1 July 2018 The Point Hi and welcome to the July 2018 edition of the Point Well what a month of celebration and change May and June have been. Firstly, it was a pleasure to attend the Junior prize giving earlier in May. It is great to see the enthusiasm and success of the clubs juniors, well done to all the winners. I want to also acknowledge Janet Hepi for her continued support of the Jasmine Hepi Scholarship which she started way back in 1976 congratulations to Axel Bostock for being this years recipient. This was followed up a week later by the AGM, the Betty Fyers Tournament, and the Senior prize giving. As reported at the AGM the club continues to be in a very strong financial position having sufficient funds to meet more than 18 months of the club s current expenditure (last year I reported 14 months), so from this perspective I am pleased to say that the club remains in a solid financial position. Membership numbers had an increase for senior membership which now stands at 88 members (up from 78), a small decrease for junior with stands at 121 (down from 130). The AGM as usual brings some change to the club and this year we see the new committee as: President Michelle Braid Vice President/Past President Michael Petersen Treasurer David Gate Men s Club Captain/ Senior Interclub Controller Aaron Trembath Ladies Club Captain Gill Summers Committee Members o Laura Beattie (also acting as Mid Week Ladies Convener) o Kris Bostock o Amanda Pritchard (also acting as Junior Co-Convener) o Michelle Johnson (also acting as Junior Co-Convener) Hannah also will be stepping down as club secretary but has agreed to stay on until we find and transition a replacement. So congratulations to Michelle Braid on being elected to President and welcome to Michelle Johnson on to the committee. So as this will be my last newsletter as the outgoing President, I would like to thank the support of the committee and the club over the 3 years as President. Also congratulations to all of the winners at the senior prize giving. Lastly anyone who has visited the club lately would also have noticed a few changes, with the most visible being the hedge behind courts 3 & 4. While I have not been since the AGM where is was still yet to be 1

completed, it has had a severe trim and, while it is looking patchy and a bit wooden, it will soon shoot away with new growth and should be much easier for us to manage.

Kind Regards Aaron Trembath & Gillian Summers MIDWEEK LADIES Tuesday Open 2 (midweek ladies lead-in) won their grade and went to tennis Auckland awards night. Winter Outdoor Interclub Round 1 of the Winter Outdoor Interclub has finished up with most teams getting the majority of their games played and performing really well on court. We have a 3 week break for the school holidays then will resume with Round 2 on Tuesday, 31st July. Keep up those fantastic skills over the break ladies and finish the season on a high! 4

Soup Day & Prize Giving We held our annual Soup Day on Wednesday 4th July with beautifully clear sunny skies and 3 courts of tennis which was perfect for a winter s day.

5 Soup Day & Prize Giving We held our annual Soup Day on Wednesday 4th July with beautifully clear sunny skies and 3 courts of tennis which was perfect for a winter s day. Thank you to the committee for cooking some warm yummy soups and sweets for our lunch. Kind regards Laura Beattie Midweek Ladies Convener JUNIORS Hello Junior Families, I hope that you are all managing to stay warm and dry... FIRSTLY... I am so pleased to tell you that Michelle Johnson has joined me to be involved in looking after everything to do with Sunnyhills Junior Tennis!!! Many of you will know Michelle as she has been at the club for many years with her son Ryan playing in Juniors, also Michelle is an extremely valuable senior player at Sunnyhills. I am very grateful that together we are going to be looking after our Junior Tennis for the coming season. It s pleasing that so many of our Juniors are continuing their tennis over winter, training with the club and some players taking part in the Scarbro Satellite tennis tournaments on Sundays. TERM 3 TRAINING Term 3 will continue with the full Kiwi Tennis group training for Juniors as per current. Red/Orange/Green training on Saturday morning Orange group has a Thursday afternoon option Bronze Group trainings offered on a Monday & Wednesday afternoon 5

Gabriel will be on court with one of our own Sunnyhills Junior Assistants.
