. STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS: The 2016 Queensland Surf Rescue Championships are also conducted at the Dicky Beach on the weekend 24/25/26 February The winner (1 st place) in each Champion Lifesaver age category of the Branch Championships will automatically qualify to compete in the Queensland Surf Rescue Championships, with the 2 nd and 3 rd placegetters being nominated as Reserves to go into a draw for possible selection to compete as well. The Branch Administrator will liaise with all Clubs regarding the State nominations WBC Branch Surf Rescue Championships 4

Each competitor is to start this section. Failure to do so will result in DISQUALIFICATION from the Champion Lifesaver event. A competitor that starts, but does not complete the event, or fails to complete the event within the specified time limit will receive zero (0) points for the Surf Race event. 2. The first competitor to complete the course will be declared the winner. 3. The course will be as per the Iron Person swim course SLSA Surf Sports Manual, 35 th Edition WBC Branch Surf Rescue Championships 5
6 4. A time limit MAY be set by the Referee, and if this is done, each competitor will be advised prior to the event. 5. Points allocation to be as follows: Position Points First - 10 Second - 9 Third - 8 Fourth - 7 Fifth - 6 Sixth - 5 Seventh - 4 Eighth - 3 Ninth - 2 Tenth - 1 DQ or DNF - 0 SECTION 2 - BOARD RACE 1. Each competitor is to start this section. Failure to do so will result in DISQUALIFICATION from the Champion Lifesaver event. A competitor that starts but does not complete the event, or fails to complete the event within the specified time limit will receive zero (0) points for the Board Race event. 2. The course shall be as per the Iron Person board course SLSA Surf Sports Manual, 35 th Edition. 3. Each competitor shall provide a SLSA Malibu Board built to the Association's specifications. 4. Points allocation to be as follows: Position Points First - 10 Second - 9 Third - 8 Fourth - 7 Fifth - 6 Sixth - 5 Seventh - 4 Eighth - 3 Ninth - 2 Tenth - 1 DQ or DNF WBC Branch Surf Rescue Championships 6
7 SECTION 3 - BEACH SPRINT 1. Each competitor is to start this section. Failure to do so will result in DISQUALIFICATION from the Champion Lifesaver event. A competitor that starts but does not complete the event, will receive zero (0) points for the Beach Sprint event. 2. The first competitor to cross the "finish" line would be declared the winner. 3. The course to be as per the Beach Sprint event SLSA Surf Sports Manual, 35 th Edition. 4. Points allocation to be as follows: Position Points First - 10 Second - 9 Third - 8 Fourth - 7 Fifth - 6 Sixth - 5 Seventh - 4 Eighth - 3 Ninth - 2 Tenth - 1 DQ or DNF - 0 SECTION 4 - RESCUE TUBE RACE 1. Each competitor is to start this section. Failure to do so will result in DISQUALIFICATION from the Champion Lifesaver event. A competitor that starts but does not complete the event, or fails to complete the event within the specified time limit will receive zero (0) points for the Rescue Tube Race event. 2. The first competitor to touch his/her buoy distinctly above the water with one hand, and signal his/her arrival by raising his/her other arm in a vertical position, would be declared the winner. Flippers may be utilized in this event. They may be fitted at the waters edge or after entering the water. However, they may not be fitted until the start of the event is signalled. Equipment Each competitor will provide their own approved rescue tube and swim fins/flippers, etc. (swim fins optional) to meet SLSA specifications. Swim fins/flippers (optional) must be made completely of rubber or silicone, excluding the fastening strap, and must no contain inserts, etc. The fins will be to the following dimensions:- Maximum width at the widest point of the blade 30cm. Maximum overall length including shoe s or ankle strap (ankle strap extended) 65cm WBC Branch Surf Rescue Championships 7
8 3. The course distance is to be as per the Iron Person swim course and the event conduct as per the Rescue Tube Race event SLSA Surf Sports Manual, 35 th Edition. 4. Points allocation to be as follows: Position Points First - 10 Second - 9 Third - 8 Fourth - 7 Fifth - 6 Sixth - 5 Seventh - 4 Eighth - 3 Ninth - 2 Tenth - 1 DQ or DNF - 0 SECTION 5 - THEORY QUESTIONNAIRE 1. This theory paper will consist of forty (40) questions on resuscitation, general Surf Lifesaving, First Aid, etc. Questions will be derived from The SLSA Training Manual, Public Safety and Aquatic Rescue, 34 th Edition 2. Each competitor will be required to complete the paper within the thirty (30) minutes allocated. 3. Each question answered correctly will score one (1) point. The maximum points allocated for each competitor in this event is 40 points. SECTION 6 - PRACTICAL RESUSCITATION Each competitor will be involved in this section which will comprise two sub-sections: (a) Live Patient Assessment including lateral position. 20 points (b) Assessment of CPR on a manikin ALL Ages 20 points A maximum of twenty (20) points will be allotted to each section with deductions as follows: Major Faults - 4 point deduction for each Major Fault Minor Faults point deduction for each Minor Fault Timing deductions - (manikin) 4, 3, 2, 1 or nil points deductions (Minimum Score a competitor can achieve for each Resuscitation Section is zero (0) points out of a total of twenty (20) points) WBC Branch Surf Rescue Championships 8
9 Please Note: The patient will be considered to be an ADULT for all sections and age groups One Assessor will give all competitors commands/instructions as to when to begin each step, etc. No watches are to be worn by competitors during this section. NOTE: It should be emphasised to all competitors prior to the commencement of the competition, that in the event of a tied score at the completion of the competition, the winner will be decided by a count back system in this order: 1) Practical Resuscitation Section A (Live Patient Assessment) 2) Practical Resuscitation Section B (Manikin Assessment) 3) General Theory Paper 4) Surf Race 5) Rescue Tube Race 6) Board Race 7) Beach Sprint WBC Branch Surf Rescue Championships 9
