2 WEEKLY NOTICES AND REMINDERS Kia ora Koutou This school year is well underway and we have 9 classes of happy faces enjoying their new spaces and new teachers. In a few short weeks, alongside their normal class programmes, we have already had seen students participating in swimming sports, Surf n Turf (year 3 and 4 camp), a Year 0-2 beach trip, rippa rugby, kapahaka, cluster swimming, a big breakfast and an armistice remembrance education at Gilmore Lake. A huge congratulations to those students who went onto the cluster swimming sports, and further congratulations to those that have qualified to compete in the Katikati area swimming. A huge thank you to all our parents who have helped out in those events and programmes over the last couple of weeks. Next week we have our Year 5 s and 6's heading off to camp, taking with them a lot of parent help. Good luck, have fun and enjoy the awesome activities and learning that will be taking place. As you may be aware, at the very end of last year, Robbie McGougan resigned his teaching position to relocate and teach in the Taihape area. We carried out the process to replace him over the summer break. We are very happy to let you know that Jo Derham (currently teaching at St Joseph's) will be taking over from Tammy Stevens in room 4 (Tammy is filling in until Jo can start). We will have Jo starting the beginning of term 2. We hope to share a blurb introducing Jo with you in the newsletter in a couple of weeks. A huge thank you to everyone that helped out with our big breakfast and those who came in mufti and supported by buying breakfast. We well and truly paid for our second-hand fridge, and contributed over $300 to The Ocean Project. We are also very excited about the road safety development that will be happening around our school to help keep all pedestrians safe. This includes a Kea crossing with the 'lollipops' that swing out onto the road. In the meantime, please continue to take care at the pickup points. Do not stop / double park to pick up children in the middle of the road. Be patient until a park becomes available. Nga mihi nui Zac CAMPS YEAR 5/6 LAKE KARAPIRO CAMP Camp is next week, march 5th to March 9th. Meet at School on Monday at 8.30am. YEAR 3/4 SURF n TURF A big thanks to all whanau for your time and support in our Surf n Turf camp. Best Start Programme for New Entrants If your New Entrant child has enrolled this term, or will be enrolling this term, please contact Briar about securing your place in our awesome workshops. PUPIL ABSENCE FROM SCHOOL So there are no doubts as to a child's whereabouts, parents are asked to inform the school whenever their child is going to be absent. If the child is away for several days it is only necessary to let the school know on the first day of absence. It is still appropriate to send a note of explanation or make contact with the teacher after a lengthy absence. On the first day of absence the school can be notified in either of the following ways: 1) sending a text to ) by telephoning ) by sending a note to the child's teacher via another child. Sharon or another staff member will take the message and note it on a form that is circulated to all classes by 9.30am each day.
